and you have the responsibility to protect those who cannot protect themselves. That is what it means to be a member of the Adventurers Guild."
Duncan let's a small laugh out at being told to protect those who cannot protect themselves, thinking "If they cannot protect themselves and their own, they do not deserve to have it."
Jack walks out with the others. When out of earshot he will say to the others, “If I wanted to live a life of helping others while sacrificing wealth I would have become a priest of a temple. Still, saving a king and his daughter should provide ample opportunity to make some coin, one way or another. Only what we deserve as fair compensation of course.” He says with a smile
Elber looks confused by Jack and Duncan's words. "Then why give your name to this guild if your only motivation be coin? Jebediah did not claim it to be more than a gathering of those sharing an ideal, providing opportunity for adventure but truly promising no reward, save for a far-away castle where to tell tales or revel in the stories of others."
"Castles have treasure. Guilds reward those who serve them. This is why people join them and serve those in power, for tastes of the power themselves. I don't want to be a king, but I would someday like land and gold to last my old age. Regardless, we said we'd travel together. You all here have proven yourselves in battle, and are worthy compatriots. Let us see what we can find together." Duncan replies
Kai ask, "Does this guild, and its resources, extend to providing transport? If not, then let us gather our belongings and some extra rations and be off."
DM: On foot, how long of a trip are we looking at, best case... :)
"Ah, friends, we are all on this journey for our own reasons. As Duncan rightly points out, we have fallen in together and have found common benefits working together. Such is not to say that we will always share the drive of another when we look upon the paths laid out before us. Be it coin and rewards, the simple feeling of acting for good, or in my case the spinning of a tale no other could recite, we can each weigh our desires and know whether we wish to step those paths exclusively for our own reasons or to support another's.
Kai and Elber have their hearts set on a journey to Conwe, and many a twist can be found in the most innocent of journeys. I say let us travel for Kai, and look upon this haunting as a detour to our next destination."
(The guild does not offer transportation, but you could rent or purchase a cart or wagon with no difficulty. Castle Conwe is a day or two's travel from Thithladroth through relatively peaceful country, by your best estimate.)
You exit the disreputable inn and emerge into the street, which by this time is filled with individuals who walk with their shoulders hunched and their heads bowed. While they vary in appearance, they all share the common characteristics of shabby clothes, lined faces, and exhausted expressions.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Never rent when you can buy. I'm thinking that dropping 150gp should set us up with a pair of draft horses, a four-wheeled wagon, bit and bridle, a considerable amount of grain/feed, and whatever else is assumed to be in the package of a horse-drawn wagon.))
As the group passes by a stables, Elber will halt and remember that his purse is weighed down with coin before turning towards the stable to buy horses and a wagon. "A practical luxury might be welcome. Let me arrange to spare our feet."
Elber doesn't haggle on the price, but he does check the horses to find a healthy pair that aren't too friendly or opposed to each other.
“Count me in on some riding instead of walking” Jack says to Elber as he rubs his coin purse with a nod of approval. “I could pitch in, but I don’t know horses real well. Best someone else inspects the goods.”
The stable master, a jovial red-bearded man, offers two strong horses and a cart for 100 gold pieces.
"You'll be doing me a favor by taking this'n off my hands." He says, patting a muscular black mare on the neck. "She's a right handful. Of course, I could find you a horse with a calmer temperament, if'n it be more to your liking."
"I be used to tempers such as hers, so let this coin be an easier handful." Elber pays from his own pouch for now, so the others can chip in as they please on the road.
Jeb sighs and nods reluctantly. "I hope to see you again." He says, ushering you to the door and bidding you good day.
