Mugs decided to take the offer of a free room. As Filli goes towards the room she catches up with her. "Should we make copies of the map? In case something happens to this one. Or if we get captured we can say we're bringing it to RatBeard to trade for our friends." Without actually losing the map.
While waiting to hear from Basiel Filli finds herself turned around by Mugs. After listening she nods at the idea. "That sounds like an interesting idea, but I don't know how long a copy would take to make? Let us discuss this with the others in the morning, I'm sure we will have much to do before we set sail." As Filli finishes she smiles warmly to Mugs. "Sleep well friend, we will need the rest!"
Basiel nods in agreement with Benagol, "You can count me in as well." he replies to Filli, "I'll stay here tonight - I already have a room, in fact. I'll get packed now and come back down to close the place up before I go to sleep. I'll ask Larkan - there must be some storm windows and the like that we could use to barricade the place against any curious folks who pass by tonight. If there isn't anything of the sort, I'll keep watch. I don't want to wake and find more of these pirates around my bed!"
Basiel will return shortly with his backpack stuffed and ready to go, now changed into his armour and carrying a shield. He will either barricade the main floor entrances and windows, if he can, or he will keep watch tonight and take a point of exhaustion.
He will be ready to go in the morning, either way. Before they leave, he'll want to pay Larkan for his stay, and for the dinner and drink he had earlier in the night.
During all of this activity Erika slipped out to the docks. ((Don’t really know how Criminal contact works in this game)) She’ll find a sailor ((or someone who can take a message)) and send a letter to Jimmy to let him know she made it across safely. Then she’ll head back to the inn to get some rest.
((For this game, we'll assume that you have a contact around here, probably some unsavory pirate or smuggler)). Erika slips out of the tavern and sends a quick note to Jimmy telling him that she made it there safely. Then, she slips back into the tavern.
Relieved at Basiels confirmation that he will join them Filli replies to him "Excellent, that makes six of us then. I'm feeling more confident with every moment now. And thank you, that sounds like a sensible idea. I appreciate you looking out for the place. I hope you have a quiet night friend!"
With that Filli will go to Larkan and pay for any rooms that need paying for, and if he refuses to charge them she will insist. Retiring to her room she says a few prayers to Argon wishing protection on Gerant and Vons and for his guidance and illumination on the party as they go in search of them. After that she will get as much sleep as she can that night, though making sure to be up by first light.
The night passes uneventfully. It is morning, and you wake up to the smell of a delicious soup being cooked downstairs for the six of you. "Good to see you're awake." Larkan remarks, as you come down the stairs.
Windborne is classfied as a keelboat. It does not have a ballista. The six of you will act as officers. Officers make special checks for the ship during travel. Each player can take one role as an officer. The officer roles are: Captain, First Mate, Bosun (the guy who fixes the ship), Quartermaster (plots ship's course), Surgeon, and Cook. Sort out who has which roles before you set out to sea. :)
When Mugs awakens she immediately checks for her coin purse. Pouring out the coins on the bed she counts up the individual gold silver and copper pieces. "All still there." She murmurs to herself as she flips a gold coin in her hand. She drops it into one of her shoes and gets dressed. Afterwards she sits at the desk and takes out a wooden rod draped in leather skins and reviews the runes on it concentrating for an hour.
Eventually after the cooking soup downstairs wafts up form under her door she snaps out of it and stowing the rod puts on her backpack and heads out to the kitchen grabbing a bowl of fresh soup. After a few people shuffle into the main hall she grabs Filli's attention, "I've been thinking about this boat business. I think that if I'm to be useful in any capacity if you're going to be a surgeon I should be the quartermaster. And if you take Captain or something I should be the surgeon." Looking around at the other people gathering in the room. "Noone else here looks like they would be the type to be good at cutting people open. I've actually had a decent amount of training in first aid."
After completing her morning prayers Filli gathers her things and heads down stairs to have breakfast. When she first enters the common room she greets Larkan "Morning friend, a quiet night I do hope? That smells wonderful!" before she takes a seat and helps herself to an offered bowl of soup from Larkan.
As Mugs joins her Filli and speaks to her of their roles on board Windborne she sits back and realises that her mind had been solely on the rescue of those taken and that there was much to consider. "I've no training in medicine myself friend, it is by Argon's divine light that the wounds of others are healed. My calling is in tending to the morale and spirits of others. I may know my way around a ship, but I am not a sailor by trade. I had hoped that one of our two seaman would take the helm if I'm honest." Looking over to Basiel and Benagol as she finishes looks pleadingly.
(OOC: Filli's preference would be to act as First Mate, but she would stand as captain if no one else wants to take the helm!)
Basiel has been up for a while, having awoken early to help Larkan take down the hastily built barricades. When the two of them finished opening the inn for the day, Basiel sat himself at the bar and ate breakfast, while Larkan prepared the rest of the meal for the others in the newly formed party. When he finishes his meal, Basiel interrupts Larkan to pay for the room he has kept the past fortnight, as well as pay for what he ate yesterday, and what he ate this morning. He asks, "Larkan, I'd like to settle my tab, when you have a moment."

As the rest of the group filters in over the next hour or so, Basiel greats each of them and introduces himself by name to those he has not been able to greet yet. When Filli looks over to him, Basiel brings his drink over from the bar and seats himself at her table, alongside Mugs. He thoughtfully takes a sip of his tea before looking at them both, replying, "As I said yesterday, I tended to be onboard vessels in a support capacity, as a part of the naval infantry. If everything was shipshape, I'd be ordered out of the way of those who actually got around to sailing. I suppose that meant that I had lots of time to observe the officers and the crews going about their business; but by and large, me and mine would only be active when the boat was boarded, or during an offensive operation of our own." He pauses, before shrugging and adding, with a smirk, "Sometimes we rowed."
"For what we're about to do, though, I'm sure I can serve as captain. I know enough of the ropes to figure the rest out once we're underway. If I foul it up... well, I won't take it personal if you all want to have me replaced."
Relief crosses Filli’s face as Basiel offers to take charge of the ship. With that she turns her attention to the business at hand. “Thank you friend, I am sure you will steer us well! Now, about business before we depart. Mugs has wisely suggested we leave the original map here, and I agree. I intend to take it to my family vault before we leave, unless anyone objects? She also suggested that we make a copy, or at least perhaps a fake, to use as a bartering tool in the blood shoals. What do you think? Aside from this my only other errand is to speak with the watch Captain to ensure Larkan is safe while Ratbeard is still at large. Do any of you need to get anything done?”
"Perhaps you should also stow the deed to the Windborne in your vault," Basiel suggests, and turns to Mugs, "And I think that is a smart idea, making a copy of the map. Unfortunately, I don't have any parchment or writing implements to do so myself. Perhaps there will be what we need onboard the ship. I suggest that our copy have intentional errors hidden in it, rather than being a fake. That way we will be able to decipher the chart, while others will be fooled, should it fall into the wrong hands."
"As for myself, I'd like to head to the ship itself and run an inspection of the supplies and tools onboard, as well as the general condition of the Windborne. However, perhaps I should first accompany you, Filli, to speak with the Captain of the Watch. I'm hopeful that some authority of Stormhaven would issue us a letter of marque to extend to us proper authority for our mission."
Dara comes down from her room, coming out of her long night of rest. She cleans herself up as best as she can and heads downstairs with her familiar on her shoulder. Her hood is back up to cover her features, but she does head over immediately towards the table Filli is at. Upon seating herself down, she gives a nod of greeting towards Filli and Mugs, quietly eating the meal that had been provided for them.
Dara isn't much of a talker, so she quietly observes and listens to the conversations. She has also never been in a boat for the purposes of sailing, and she just gently shakes her head. This would be the first time in her life that she would step off-land, and it would be quite the adventure. She'll just have to agree to whatever position is given to her as she does not know her way around working a boat.
As Dara is eating her meal, Filli and Mugs would notice a white weasel come down from Dara's shoulder and gently relax on her legs and seemingly almost purr in content as she pets Aspen fondly.
When Basiel greets himself and introduces himself to her, Dara nods in greeting once again before extending her hand, saying,
Nodding to Basiel Filli agrees as she finishes off her soup. She smiles warmly at the white weasel that appears from Daras shoulder. “That sounds sensible to me. If we lack the tools and talents to copy it ourselves does anyone know someone who could copy the map quickly? I daren’t ask any of the company scribes as my siblings will be guaranteed to find out in a matter of minutes. I would rather keep news of my departure as quiet as possible, my family isn’t exactly known for avoiding a scene.” As she finishes the last part she gets noticeably annoyed and rolls her eyes at the thought of it.
Benagol reaches the others and especially the hafling , even if from far away he was tempted to look down on Basiel, he remembers not to judge people (as he himself does not want to be judged).
"So you will be captain, will you? I offer my hands and my few experience, all in all it is not a bad ship, is it?"
Basiel smiles humourlessly at what Filli said about her family's undue interest in her affairs, and replies, "I think it would be wise if we all kept quiet about the news of our departure, in order for our travel to be undetected and unexpected. In fact, to keep all this as private as possible, I suggest we see if there is a cartography kit aboard the Windborne before we go searching for a scribe."
Basiel returns Dara's nod, and he also waves over at Erika as she seats herself, "Welcome, the two of you. My name is Basiel. In case you missed the news, Larkan has given us his ship, the Windborne, to aid us in our rescue mission. I will serve as Captain of the ship, for now, drawing on my experience on the sea in service to Conquista. Filli here shall be First Mate; Mugs will be our Surgeon - and hopefully she won't have to work very hard..."
As Benagol responds to him, Basiel turns and nods in reply to sailor, adding, "Thank you very much, I was hoping we could put your experience to use. We'll need someone to keep an eye on the ships leaks and repairs, and to make sure we're seaworthy to begin with. What do you say about serving as our Bosun? Perhaps you and I can survey the state of the Windborne later this morning after I run some errands with Filli. We can decide if it truly is a good ship together."
He turns back to the other two, Dara and Erika, and says, "I think we have two other positions we need to fill: Quartermaster and Cook. Dara, how are you with maps and navigational equipment? To be honest, even if you're not familiar with those things, are you a quick study? We'll need someone to chart our progress as we travel." To Erika, he says, "I wonder if you have any experience cooking?"
Mugs decided to take the offer of a free room. As Filli goes towards the room she catches up with her. "Should we make copies of the map? In case something happens to this one. Or if we get captured we can say we're bringing it to RatBeard to trade for our friends." Without actually losing the map.

As Filli finishes she smiles warmly to Mugs. "Sleep well friend, we will need the rest!"
Mugs shrugs and then retires to a random room that is unlocked.
Basiel nods in agreement with Benagol, "You can count me in as well." he replies to Filli, "I'll stay here tonight - I already have a room, in fact. I'll get packed now and come back down to close the place up before I go to sleep. Larkan looks to Basiel.
"Aye, there are some we could use. I'd feel much safer with this place boarded up for the night. I don't get much business this late anyways."
