Barnaby: Gentlemen, we’ve done well, but I need to ease up for a moment if we’re able (short rest please), and from from the looks of him, so does Brother Chubs.
Chubs: You are so wise Barnaby.
While the party decides on the short rest, Barnaby will begin ritually casting detect magic for a sweep of the room, and Chubs will take a look around the room and inspect the Druid. Perception: 16
DM: Please confirm that we’re heading into the evening. Assuming we are... Barnaby turns his head and stares out into the fading light.
I think we’re going to be spending the night here. Wouldn’t want to be on the road much later than this and we’ve a long journey. Would be nice though, if we could clear this place out and be here as guests of its proper owners. I know I’d sleep better. Barnaby pulls a pipe and tobacco from his cloak and begins preparing a smoke.
Well, you know that there were many blights outside that you have not accounted for, and your barricade was temporary (and not the only door). Do as you please, though.
Lucento, you took the full 12 points of damage and fell down, but are otherwise unharmed. The party is out of combat.
Barnaby notices that this cultist's staff is thicker, more gnarled, and darker than the others. In fact, it is black.
When the ritual is complete and Barnaby can detect magic in the room, he does, in fact, detect an aura around the staff. You give it some time, and discern the nature of the magic is Conjuration.
Barnaby’s eyes grow large as he started at the staff. He would like to spend the short rest familiarizing himself with it. Arcana check before he starts for good measure: 15
With that Arcana check, Barnaby gets the sense that he's examining something that is primitive and highly specialized. He does not think he will be able to bend it to his will, nor does he get the sense that he'd be particularly pleased with the results, if he did.
Hey Mr. Lucento, during a short rest we are able to use hit dice to heal ourselves. Your character sheet, center near the top, shows what you have for hit dice each day. What the die is is based on your class (d6 for wizard and d8 for cleric as examples) and then you add your constitution modifier each time you roll it. You start with as many hit dice as your character has level (we are level 4, so we each get 4). When you take a long rest you recover half of your maximum hit dice (so for now, you recover 2 hit dice during a long rest). All this is to say, if we are granted a short rest by the almighty DM, we will use hit dice and you can save your spell for later use when it is needed. As a side note, I believe you also recover your channel divinity ability during a short rest assuming that you've used it.
If we are granted the short rest, Barnaby will roll the following hit dice: 5, 8 and he will recover one 2nd level spell slot (wizard ability: arcane recovery)
and Brother Chubs: 7, 5
Edit: Chubs will roll one more: 7
Edit 2: So, if we are granted the short rest, both characters are at full health, Chubs has one hit die remaining and Barnaby has two.

Was the magic in the room just that of the staff?
Barnaby will again ritually cast detect magic allowing him to see auras for the next 10 minutes. So at least the dining room and probably the next few rooms after that if we don't dawdle. I looked back some at the previous posts, but I can't really figure out where we haven't been, though I believe there's probably quite a few places still, I'm guessing both on the first and second floors. Can you sort of lead us to the closest spot that we haven't been yet?
I’ve already added the staff to our party loot to be dealt with later. Barnaby will fashion a strap with some rope to carry it on his back. Realizing it’s too long and it will only get in the way, Brother Chubs, I’ve made this sling, would you mind carrying the staff until we are able to figure out what it is?
Chubs takes the staff, feels it’s weight in his hand, and gives it a twirl. Huh. He sheathes his short sword and tries a few feinting attacks. A smile shows at the edges of his mouth. Yep, I got it.
yeah, I used it
Con Save: 3
Certainly correct for Barnaby and Chubs.
Barnaby Con Save: 20
Chubs Con Save: 19

Short rest would be good indeed, esp if we need to do some more brush hogging to get out of here

Lucento utters an incantation and a wave of light washes over himself and his companions (Casting Prayer of Healing)
HP regained by party: 13 +4 (Disciple of Life).

I see! Thanks Barnaby. DM, please ignore Lucento's prior action, he was hallucinating from the shock of the cultist's spell.
Sounds good. You enjoyed the benefits of a short rest. What’s next?

You don't detect any other magic. What do you do with the staff?
4 10 burning some hit die

Let’s go open some doors
