Krolbrik, Adira, Bala. The three of you decide to take a short rest for the next hour or so, despite one of you being dragged along by a giant bear. If you've lost any strength from the shadows' attacks, you feel newly rejuvenated after a break, restoring your strength score to it's normal value in addition to the benefits of taking a Short Rest. (I'll update your scores, but feel free to hit that short rest button)
Aka, beyond the portcullis you can see a flooded room with a large, octagonal, stone dais in the middle. Featureless stone pillars support the ceiling, and a breach in the west wall leads to a dark cave heaped with refuse. Murky water covers most of the floor. Stairs lead up to dry stone ledges that hug the walls. Rusty chains with shackles dangle from the ceiling directly above a stone altar mounted on the dais.
You can't make out the origin of the chanting, but it is definitely in that room.

Adira will pull out her pan pipes and play a soft tune. Anyone who spends hit dice to recover during our short rest will get back an extra 3 HP from Song of Rest.
Hit dice: 9
So she will heal for a total of 10 which brings her back to full.

Aka moves into the room. He readies himself to attack any creature to come out that he is unfamiliar with (ready action). He looks into the water and at the altar to determine details of which would be strange or important. 21
Aka, your path is blocked by the lowered portcullis. Your investigation shows that the only way to raise it lies just beyond on the inside of the chamber.
Bala, the orb itself doesn't seem to be magical, but it would appear to function as an arcane focus in the right hands.
Aka, as far as you can tell this is a mundane orb. Though lacking magical properties it's still a big monster eye. The gaps in the portcullis are too small for anybody in your party to squeeze through, but if you gave it a good enough try you might be able to lift the gate up high enough for somebody to squeeze underneath. Unfortunately, the water is 2 feet deep around the portcullis, about half a foot taller than you are.
Ericina mov3s tomoffer to try and do so in her bear form but in the instant she foes the hour limit she has comes about and she slowly returnsnto her human form. As she fully retakes her orginal form she seems to pout about its lack of besr like features.

Krolbrik seems immediately relieved to take a rest, medidating deeply in prayer over his circumstances.
There was much about the land of Barovia that greatly disturbed him, and he had a hunch that this horrid house would be the least of their concerns. He laid back against the stone and tried to clear his mind, allowing his body to recuperate.
(Hit Dice: 9 )
The rest would certainly help Krolbrik recoup from his injuries, but as soon as he rises to stretch, he takes a moment to look about and listen for any more hostile entities that may be stalking him and his comrades in the dark.
Feeling that things are more secure, Krolbrik would move to make his way back over towards the others making a commotion further down... only to see Aka attempting an ill-advised feat of diving.
"I know what I am about to say will sound... odd, given the foulness of this place, but I believe we should take a more extensive rest before we dare to venture forward into the darkness of this wretched dwelling. I know that some of us just took a moment to breathe after that mess, but I believe a more extensive rest would be wise. We've been trekking deeper into this wretched house for quite some time now, and I've personally exhausted my own abilities. There was a room full of beds further back, wasn't there...? We should rest there before we dare to venture further. The things that... live... within this place are not going to be going anywhere. And in this way, we can assure that we will be renewed to fight."
Ericicna nods at what the hobgoblin paladin suggests as she pokes at the portcullis, looking at it as she draws her scimitar and gently bangs it against the bar. "If we rest we might have a better chance of moving this.... Or we can just go back and leave this weird house....."
"Hey, if you wanna kill yourself so badly, be my guest. To my knowledge, I've almost died twice today, I'm not tempting lady fate a third time before breakfast."
"Look, we've cleaned this place out as it is. I say we've done 80% of the job already. And who knows, maybe those kids wouldn't have wanted us to die while trying. Just a thought."

Despite the fact he is back up, Ericina will continue to attempt to pull the tabaxi along with her as she goes to follow after Aka.

Haven’t used this account in forever. Still a big fan of crawling claws.

Hmmm....
(is there any way to squeeze through? Maybe with an acrobatics check or something?)

As he makes his way to the Kobold, Bala is going to pull out the weird orb from his bag and look it over, trying to see what makes it so special.

(pick the one that makes more sense, Dm)
As Aka waits, he pulls out his eyeball orb and looks at that too.
(yeah, I should find out what is cool about mine too.)

(Ah crap) Aka hears the song of Adira and sees Bala looking at his orb. Aja puts the eyeball back in his bag as he gathers the two up.
Ok, who here is strong? I need someone strong to lift that Portcullis! The chanting comes from there!

Krolbrik, you don't detect anything in your immediate presence. For the moment, at elast, you're safe.
Feeling that things are more secure, Krolbrik would move to make his way back over towards the others making a commotion further down... only to see Aka attempting an ill-advised feat of diving.

Yes, but, we have to kill the monster! For Walter! And those other kids!
