Their boots squelched in the mud and roots as they trudged on, wary eyes looking at the large creature that seemed to pass behind tree after tree. The chill in their spines faded as they got further and further away, doing their best to make distance from any creature that thrives in the untamed wild.
They made good speed, even with the rain flooding their way. The whole floor was like a lazy river, perpetually flowing downward towards the shore many of them had come from. This wasn’t nearly as tasking however, as watching the suns’ light drift slowly down the canopy.
Nightfal would be soon, and it clearly made at least the half elf nervous.
The days traveled was exhausting. Asphodels feet ached as he pushed on. "Remind me - how far did you say the trip was? A day and a half?" He asks the half elf.
“I mean, they said it was a days ride. On foot. . . A day or two? I suppose we made some good time miss—SIR.” The man said looking outward to where Trinity had last pointed out the trail.

"Do you think our quarry will stop for the night to rest or push on in hopes of putting more distance between us and them?" Katznii asks, wiping a slick film of glittery sweat and rainwater from his brow.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
"I'm not familiar enough with the beast that follows us to say, but I can take a look, see if it is still on our trail."
Makani pipes in, before looking to the canopy, Identifying an area lightest of cover and then flying up and through it with a swift beat of his wings, strong enough to send the water cascading off his feathers.
"Glad to know whether or not our backs are safe." He watches Makani fly. "Do they know we're chasing them? Unless whatever they're doing is a timed thing - safe to assume they plan on having some beauty sleep. Not that it'll help them." He snickers.
Ria sighs, batting a bug out of the air as her eyes follow Makani's flight. "No idea if they know, but they did see a lot of people abruptly coming out of the forest and attacking them, so they probably aren't feeling too leisurely." She turns an annoyed look on the half-elf. "How likely are they to stop for the night?"
The half elf man hesitated, bumbling over a couple roots hidden in the depths. “Well, the plan was to get to the several doors in, I think they said there were three entrances. They’d camp there and start the day trying to unlock those doors. I suppose they’ll use that abomination of a creature since they uh, lost...” His eyes looked to Ria and away. “They’ll trudge through, Fang wouldn’t want to hesitate. Ambitious man, he is.”

As Makani lifts off the ground, trying to get enough force to resist his heavier soaked frame, his view increased. Though the heavy clouds covered much of the canopy, Makani still managed to see in the late hour. Nothing dangerous caught his view, but in the pockets of cloud, a warm light faintly glowed among the tropic landscape.

Kathleen looked up at the cloudy night sky. She runs her hands against her long and wet hair and shakes it to get rid of some of the excess water. Then, as if to demonstrate the redundancy of the previous action, she uses Prestidigitation to dry herself.
Asphodel looks puzzled for a moment. His features suddenly brighten as he walks up behind the half elf. He puts both hands on each of his shoulders then leans into his ear. "Hey there hunty, so tell me a little something would ya? What was my give? How did you know?" He asks completely enthralled. Asphodels aim is to startle him.
Ria flicks a finger over her hair, drying it for the hundredth time today. She frowns and, flatly ignoring Asphodel's antics, asks, "Are we resting or pressing on?"
Katznii as well gives a sigh; this one a sigh of slight relief for a temporary end to this jungle trudge, and begins going about blocking off a campsite and arranging stones for a fire that would hide much of their camp's light from their prey ahead and any curious dinosaurs still behind. It was much like his time camping in the mountains on trips between dispirit villages, except wetter, and the dangerous fauna was much bigger than your average yeti.
"If one of you spell-weavers would be kind enough to help dry out some wood for the fire, that would be helpful. While the smoke might clear some of these pesky bugs, I'd hate to see what larger things too much of it might attract."

Kathleen responds to Ria, "Resting might be a good idea. No sense charging into a battle exhausted."
Ria doesn't look happy, but nods. She sighs and leans against a tree, falling silent and looking thoughtful.
