Because I’m not already in enough PbPs, I decided to DM another game. Why? Why not?
Anyways, Out of the Abyss is an official adventure published by WotC about . . .well, the denizens of the Abyss. It's also much more story-based and exploration based than say PotA, so make sure you have a good backstory. I don’t want to say too much more, but I will say that almost the entire adventure takes place in the Underdark, so keep that in mind when making characters. Speaking of which . . .
Character Creation details:
Characters start at level 1. Point Buy ability scores, starting equipment or gold, and you can use anything from the PH, XtgE, VgtM, MToF or SCAG (sorry, no UA or Ravnica). Blood hunter is allowed, but no gunslinger. No homebrew allowed, as I would prefer to get more experience DMing before having to deal with weird custom things. Any alignments are allowed, just please be reasonable if you choose an evil alignment. No one wants to deal with that one chaotic evil party member who fireballs the entire party (including himself). Drow and monstrous races are allowed, and can offer some great synergy with the setting. Keep in mind that you won't have to worry about Sunlight Sensitivity. I will use XP leveling..
You can post your character or PM me something like this:

I've been playing D&D in one from another since I was 12. I'm now long removed from being 12. ;) I have been mostly a DM for the past eleven years, Pathfinder when it first came out, but switched to 5e almost exactly a year ago and haven't looked back. I cannot say enough good things about this version of D&D. I've got the PHB, DMG, MM, XGtE, and MToF hardcover, and they are my favorite books to read.
I've been both a DM and a player in PbP games for about the past ten years, so I appreciate the work it takes to DM one, and I very much appreciate how fun it can be to be a player in one.
My availability to post is essentially 8 AM to 4:30 PM (Daylight Saving Time) Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 8 AM to Noon on Tuesday and Thursday. Weekends are spottier but I can usually find an hour or two on Saturday and Sunday to check in should I need to. Essentially, I can and would eagerly agree to posting at least once a day if that were required. :) Background is on the character sheet, but if you want a separate sheet for that, let me know, I wrote it on a Google Doc.
Background - While the Ghostwise Halflings are known to live in more eastern forests around the Shaar Desolation, in ages past outcasts and nomads traveled Faerun and a small group eventually settled in Chult. Hundreds of years later and the Ghostwise of Chult are a small but fierce tribe surviving against the various dangers known to roam those jungles.
Kisii is one of these Ghostwise. Growing up, she learned to hunt the game that nourishes the tribe, to navigate the labyrinth Ubtao has given the tribe leave to wander, and to face the many threats to their survival. Not the least of these are the Yuan-ti who still roam the jungles. Like the rest of her tribe, she trained to fight these aberrations. However, no amount of training could prepare her to face invaders from the world below. Drow raiders surfacing in Chult to find rare specimens for exotic menageries or for bloodsports. Kisii's hunting party ran afoul of such a raiding party and despite their best efforts were soundly defeated.
Kisii awoke, tied to a large stake. When her captors attempted to move her, she lashed out, refusing to give in. More than one of the raiders found it amusing when she bit deeply into a drow elf's leg, spitting the gob of flesh at him before he knocked her back into unconsciousness. She woke again completely hogtied and carried between two more docile captives. The limping raider eyes her with murderous intent, but the raid leader felt she would be worth coin in the fighting pits deep in the underdark...

In Kerook's time sailing aboard the Pinner, he had much time to meditate. He liked to find a quiet spot on the ship and think about the potential of his fists. He would open his wings and flit about amongst the sails. Only about a year ago, the Pinner's captain ran her upon some shallow rocks and did her in. The Pinner still lies along the Sword Coast. Kerook took his knowledge of cartography from his time sailing and started making maps for sail. He would make maps of all the areas of Faerun that he knew of (mostly along the Sword Coast). He was recently tipped off to the opportunity to sell maps to the denizens of the Underdark, where many of them only dreamed of visiting the Sword Coast. Kerook took up the opportunity and made his way underground. It was unfamiliar territory for an Aarakocra like himself. His eyesight was keen up on the surface, but it was always dark down here. There weren't many sailors here, but there were enough taverns to make him feel at home. That is until one night he was out drinking by himself and was confronted by some drow. He did not understand what they were saying, but they tied him up and threw him in a cage.

Background: Mialee is a former Drow Preistess of Lolth from a noble family. She lost her faith in Lolth (and consequently her power) when her family was murdered by a rival family in a power grab. As the sole survivor, she is the only one that can redeem her family and reclaim what is rightfully hers. However, being a former noble priestess, it didn’t take long for her to become captured by someone else who would like to see her family wiped from the histories. The are paying for her to be transported back to the Drow capital of Menzoberranzan to be turned over to her rivals for execution. Out of desperation, Mialee made a pact with an unknown celestial being to reclaim a portion of her power. While she is Drow and evil by nature, desperate times call for desperate measures. She will have to play ball with this “good” being, maintaining its “good” ideology in order to maintain the conduit to its power.

An unwanted son of a minor noble family, Samael’s upbringing was not the best. Stories told of his birth vary, but they all contain the same details. His father left on a business trip and when he returned he was accompanied by a pregnant elf, much to the chagrin of his wife. After the baby was born she left and was never heard from again. The young boy grew up, spurned by his father’s wife and her daughters. After she gave birth to a son of her own, Samael’s noble tutoring ceased and he was left to his own whims. Samael continued to learn wherever he could, most often from the commoners and guards that served his family. The commoners taught him how to get by on his own and the guards kept his sword skills sharp.
As he got older he volunteered to join his father’s caravans and from his journeys to the nearby Dwarvish and Elvish settlements he was able to learn their languages. With a few trips leading the caravan became his job. Then one day what was supposed to be a simple trade mission with a nearby dwarven clan, turned disastrous. As the caravan trudged through the mountains, a drow party ambushed and quickly dominated the caravan. Wagons loaded with food and now slaves, Samael included, made their way into the underdark.
Experience: 4 years playing D&D and 2 as a DM. Was introduced with 2nd edition by a friend, but we still mainly play 5th. Not really any experience with pbp.

Background: Beech is the third generation of durids born from the Mother Tree in the Bunsen Kingdom. He had spent his entire childhood and most of his teenage life wondering what laid beyond the mother tree's roots. He went to his elders, but they told him that life away from the mother tree is not a life at all. His parents told him the same thing, and so did some of his friends. The outside world is a bad place, why would he want to leave? Then, the outside world came in. A soldier, didn't bother to tell Beech his name, or where he came from, limped into the Bunsen Kingdom in search for herbs for medicine. Beech found him, offering to heal his wounds without a second thought. And that's when he saw it. Gold. An entire bag filled with glisening pieces of metal. Beech wanted to know where he could get more of it and sure enough, it wasn't in his homeland. He didn't bother telling anyone, he knew that they would disagree, all Beech knew was that he wanted gold. And he knew how to get it. For three years Beech traveled the land, offering his abilities to those who needed it for some coin. He didn't use any of the money, just stuck it in some cave, contempt with just having it. Then one day, a Drow woman approached him, bleeding. She told him that her family had been robbed and wanted her son healed. She said he was with his father, just down the road. Beech asked if he could heal her first, but she insisted on her child. Down the road, Beexh came across a drow man craddling his child close to his chest. He gave the child to Beech, and when he did, and arrow went in Beech's shoulder. He realized what he was holding was a doll, dropped it, and before he could do anything else, collapsed.
Before he completely blacked out, he heard the Drow couple, " Make sure this one stays healthy, the tree folk are useful. Clean out his cave too."

Annette was born on a self-sustaining homestead at the very edge of civilization. Far away from governing authorities and the ills of civilization: her large family and many others lead a peaceful co-existence with each other and with nature. From a young age, Annette and her father would go hunting together in the sprawling wilderness to provide for the family and to trade with their neighbors. Unfortunately, life on the homestead isn't all charm. Disease strikes hard and fast and as she approached her teen years, her father passed from a high fever. The eldest of 5 children, Annette took to the woods to provide for the family the way her father did, hunting. As the years passed, her skill with a crossbow could not be beat, she gained a renown among the homesteaders as a crack marksman.
By her 18th birthday, civilization crept into the valley slowly but surely. Annette was scouted by a charlatan, an old man who promised her adventure in far-flung cities and countries. Naive and eager to see the world, Annette jumped at the opportunity. With her new "partner," she performed at villages and small towns as an exhibition shooter, with her crossbow skills she made a pretty penny for the old man. That's when things went from bad to worse. While performing in a dwarf mining town a band of ruthless slavers passed overwhelmed the town's scarce defenses, and dragged off as many able-bodied men and women as they could. Among them was Annette, bound in chains and taken to the Underdark with little hope of seeing the sun ever again. Annette has been thrown out of the frying pan and into the fire; a young girl with no knowledge of life outside of the homestead, she has scarce few skills to rely on but her hunting know-how, simple country charms, and a knack for crossbows.

Rahkinir spent most of his life studying different cultures, when he was 30 he traveled to the land of Chult where he was captured and tortured by Yuan Ti, but instead of hating his captors he became obsessed with their culture and how they brought balance to life through their own unorthodox measures. A couple of years passed and was able to convince them to let him go through the ritual that would either kill him or change him into a superior being. He is 49 right now, and is not very strong or agile but his wits and knowledge help him compensate that while adventuring.
Experience playing D&D and PbP - I've been playing for almost a year, mainly as a DM (in a session through roll20 and several pbp, both in spanish and english) but for whatever reason all the games I attempt to play as a player won't last long.
Availability and Time Zone - I can post with no problem throughout the day, on my breaks and lunch at work I usually check my campaigns so no problem with that. Timezone: CST
Background Elber can trace his ancestry all the way back to the early years of Hartsvale, but he was determined to see more of the world than his forefathers had. He joined a mercenary company set to journey far west and south to earn glory and everything else. Before he could lay eyes on the Great Western Sea, his company found themselves fatally ambushed by a Drow party which had ventured to the surface for fresh slaves.

I'd love to join, but only have the basic rules. would there be content sharing? I'm making a character now if you don't, but want to keep my options open.
If there is content sharing:
Name: Couteau noir (Its French, Just call him Count Noir. This is how I make names. Don't judge me.)
Backstory: Count Noir has always had magical powers. He doesn't know how, or why, but he has. He always had a knack of getting himself in trouble, too. His birth was illegal, so even as a baby, he was a criminal. He has been sneaking around his whole life, and when he was old enough to try and leave, he was caught by a bunch of spiders. He tried to cast a simple Mage Hand to distract them, but somehow created a firebolt to destroy a bunch of buildings. (tents, maybe? I have no idea what's in the underdark) He was arrested by the patrol, and longs to get out.
Experience: I've played some campaigns, But I don't know anything about Out of the Abyss.
Availability: Generally all week. I sometimes sleep for longer than I should, though, so my timezone is.... Eastern standard.

Background: Abraxas Onassis is a half-elf wizard born and raised by Avowed parents at Candlekeep. He was extremely happy there and would have followed after his parents, becoming a Sage. However, one day his father appeared covered with dust from the oldest catacombs under Candlekeep and held a large tome, covered with tiny skulls and the face of a balor. His father wanted the book kept a secret, but Abraxas saw it, watched as the book withered plants and warped his father’s mind. A ten-day later, under the influence of the Book of Vile Darkness, his father slaughtered Abraxas’s family and himself. Only Abraxas and his twin sister survived. The book disappeared. Abraxas’s obsession with magic generally and powerful magic texts specifically began. He writes his sister as he travels, and she writes back asking him to return to Candlekeep. Instead, he works to fund his research and searches for enough magical knowledge to find and destroy the book that killed his family.
While searching the libraries of Waterdeep, Abraxas heard rumors of rare book dealers in Skullport. Eventually, he was introduced to members of Xanathar’s Guild who introduced him to three Drow who promised to take him there. Easily distracted by the promise of information, he only realized how foolish he had been as the Drow clubbed him into submission.

I am one with the Force. The Force is with me.
I'd love to join, but only have the basic rules. would there be content sharing? I'm making a character now if you don't, but want to keep my options open.
If there is content sharing:
Name: Couteau noir (Its French, Just call him Count Noir. This is how I make names. Don't judge me.)
Race/Class: Drow Sorcerer (Shadow magic, probably. maybe wild magic.)
Extended Signature! Yay! https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/off-topic/adohands-kitchen/3153-extended-signature-thread?page=2#c21
Haven’t used this account in forever. Still a big fan of crawling claws.
Without Content sharing: Mostly the same thing but replace magic with extreme stealthyness and fireballs with being a criminal because he is a Half-Elf Rogue! https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/BoboBoombang/characters/6877180 for now.

Name: Abraxas Onassis
Race/Class: Half-elf/Wizard
Character sheet link: https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/Squaretoes/characters/6113173
Experience: I played the very early editions decades ago and returned to 5e during the last two years. My experience has been face-to-face and includes DMing TOA. I haven't play PbP, but am interested in learning how it's done.
Availability: MST. I can post at least once each day.
