If the others do not stop him, he lifts the boy by his armpits to test his weight and hrmmmms to himself.
The average healthy 10 year old boy weighs 70lbs or so and this one is malnourished. Strix has a carry capacity of 180lbs and a jump distance of 12 feet. I'm betting at least Zoria, Dekhan and Dario can beat that. So technically we can just bundle them under our arms and leap, like Batroc! But he's not the best at public relations so hopefully another character can intervene if this kicks off :D
The only caveat is that if there's another way to go, then there's another way to go and we don't know who's gone that way while we were here - we have to get the prisoners all the way back to the surface so we have a visual on the road to town (our line of sight on the secret passage has only been broken a short time, it's unlikely anyone who's used it since would be all the way into town by now)
Satisfied, Strix smiles at the boy and asks "Boy prefer throw? Or pigback?"
If the mother/sister doesn't stop him. Strix will bundle the boy under his arm and start heading for the pit.
"Lock him up if you will Dekhan but know this: I know not if I have the coin for Zoria's toll, but I'd see every redbrand we encounter henceforth suffer death."
Dekhan, Mirna answers you. Thank you, I... thank you so much. We just need to get out of here. We need to go home. I... Did Hester send you? The Townmaster. Or maybe... The boy interrupts her. It's a trick. They're with the Redbrands. He raises his fists, but the woman grabs onto them and forces the boy to look at her. It's okay, Nars, it's okay. It's okay. She just keeps repeating 'It's okay' as the boy deflates, lowers his head, and buries his face in her shoulder.
Who is the boy referring to when he says "They're with the Redbrands."? Is it Hester? Insight (If it it wasn't clear): 18
Well, says Omyn slowly, to the rest. To the hole, and the barracks, and the boss's quarters. Most of the stuff is over there.
As he says this, he sees Varinth approach and hears his words. No, please, please don't. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I have money. It's not much. He reaches into his pockets and pulls out a small bag of coins, holding it up to you.
Zoria looks to Incantis pointing at the bag of money. "That'll do it."

OCC: I'm sure if Scupper is small and can "mount" Zoria, then these children will have no trouble doing the same thing. I think the only one we will have to rope across is the mother.
Strix, the boy looks alarmed as you pick him up. Hey, put me down. When you do so, he snaps Do not throw me. The woman says; It's okay, dear, they're just trying to help. The boy shakes his head slightly, but doesn't say anything more. He will resist any attempt to pick him up again without consent.
Zoria, you can tell that the boy was initially afraid that you (i.e. Dekhan and the party) were somehow in league with the Redbrands, but his mother seems to have reassured him that this is not the case. He's still a bit jumpy though. The humans all count as 'medium' creatures, even the boy who is surprisingly tall (as many thirteen-year-olds are). You can probably carry them, but they can't ride upon you, if that makes sense. (That's my understanding of RAW, at least).
Dekhan, Omyn cries The door. The hidden door. There's two, one there (he points to the west) and one there (he points to where you found the door earlier). You just have to get past the thing... the thing with the eye.
Consent aside, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to ride a centaur. I'm seeing Zoria's carrying capacity is 500lbs and I'm pretty confident carrying 10-15% of your carrying capacity wouldn't impact your athleticism.
"Answer me! Do the two paths lead to the same destination?! Where is the eye monster??"

I think you're correct that humans are generally considered medium creatures, but small creatures are considered to be between 2-4 feet. I think if they're a human in that size area the judgment call is up to you. So if you say they're medium, then you're correct they cannot ride upon me.

I should be able to carry them no problem, I was wondering more for the aesthetic. I guess the mounting rules takes account like back strength or spine strength or something to that nature. I should be able to carry them in my arms, no big deal, but for them to ride on my back is where I'm trying to find the ruling, but like I said it's more for flavor in this situation.

There's a "You made this happen, Jeremy!" comic of a Centaur mounted on a Horse in order to use a Lance's mounted bonus damage, so I don't know if that implies that they are not full-horse-sized bodies and have limited carrying capacity or it's just a mechanic to prevent everyone rolling lance-carrying Centaurs and cleaning house with them. Either way, as long as we stop all this talk of mounting so I can get the image of Scupper and Zoria making ponypeople babies, I'll accept any ruling the DM wants to offer :D
Strix takes a step back from the boy, hands up.
"Fierce! Always fierce? Or only with friend. Boy make many Deadbrands? Thought not! You want stay, you want lead way, be guest! Strix follow fierce boy. Want leave, change name - You 'Shotput' now!
Translation : I will hazard a guess, young man, that you are not as brave as you wish to appear, and certainly were not so brave when the redbrands imprisoned you and your family. If you wish to prove me wrong, let's go - lead the way deeper into this warren. If you want to leave, I'm bloody well throwing you over that pit, miladdo!
What is the ”thing with the eye?” Can we get past it? Can we kill it?
What do we as characters know about this thing? Should I do a history check?
We already did checks when we were first told about the eye monster from the whole "to decapitate or not to decapitate" debacle lol we know there are a lot of creatures known for their eyes, such as cyclops and beholders as examples. That's pretty much it. Because we already did checks about the creature, idk if we could do it again unless new information comes up.
"Right. This lot ain't likely to be much help against an eyeball monster...unless it's jest an eyeball and one o' them could step on it...but that whole monster half o' that reference tells me nay. So let's quick as we can get this lot on they way back to town kill that thing. This lad can introduce us."
He nods at the weeping Redbrand.
"You'd make a lousy pirate wit all that moaning and weeping. Did the people that you beat and sold, weep? Then shut yer gob and take yer pay - good and bad - fer the job ye did.
After we deal with the monster, we then decide if we have enough blood to go further or set up and wait on the bugbears while trying te get some kip."

I see... let’s try this then.
Does it have a name? How big is it? Does it walk on two legs or four? Have you seen it attack? How big is it. Does anyone have parchment and quill?
Lol I'm just trying to envision the human arms that can carry more than a horse's back, I would think if anything it'd be EASIER for them to ride. My point is that I suppose it seems obvious to me that if a centaur is capable of carrying a person then they could do so on their back, especially because centaur's double carrying capacity comes from "equine build" not "powerful muscles"
Incantis is losing patience with the man. His voice swells telepathically in the redbrand's mind, filled with a horrible cacophony of overlapping and anguished voices. With a minor illusion, Incantis' normally purple eyes fill with an inky and swirling blackness.
"Where. Is. The. Eye monster! And what is it? Answer, whelp, or you'll rue the 'mercy' that's keeping you alive."

Oh, I see what you're saying now lol I agree with you. I guess we have to disguish the difference between what is considered "mounting" me vs what is considered "carrying" people on my back. Maybe I can carry anything up to my capacity, but only Small creatures can gain the benefits of mounting. That seems like the most raw portrayal I can think of.

Zoria peeks out over Incantis' shoulder jocularly, in view of the Redbrand and rubs her fingers together. I.e. "money"
IIRC they nerfed the PC centaur cause they didn’t want people riding them around or even “stacking centaurs” which is why they count as medium creatures. It’s dumb but then how else would a centaur be able to walk around a dungeon?
