Barnaby will use his racial ability that allows him to communicate ideas to small animals. The point he is trying to get across is ‘Hi.’ He will do this with a small wave and a few quiet cluckings of the tongue against the roof of his mouth. He hopes they get the subtext, “please don’t eat us, follow us, or otherwise creep at us.”
He will then turn and follow his friends toward Barovia.
Edit: After further review, it appears that I can have a two way exchange of simple ideas with small or smaller beasts. With that in mind, Barnaby will pause briefly to see if there is a response prior to picking up the clothes and heading down the road.
You would ordinarily expect some kind of a response, but all you're getting is nervousness. When you approach within 20 feet, they draw deeper into the woods, and they don't let you get closer than that. Rather than chase them into the woods, you rejoin your friends in the meadow and move on. . .
Puddin, you creep past a few houses, going up to windows and slinking near doorways. You get the sense that some of these houses might be occupied, and some probably are not. Some smell of death and decay, and you think it's likely they are not occupied. Though that doesn't necessarily mean they're empty. Do you want to press further into the village, or act on that information?
You are still in view of Kif and Barnaby, as Barnaby explains a number of theories for how the Needle Blights might be animated by a sufficiently powerful wizard. You can press on, if you want, but I wanted to offer this opportunity to do something first. Talk to them; don't talk to them. Whatever you want.
You've passed a few houses. You can go north or continue east. Both have houses on both sides of the street, though you would guess that east is the main road through town. Or you can act based on what you've already learned about the houses you've passed.
Kif, you suspect that some of these houses, at least, are genuinely unoccupied. You've only walked a couple of blocks so far, and there may be a tavern somewhere in town. You can't tell from where you are.
I paused you guys at this intersection, while you're still in sight of each other and you (and Puddin) have gathered a bit more information, before you decide which way to go, or whether you want to try to take shelter in a house you're already near.
Kif is going to move towards one of the more unoccupied looking places, hopefully Barnaby comes along. He is keeping Puddin's form in sight the best he can. He is going to hang outside the building as he doesn't fancy clearing a place with just Barnaby to help. I am looking for more public buildings
You can do that, if you want. I don't want to discourage you from knocking on a door, and I'm not making promises one way or another what will happen if you do. I just want to point out it's an option, in case nobody has considered it.
You are finding it quite difficult to keep Puddin in sight. Her small form is difficult to see, in the shadows at night.
I'm not sure Barnaby is with me and like I said I'm a little reluctant about going into a building alone. If I see a likely looking public building I'm going to go up to the door and see what I can see
While her 2 companions are still in sight, she goes up to one of the houses and bangs loudly on the door.
Puddin grows concerned that Barnaby does not have his wits about him, in this strange and spooky place, so she swings into action.
Puddin knocks on a door, and hears a muffled cry from inside the house. Now that she is at this particular door, she hears murmuring from inside. It sounds like more than one adult voice, and at least two children, as well.
You can either take action at this doorway, or move on to a different house, or leave the houses alone and push deeper into the village. If you do, please let me know if you would like to go north or east.
“Um, hello?! Is anyone here!?!”
If There is a response, Barnaby will warmly introduce the group and inquire about a tavern or any place(s) to get food, ale, and beds.

There is no response. Wet cobblestones, dark houses which may or may not even be occupied, and distant wailing.
Search for a tavern?
Investigation? 5
Hey Kif and Barnaby -- you guys find a tavern and lay low. I would like to snoop around the town and see if I can find anything while undercover.
Stealth: 5
She begins creep among the houses and carefully peer into windows.

Blue: Hot damn, how come I can’t roll like that?
It's the luck of the rock gnome, you forest dweller you! :)
the frizzy hair helps her blend into the background and muffles the sound
With everything looking fairly lifeless do we see any likely place to hole up

Come on Barnaby, stick close and keep the noise down...things aren't right here

Understood

Barnaby will support Kif in his thoughts of camping in an unoccupied house, but waiting for Pudding before entering.
Edit: Pretend those words were spoken by a sober person.
Puddin grows concerned that Barnaby does not have his wits about him, in this strange and spooky place, so she swings into action.

Barnaby will tuck his flask back inside his robes. In a stage whisper towards the others, “This place gives me the willies.”
After hearing the children, Puddin decides to call out, "Hello? Anyone home?"
The muffled voices grow quiet.
You can either take action at this doorway, or move on to a different house, or leave the houses alone and push deeper into the village. If you do, please let me know if you would like to go north or east.
Barnaby will look to the others, deferring to their judgement. Meanwhile he is clutching his shoulder bag tightly to his chest.
