Strix, the magical fire is attracted to the quarterstaff; the flames dance and curl around the staff, coming close to your hands - you don't feel heat, but you do feel something - a tingling of magical energy. The green fire lingers for a few seconds, and then seems to withdraw, but even after you pull your staff back you feel the same slight tingling as before, and see the faintest of green glows around it.
(Your quarterstaff is a +1 weapon, with +1 to attack rolls and +1 damage, for the next 12 hours)
As impressive as this is, you don't learn any more about the forge than you knew before. It's clear that it was more powerful in the past, and its power has faded; beyond that, you can't say.
(don't put your fist in don't put your fist in don't put your fist in)
Strix stares at the staff in wonder, swinging it around a few times. Then he goes to put his fist i-NO HE ******* DOESN'T, STOP!
He balks at the last second.
"Fire. Is magic. Make stick... better? Look! Strix am artfisher now!"
Aw yeeeeeeah! So I take it we're killing the dwarves and keeping this room for ourselves then? :)
If this thing has limited charges - sorry. I was just trying to be mildly amusing by setting a stick on fire. If it doesn't have limited charges, let me reiterate : Aw yeeeeeeeeah!
Incantis ritual-casts [spell]identify[/spell on the armor absentmindedly, his concentration wavering several times over the course of the ritual as his torso feels inexplicably pulled at the neck toward the brazier. His eyes flutter. Zhudala keeps watch.

Incantis, it takes ten minutes to ritual cast Identify, but you learn a lot. This armour does not require attunement, and it is the armour of a great hero of Neverwinter names Tergon, who faced and defeated a dragon that threatened the city. It is Dragonguard.

Aye, Scupper I believe you have! Dekhan smiles at his friend and then admires the armor. It is beautiful. Truly a masterwork. It doesn’t offer quite as much protection as my mail, however. But it would allow me to move more quietly! And if I pass my shield through the brazier that will grant me some more protection! Dekhan is pretty enamored with the idea of wearing the ancient hero’s armor, tales of ancient heroes are why he got into Paladining in the first place. And it will come in handy if we run into any dragons! He laughs then furrows his brow. Say, do we know what drove the dwarves out of the mine? Dekhan runs back over his favorite stories seeing if he can remember anything about Tergon history3
Incantis, the flickering of the amulet and the responding flickering of the brazier grow noticeably stronger as you enter the room. You get a strange sense of encouragement, and you don't feel that there is anything to be alarmed about. What you feel is not quite comforting or kind, but rather the comfort of certainty, of knowing something that must happen and cannot be changed.
Varinth, you feel the magic from the brazier, but cannot really figure out how it's supposed to work. You stick your staff in, but it's not really useful as a weapon, and as you withdraw it, you don't notice any effect similar to what happened to Strix. As you do so, you think of what you've heard of the Lost Mine of Phandelver, and you're pretty sure you heard somewhere that it was abandoned when the mine was invaded by orcs and most of its workers slaughtered; you recall that you've seen a few orc bodies and remains around the place. You also know that this was part of an orcish invasion that devastated the region, and by the time it had recovered enough to think about reopening the mine, the knowledge of its location had been lost.
Scupper, it's a magical fire. It doesn't seem to respond to you, though it does seem to be dancing and flickering in response to something.
Incantis sets the armor down. This armor will protect one of us from dragons. Its acquiring was fated, as was this. Without hesitation, Incantis walks up to the brazier, holding up the amulet. He leaves the party to discuss this Tergon.
Sorry, hope this is ok - it's a grapple only. Nondamaging. I was specifically warned not to let Incantis do this, admittedly by an evil elf. So if the PvP upsets you, it's the DMs fault :D
Incantis, you notice the flickering of the crystal and the flame intensify as you draw closer to the brazier; and your eyes drift upwards. Is it merely a reflection, or is one of the false 'stars' in the ceiling also twinkling in the same way. It must be an illusion, because for a moment that 'star' looks exactly like...
THUMP!!
A speeding shifter collides with you, attempting to hold you back from the brazier. Make an Athletics or Acrobatics check, if you wish to resist the grapple attempt.

Incantis' hand is outstretched, off-hand at his necklace. His eyes glow purple, twinkling with the reflections from the star-like minerals above. The party members feel a sonic disturbance in their minds, a telepathic -augh!-.

Tergon... Tergon... I can’t quite place the name. Any of you ever heard of him? Any idea how his armor ended up here?
