Neya raises her hand and introduces herself to the unseen Harae, “Neya.”
“If communication is the goal, maybe simplicity is key here. We know that Harae is capable of knocking. Let’s start with “Yes or No” questions. One knock for yes and two for no.”
(OOC: As discussed, reading the books/journal on their entirety would take a couple of hours, at least, and would be activities better suited for a short or long rest. However, if you are successful in communicating with the ghost, you might get some help like when she flipped the pages to show you the passage about The Right Hand of Tyr. I just thought I'd make this point clear because we have been going back and forth on whether the group is going to rest or not.)
Quill, ink, and standard-quality pieces of parchment can be found on the purple wood desk without a lot of effort. However, Graxx can only find two unused candles on the shrine and then two more that were lit by the spirit he has begun referring to as Harae. Along with Neya's torch, the light emanating from Utar's Driftglobe is drowning whatever light these candles are producing.
Meanwhile, Praxx skims over the next couple of pages on the Tyr book. He learns that at some point, the clerical order that called itself The RIght Hand of Tyr split into two factions. One kept the original name while the other adopted a similar one, The Gauntlet of Law. The former continued to worship Tyr as their main deity while the latter chose to focus on the worship of Torm. The two orders remained closely linked and amiable.
After Neya proposes her approach, the old looking brass scale that is on display at the shrine tips to the left despite no weight being placed on it. A soft knock is heard once the plate of the scale touches the stone of the shrine. A constant gentle breeze now blows through this secret room.
"We are here to investigate the reason why the lighthouse is out and are searching for Igan Sokol to gain his insight into the matter."
"We have, not long ago, been to his quarters and saw that he was in a habit of study. We're not entirely sure what the subject was, but we think it may pertain to the magic of the lighthouse or some related interest."
Neya presents the helm she discovered. "During the search of his room our search we have uncovered this helm hidden in a chamber. One of the groundskeepers, Shandra, requested we bring it to him as he may need it. Perhaps you can help us locate him?"
Graxx watches as Neya adeptly approaches the ghost. He decides she must speak ghost since she is not using his ghost speech technique.
Graxx takes a quill and parchment and begins to write one word on one page and another on another page. He then positions the candles where one is on one page and another is on the other page. Others cannot yet see what Graxx has written yet and he does not ask a question at the moment as he allows Neya to ask the questions.
Graxx does however move to find something heavy in the room and begins to do a few bicep curls to give his arms a good pump.
The tiny bronze scale tips to the left once again, following Neya's short speech and question. An accurate breeze then flips pages on both the Tyr book and Igan's journal. The former is being held by Praxx, the latter by Neya.
The book on Tyr lands on a page that describes The Helm of Justice. This item was considered a great tool in the deliverance of justice by the order of The Right Hand of Tyr. It was fashioned upon the request of the then Grand Master of the Order, and elderly half-elf named Nuriel Moonglare, to clearly fit his own features (pointed ears, elongated face, etc.). The pages describe how the helm was used by the Grand Master to hear the voices of all who came seeking for his judgement in an equal and fair manner. It would allow him to not be dissuaded by trivial matters like distant dialects, accents, untranslatable idioms, and the like. Reading this, Praxx now understands that the helm they found in Igan's quarters and about which Neya has asked questions to be a Helm of Comprehending Languages.
In turn, the journal lands on an almost empty page with a few scribbles. In them, Igan describes how he was able to find a helm of arcane power within a hidden wall compartment in his room. After studying many books on armor, he eventually learned what the helm was capable of, but by that point it was of no use to him as he had already translated enough Thorass to be able to read the tome entitled Moonsea Cults. Reading this passage, Neya alsorealizes that the helm she holds is a Helm of Comprehending Languages.
Assuming this knowledge is shared, Utar now also understand the power of the item. Graxx on the other hand is too busy preparing his way ways of communicating with the ghost.
Now that Graxx feels that Neya has been answered he makes sure the candles are just perfect next to the paper.
He then calls out to the spirit this time taking a page from Neya's book and speaking clearly. "Oh wise spirit! You have helped us! Now help us once more settle a dispute among mortals."
Graxx points to the candle and paper to the left. "You see on the left side here you have a piece of paper with my name, Graxx written on it".
Graxx points to the candle and paper to the right. "On the right, you have a piece of paper with the name Praxx. Very important as I know the names are similar. This is the name of the short stubby gnome reading the book."
Graxx walks over and stands next to Praxx. He is standing casually but you can tell he is flexing slightly but trying to be subtle. "Would you be so kind to light the candle on top of the name who is the best looking and would light your desires when you were among the living?"
Graxx holds his breath staring at his candle on the left hoping it lights flexing his arms.
The doors to one of the two cabinets above the purple wood desk open suddenly following another blow of the breeze. Two presumably unimportant books come flying from its shelves, each one hitting Graxx and Praxx on the head. No serious damage is felt, and the whole "attack" fells like a friendly slap more than anything else. Harae apparently dislikes being teased.
As far as you all can tell, Harae then settles and waits for you to finish reading the book passages that she "highlighted" for you (the pages I described in my last post). Otherwise, she seems ready for another question, as hinted at by the plates of the tiny scale on the shrine being leveled again.
Failing to stifle a laugh, Utar chuckles for a moment and appears to wipe away a tear from his eye.
"Well said Harae, with that line of inquiry now settled, I thought we might be able to focus on our task here on the island. We have been asked to relight the lighthouse. Do you know how we could do that?"
Graxx is disappointed which worsens with Utar's laugh, he turns to Praxx, "We will settle this another day, bard! You say I am deformed! I say I am handsome!"
Graxx turns to Neya and motions towards his paper and candle. "You seem to have better luck with the talking. Feel free to use this if you wish."
Neya gives a small smirk, "Glad to see that personal standards persist in the afterlife."
"Back to the matter at hand: some on the mainland are under the impression the Black Fist is, in some way, involved with the lighthouse's current state. Is there any truth to that?"
Amid a continous gentle blowing breeze, Graxx's disappointment, and Praxx's ironic comments, the tiny scale tips left in response to Utar's question, pinging once against the stone.
At Neya's mention of the Black Fist, the breeze picks up into a light gust. The scale tips once again, albeit less carefully, and hits the stone base once with a sharp ting. The journal's pages flip abruptly and the monk loses her grip, letting the journal hit the floor. A loose page comes off, landing next to the journal. On the page, it is clear that whatever pretense of scholarly research Igan had devolved into the ramblings of an obsessed man.
Neya is taken aback by the tone of the answer, "That was a strong response...!" She picks up the loose page and looks it over at different angles, "But I think it means we need to locate and speak with Sargeant Grim, he seems to be involved in what Igan was researching. A treasure of some kind..."
Gazing over Neya's shoulder at the note, Utar resolves to spend some time with this after a bit of study with the books that they found in Igan's room and the ones passed to them by Harae.
"Did they find the treasure they were seeking, Harae? Is that connected to the lighthouse going out?...Is this Grim someone we should be trusting?"
Graxx stands on his tip toes to peek over Utar's shoulder then over Neya's shoulders with excitement. Until he see's a bunch of words. "Ah! I thought it was a treasure map and not words!"
Graxx then goes back to the corner and awaits the ghosts answers to Neya and Utar's questions.

Graxx says, "While your doin' your reading see if it mentions anything about the slaying of all Bane worshipers."
"Maybe it needs our names?"
Utar puts his hand on his chest and looks around the room.
"Utar."
Graxx would like to search for all the candles he can find in the room and any type of writing utensil and parchment?
