You feel a darkness swirl inside of you and bang around in your guts. Your vision clouds and your mouth fills with smoke, but the moment passes, the darkness does not find purchase, and you are unharmed.
The shadow creature screams in frustration and pain, and descends through the trap door. Barnaby can still see it through the opening; it didn't get far. But it's on the second floor now.
Also, that would have been a veeeeery good time to remember you had inspiration. Don't forget, people!
Everybody is up.
Oh yeah. Inspiration...I totally would have used that. :~P
The creature, barely hanging on, finally collapses onto the floor. You hear a door slam, as the older girls (you suspect) shut the door to keep the creature out of the nursery.
Lucento, still reeling from the shadow creature’s attack, walks behind Kif toward Felix, and attempts to gauge the boy’s reaction to the events: Insight (19).
Thanks Barnaby, beat me to it. While Barnaby searches Kif is going to pick up Felix and, making sure the knife and doll are well clear, try and get him downstairs
The only magical aura in the area is the locket, which is exuding a strong magical aura. I'm assuming it's closed and in your pocket. Please let me know if that is correct.
edit: I'll note that you do get the expected magic auras off of your own equipment, like Kif's axe. We can just take that as a given in the future, unless I say otherwise.
Yes. Closed and in my pocket. Presumably my high perception found nothing on the room either. Alright gentlemen, let’s take this poor boy downstairs and make sure everyone else is okay. I suppose this hasn’t really brought us closer to finding the grave digger child.

Milivoj is the grave digger child. You found him. He’s unconscious on the first floor.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
We have the grave digger kid, but not the bones we're after or why they were stolen to begin with. Seeing how Milo is in a coma and fading maybe, like Felix who fell unconscious as soon as the demon left him, he was possessed by the smoke a-hole we just carved up. Would something unholy be able to handle holy objects if they were possessing an innocent? no my area of experience
For the sheer joy of rolling virtual dice I'm going to roll a religion check (if arcana is better the modifier is the same) I'm also going to use inspiration for advantage 19
Kif has some familiarity with the arcane, just because he is well-traveled and magic in various forms is often used in warfare.
Kif recalls a cabal of wizards that would try - normally but not always unsuccessfully - to summon and to trap interplanar creatures. When successful, the creature would be (1) summoned but also (2) chained to the object in some way. The creatures were often unhappy with being bound, and would escape if they could. It is possible that this locket is such an item for this creature, and it is attempting to break its chains somehow.
Judging by what you've gathered about Felix - that he came to the orphanage with the locket in his possession already - and the creature's response to Barnaby, it is reasonable to suspect that possession of the locket makes a person particularly likely to be "possessed." Finally, you might also deduce that possessing a person is not enough for the creature to break the locket's grip on it.

I'm going to run up to the trap door and ready an attack in case the big bad comes within reach
If needed 24 attack for 14
You sit it down there, on the floor below. It is not immediately within reach.
Oh yeah. Inspiration...I totally would have used that. :~P
Barnaby will peak over Kif's shoulder, We must stop it before it gets to the children! Chase it down!
Three motes of energy emerge from Barnaby's outstretched finger tips and swerve back and forth homing in relentlessly on their target.
Magic missile damage: 3 + 4 + 3
The creature, barely hanging on, finally collapses onto the floor. You hear a door slam, as the older girls (you suspect) shut the door to keep the creature out of the nursery.
Barnaby raises his tiny hands and jumps a tiny jump. Woohoo!
Kif turns around
Nice shooting, Barnaby, now, what's up with Felix, let's get him downstairs
hoping he doesn't see a doll coming at them with a kitchen knife 18 (perception)
We should also keep an eye on the carcass of that stinky bad guy
I'll take the body, go for the kid. Føpé climbs down and looks over the body. perception: 12
heading for the kid, what do I see
Lucento, still reeling from the shadow creature’s attack, walks behind Kif toward Felix, and attempts to gauge the boy’s reaction to the events: Insight (19).
Felix is slumped in the chair, unconscious but not otherwise harmed. As far as you can tell.
The shadow creature is not fleshy, and is slowly dissipating into the surrounding air. It smells of acrid smoke.
Barnaby will search the attic for anything missed. Perception: 21
Thanks Barnaby, beat me to it. While Barnaby searches Kif is going to pick up Felix and, making sure the knife and doll are well clear, try and get him downstairs
After his search Barnaby will ritually cast detect magic to check the doll, knife, and Ari’s for auras.

Perhaps the boy knows something, once he comes to we can question him
