"I was wondering myself where that thing got off to. Owes me a dinner plate. Also wondering if Gundren and The Lost Mine might be somewhere hereabouts..."
Scupper pulls out the letter from the Black Spider.
"But if the Spider was nearby, he probably wouldn't bother with letters. Best we head into town, wait fer one o' the Brothers Rockseeker to give us better directions."
When we leave we are gunna have to lock up so One Eye doesn't get out. He's got a lot to eat here so he should be occupied for a while He gestures to the lightly smoking bodies surrounding him
We gotta remember to take Ommy from the jail with us as well. Let the townsfolk sort him out.
Varinth is exhausted. It's been a long night of competitive drinking and ball shrinking combat. His side is throbbing, and not in a good way. He needs a bed or failing that, at least the nook of Soodi's legs.
OH CRAP! Our employer! I nearly forgot about him! Do you think One Eye has him down there? he points to the southern corridor. Or do you think he's already in there?he gestures with his thumb over his shoulder to the crevasse behind him. He takes another swig at the thought.
Continue as instructed, and ensure that the town remains under your control. Should any of the Rockseeker brothers return, take them captive and inform me at once. I’m counting on you, Iarno. Don’t disappoint me.
The letter is not signed, but there is a mark at the bottom:
"We could parse this letter a dozen ways but it seems to me that the Black Spider is somewhere else. I tink it were written before Gundren was taken or it'd say 'any MORE Rockseeker brothers show up'...but i tink the best bet is ta ask the lads when they arrive...which is supposedly soon ifn I remember correctly."
Scupper, the hideout is strangely devoid of arrows. You find only ten in a single quiver in the room where they were playing cards. You are able to recover half of the ones you fired during combat as well. In the armoury, it's all crossbows and bolts.
Dekhan, you are able to heal yourself fairly well, though you still feel shaken and in need of a rest.
Varinth, there's no sign of the creature with the large eye; as far as you can tell, it has left the area.
He ten scrapes off the gore leans past the bodies to look into their barracks...and looks over at Strix
There's a whatsits in there...gobo...he dead?
Strix shrugs. "Not dead. Yet. Night young. Mebbe worth keep - not friend bugbear, may know where mine."
One after the other, he drags the dead bugbears to the crevasse, searches them and rolls them in. "No need waste good meat."
For those watching in black and white, Strix believes the Goblin might have information and might be well disposed towards us for taking care of the Bugbears who were tormenting him. He also worries that unless the passage south is an exit, and he has no reason to believe it is, there's every chance that Blinky is just waiting to reclaim his fridge - that lad was obsessed with freshness and there can't be too many unnaturally cold crevasses in the Triboar area. He seemed morally ambiguous and combat-averse though so no reason not to curry his favour as long as the meat is no one we know. If we run into him again, the promise of a full larder might be the difference between another scrap and making a BFF.
Strix, you find a badly burnt leather pouch on one of the bugbears. The pouch is no longer usable, but the thirty silver pieces within are still fine. Though Eyepatch's eyepatch is destroyed, the little gems that decorated it have survived the flames and are worth about 50 gold pieces in total. You also find a large iron key that looks as though it might fit the armoury door that the party has already opened.
I'll help Mr Strix. says Vaz Should we drag Glassy Britches to the Feeding Hole as well?
"Hmmmm... Long way. But can't leave, stink out village... Besides, need head, prove dead. Can wait. Should check south. Secure. Then clean. Then glory!"
Yeah, we can't just go leaving corpses lying around the place. It's irresponsible, and a terrible example to the children of Phandelin. Not that decapitation is a good example but we need to show the captured Redbrands - all of whom are alive because they haven't faced us in combat, so have no idea how much trouble they're in - who's in charge, and to confirm their current lack of employment. We could just drag his whole body up but then Strix has to explain why that body is naked... who needs that aggro?
Do we know if the Redbrands are an organisation that exists beyond the context of this town? Are they a well known mercenary company or cult or something?
BTW, adding on to the last post of treasure updates, can everyone add 3gp, 3ep, 11sp, 7cp to their sheets - covers off the bug bear and redbrand common rooms. The kitty gets 4ep, 6sp, 6cp, 30gp of Earrings, 50gp of assorted little gems. I assume we flog the gems at the nearest available jewellers when we find one and divvy up. If Zoria or Incantis would pick up those loose eyepatch gems for character reasons (eyepatch grieving / tiny pocket constellation) let me know! Otherwise as things stand once we offload the jewels there's another 17GP coming everyone's way.
Once the bugbears are in the larder, he sets to securing the unconscious goblin (with whatever is to hand in the barracks, using the wolf chain in his pack if necessary) and searching the barracks.
Strix, you find a piece of rope in the room, sufficient to tie up the still unconscious goblin. However, there's nothing else of any real value there; the bugbears kept all their coin and weapons on them.
Dekhan takes a long, nerve soothing pull from the wineskin and walks over and hands it back to Vaz. Much appreciated, Vaz. Next rounds on me. More meat in the larder will keep eye boy occupied for now, but I have misgivings about leaving him here in town...
Zoria stands back to her feet, wipes her tears and places a hand on Vaz' shoulder. "It was the fanciest eyepatch I'd ever seen. I could've sold it Akadi knows how much gold." She sniffs. "I'm not gonna cry again....."
Hey all, sorry for being absent. IRL took up a lot of my time this pst week. Will be back to posting more often.
Dariocomes over to Dekhan and rests next to him, the pain in his thigh still throbbing. "Too bad you're not an elf, Dekhan, because my old guard could have used a few men like you." Dario looks up to the rest of them, "same goes to you all." He then takes his waterskin from his pack and starts to guzzle down water and then offers it to anyone who needs it.
Mayhaps with a wee bit more practice on the bow. I have a feeling the other elves wouldn't let me play any elven games and jest make fun o' these shots I've taken today. Plus I've heard elves is less accepting of torture...but you must admit the well placed needles under finger nails has always proved entertaining if not always effective.
Thank you, Dario, that means a lot. I did stop that Morningstar with some skill, haha. What’s next, boys? Search this place some more or back to the tavern for ale, accolades, rewards, and rest?
Dragging his new pet behind him, Strix approaches the morose mare and pours a trickle of tiny jewels into hand. "Learn sew. Rebuild. Regood." Then turning to address Scupper, Dario and Dekhan he adds "Should look south. Blinky loose. Mebbe Redbrands. Mebbe worse." He points up at the ceiling. "Want village pay, need know safe."
Dekhan stands with a stifled grown and tests his newly healed arm. I suppose we shouldn’t leave till the jobs done. He readies his shield and draws Talon. We ready?
I'll say this...I don't think "blinky" will be as easy as he let on. He was in our minds and that bodes ill in a fair fight...not that I fights fair. We wanna huunt the wee shite down, I'll back the move but we should rest. I'm fine to go but shouldn't we make sure we've spells handy and a plan? Did he disappear or was they mind tricks? Can he play with our thoughts or perpeceptions? No offense Incantus but you mind dancing lot make me more nervous'n a one legged man in an ass-kicking contest.
"No offense taken Scup,"Incantis says, taking a mental note and making sure to reply out loud. "Blinky might be the enemy we've found so far I sympathize most with,"he continues. "I'd love to be able to confidently leave it here to peacefully enjoy its chilly crevasse, but I know better than to trust aberrations...All is ask is that if it's disposal we have in mind, let's have some mercy about it shall we? Can't fault a creature for heeding its nature."

I agree with Incantis. Does anyone know anything about this creature? In town perhaps? Or did Iarno bring it here? He looks at the trussed goblin and raises his eyebrows. Does anyone speak goblin?
