Serak: Pondering the situation, the bard says quietly, "Lowering a rope is a good idea. I'll keep the goblin on the bridge distracted and cover him with my crossbow while you all climb up. Once you're all up I'll follow. Then the lever is no longer an issue."
"Syna, think you could convince your new wolf friends to turn on their masters if you free them?"

OOC: I'm unclear on if the goblin has line of sight on the slope we'll be climbing up. Beetle said he wouldn't be able to see us climb, but the map shows he'll see us cross the stream and also while we climb. Or does the ceiling and stalagmites block his view or something? So I'll still cast minor illusion to distract him like I stated, if he has line of site. At the very least it will cost the goblin a round investigating to determine the bridge really isn't breaking.

OOC: Yes you are correct I think, it is possible the bridge goblin could see us climb, a distraction will still be needed, but my main point was there is really no way to climb right to the bridge, you have to go under it and around or climb up to the fire pit and go around. Climbing up I think is the better option unless we have another sleep spell I don't see a way we would be able to walk under it even if he gets distracted for a bit. Climbing into the fire pit area though takes away the water threat if we can make it before the lookout notices.
OOC: Yeah you're right I looked at the map again. Better if we all get to high ground, especially if he can't see us.
I think I'll need to save my last spell slot. I thought Speak With Animals was a cantrip too, or I wouldn't have been suggesting it so much. lol Sorry Syna! If we can free those wolves it'd be a hell of a distraction and totally worth it though.

OOC: Take a look at the cave plan on post #272. Take it that the goblin stands on the middle of the bridge and can only see the streamed portion of the cave. The western passage is likely to be ok as the cave wall blocks his vision. Getting to that point is the issue
Beetle lets everyone know he is ready..."Our goblin captive said the wall is climbable up to the fire pit. I think that is our best bet at the moment, having Zyltris climb it and lower a rope for the rest of us. Hopefully we can do it without the bridge lookout seeing us, and from the drawing there is a small stretch of cave before the fire pit once up there so hopefully he can climb it and there are no goblins right there at the top."
OOC: Sorry for the delay. I have been casting as a ritual, so it doesn't use slots, but takes 10 min.
Syna looks at his companions, "I am sure of the wolves, but I will release one. Be ready friends." Syna then releases Amarok. "You are free to return to the wood, or to take revenge against the goblins," he says to the wolf. "Can you now convince the pup?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Amarok, the older of the wolves, glances up at Syna as he is released.
"You have my thanks man flesh. I am afraid my lust for blood and revenge is waning in my age. Without a pack behind me I am largely useless in a fight, and I don't believe my friend here will be the kind of ally you're expecting. He has lived his life here, the goblins are his only masters" Amarok growls at the younger wolf, still snarling and pulling at his chain "Me next man flesh! Unchain me! I long for the taste of flesh too!".
Fenrir, the younger of the two, yanks his chain again. 10. The long iron spike holding the wolfs chain into the ground, is pulled about an inch out of the stone floor.
Serak: Ready for action with crossbow in hand, Serak readies his cantrip and says to the others, "Alright, once the wolves are free I'll distract the goblin on the bridge, but I can only guarantee he'll be distracted long enough for us all to cross the stream at the same time. We can take cover at the bottom of the slope, behind the wall, while Zyltris lowers a rope. Are we ready?

OOC: So just as a recap at this point... Zyltris is ready to climb up by the fire pit, Serak is ready to make a distraction for him with the goblin on the bridge if necessary, and Syna freed 1 wolf, the other is pulling on the chain and got a 20 (not sure what that means yet) and Beetle is ready to help wherever needed.
Just putting it out there - I’m currently waiting to see what Syna is planning to do with the second of the wolves, and Zyltris/Serak to decide on their moves so I can roll on their detection/ climbs/ etc
Not that I’m being impatient, we’ve just stalled a little over this section
OOC: Sorry, seems like we over complicated this one a bit. Just waiting to see what happens with the wolves. Then Serak will do what I stated earlier. First he'll use Bardic Inspiration on Zyltris, then he will Sneak, peak around the corner just enough to cast Minor Illusion on the bridge, making it sound like it is creaking and starting to break. When the goblin is distracted he'll signal the others to cross the stream as quietly as possible.

OOC: That’s fine, thought you might have been waiting on the wolves - a bit of a chain reactions built up over them now. Just a checking I wasn’t holding anything up and not realised!
Zyltris will attempt to climb once the group has crossed the river
OOC: Just a heads up that I’ll be driving the next couple of days so will only likely be able to check first thing in the morning and later in the afternoon.
OOC: No problem. I’ll see how far I can take this to get us moving.
Amarok tries to calm the snarling youngster.
Amarok bares his teeth at Fenrir.
Amarok Intimidation check: 0
“Be still you fool,”Amarokbarksout “These friends are here to free us of our slavery. While you may not know the joys of running free, I assure you it is a greater life than any satisfaction you’ll receive from attacking these men!”
Fenrir is not listening. He is too preoccupied with the prospect of a meal before him. His teeth are fully bared, gums whitened with foam.
Fenrir strength check: 19
Once more Fenrir pulls hard at his chain, but this encounter and his starvation have taken its toll. The spike fixing him to the cave floor holds firm for now.
The elder wolf turns back to Syna, remorseful.
“My apologies friend, but I cannot convince a mind so badly corrupted by bloodlust and violence. I’m afraid I can do no more for him. You have shown me a great kindness today, for that I am thankful.”
Amarok makes his way out of the chamber. His ears prick up as sunlight touches his long black face. A twitch of his nose and he disappears instantly back into the wild.
At the entrance to the wolf chamber, the band regroup. Serak approaches Zyltris and casts Bardic Inspiration on him.
”We’re counting on you my friend. Be strong!”
The bard carefully glances into the cave depths and casts Minor Illusion. Further up the dimly lit path, the sound of a creaking bridge grows louder. Weak wooden boards groan. Ropes snap.
Goblin investigation check: 4 vs Serak Spell Saving throw 13
Goblin skill check: 19
The slow lapping water splashes gently against the path as the party creeps forward. The path begins to climb steeply. In the shadows of the ceiling to the north, above them the dim shape of a rickety bridge of wood and rope crossing over the passage. It creaks and groans wildly, but the goblin is nowhere to be seen in the gloom.
Quietly crossing the stream they make it to the embankment. It is a steep and treacherous climb. Two rough, boulder hewn cliffs, seperated by a ledge of very loose looking smaller stones. The ledge is perfectly balanced and appears as if it could collapse any moment.
Bit of a problem with dice manipulation, but its resolved now finally. Trying to put this together on a phone screen isn't easy!
I can change any of the above if anyone’s unhappy with how events went above.
This takes us up to the following:
Amarok has left the cave, Fenrir is still chained and now exhausted.
Beetle, Serak and Syna are out of sight beside the Wolf chamber, waiting to move forward. Seraks spell has not affected the goblin.
Zyltris has made his way to the bottom of the west passage and is deciding whether to climb.
Serak: Pondering the situation, the bard says quietly, "Lowering a rope is a good idea. I'll keep the goblin on the bridge distracted and cover him with my crossbow while you all climb up. Once you're all up I'll follow. Then the lever is no longer an issue."
