Beetlejuice's approach seems to calm the woman slightly. "Well my good knight it is lovely to get your name finally. I was starting to think I might have to throw you both out of here." The woman reveals a crossbow she had been hiding under the counter and slams it down on the wooden countertop. "My name is Linene Graywind. I'm the owner of this establishment"
"I'm suprised you managed to get a cart here at all down the Triboar trail, that's no mean feat. Barthen seems to have got himself a good group of protectors for his wares... how much is he paying you? I myself have had my last shipment from Thornhold go missing, bandits most likely. But I can't go out there looking and leave the store unprotected. That was a week or so ago. You Syna and your talk of goblins, do you have reason to believe that goblins have ambushed the trail?"
"Goblins don't venture this far south and certainly not near the town anymore. They fear these hills so they'd rather hide in their caves in the woods. You think if we'd have goblins here I'd be hiding behind this counter?" She strokes the crossbow carefully "If those blasted Redbrands didn't have the whole town held to ransom we'd sort them out ourselves my pretty wouldn't we? If you boys want to sort the problem out please feel free, but don't expect me to part with any money for your troubles. There's plenty of fools much worse off than me that would love to pay for that sort of work."
"Anyway my new adventuring friends, I'm afraid I am closing for the night. Unless you want to buy anything I must ask you to leave. This inventory isn't going to count itself and the night isn't exactly getting longer" Linene returns to her book and her counting, she gestures to the door. "and please, you don't have to knock here. My door is always open to potential customers.... provided they aren't cloaked in red"
OOC: Beetle, I'll be at work again a few hours tomorrow but about most of the morning and night GMT. What's the rush, almost like you want to get this all over with already!?
"Well fair Linene, it was a pleasure, unless my associate here has any other questions we will leave you to your inventory." Beetle throws her a wink and turns towards the door. "Oh 1 last thing, if the Redcloaks were not running things who would be in charge here?"
Linene doesn't look up to respond to Beetle, still engrossed in her numbers, "In charge is a very loose term around here right now. Basically nobody but we have no government here so technically its the townmaster across the road as I said. But listen he's that intimidated by the Redbrands, he just lets them get away with everything, he's really not worth the effort at all. He's just a useless waste of space that Wester." Briefly she looks over at the duo as they head for the door, "See ya later handsome! Visit me some time if you ever need anything!"
Maybe we should discuss some of this with Syna and Beetle. It sounds like nobody knows where the mine is located. We may need to try to track down Gundren back near the ambush site to see if he knows anything about the mine. We could also see what they think about looking into this Daran character and see what he might know.
Syna turns to Beatle as they leave, "An informative encounter. But if the Goblins are not in this area, I hope the trail has not grown too cold to follow"
Serak: Agreeing that it's time to regroup, he leaves the trading post with Zyltris to find the others and tell them what was discovered.
Shaking Barthen's hand once more, Serak says, "Forgive my rudeness, sir. I am Serak the Skald, at your service and this is Zyltris. We thank you for your assistance and we'll let you know what we discover.

Zyltris and Serak head back towards the square to meet the others.
Barthen shows them out of the store "Best of luck on your travels my friends. If Gundren or his brothers turn up I'll surely let them know you were here. If you're looking for somewhere to stay the night the Stonehill Inn will be able to put you up. I'll be open from sunrise if you or your comrades need any supplies. Goodnight to you both"
Barthen locks the door again and leaves the store. He trudges slowly to his cabin behind the store. The news that Zyltris and Serak brought him clearly weighing heavy on his mind.
The empty town square is quiet now. Night has descended onto the small mining village. The only noise emanates from the large inn situated on the squares corner. Beetle and Syna approach from the south of the square and meet Zyltris and Serak.
"How did you guys make out with the wagon delivery? Syna and myself spoke to a woman named Linene. She says there hasn't been any goblin sightings or trouble here in the town. She did say though that the town has been taken over by a group referred to as the Redbrands who are basically thieves and bullies and the townmaster Westor has just given into them and lets them run wild. I told her we would discuss it and if we can help them out we will. They can usually be found hanging out at the inn."
"We too heard of the Redbrands. Barthen suggested looking for someone named Daran at the Stonehill Inn for more information. He also gave us our pay." Zyltris shares the pouches destined for Beetle and Syna. "We were also told that Gundren and his brothers had not been through here in awhile. They apparently had found the old mine but Gundren did not share this with anyone. It appears that the only way we will know where this mine is would be for us to go back and try to find Gundren. He may still be back near where the goblins attacked us. Barthen also mentioned he will be open again at sunrise if we need supplies. He does not carry weapons or armor though, just provisions, ropes, etc. It seems from what we've all learned that a night at the inn might do us all some good, both physically and finding out more information."
"Well I think a night rest would be great at this point, but 1st thing in the morning we may have to head to find Gundren if all agree. Then maybe after we can come back and help this town with it's corruption problem."
OOC: was the pay 10g for the party or each so I can update my sheet.
Serak: Looking a bit sheepish, Serak says, "So... I may have been a little goblin-paranoid after almost being cut in half by one. It seems the town is safe and there are no workers at the dig site yet, so no danger there either."
"At least the cart is secure and we can travel unencumbered. If we wish to help this town with their gang problem... well, let's just say I know the type. Shall I have a game of cards with them tonight and learn about them? When we return heroes after saving Rockseeker, we can deal with the gang with his support as a known figure in the community."

“Cards is a good idea. We may learn more if we split up in the inn. Barthen was not too trusting of us elves at first. Perhaps a group asking about the mine together will cause some issues.”
“Tread lightly though my friends, we are still a bit weary from our earlier with the goblins and the inn is known to be littered with the Redbrands” Beetle reminds everyone.
Serak: With a mischievous grin, the bard approaches the Inn with the party. He'll look for a card game or start one of his own. He'll attempt to befriend members of the Redbrands by buying a round of drinks. He plans to intentionally lose while attempting to intoxicate the gang with the 10gp he earned and learn what he can from them.

OOC: If no actual encounter happens when we enter the Inn, I'm cool with not roleplaying the card game to speed things along. Just looking for basic info that could be brought up in casual conversation while somebody talks to that Daran guy. Then call it a night and set out at dawn?
