”I require Miss Yagra to be conscious. I must report this to the Watchful Order. After which, I will continue to help Lady Ira; as ever.”
Aegis’s orbs create a light effect similar to the eyes here 😊.
”Thank you Master Standobras.” Aegis gets closer to Yagra as she comes back to consciousness “Miss Yagra, this is Aegis of The Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors. Please explain why you were attacked as best as you can.”
A gentle bell rings to indicate he is logging the information internally.
Sorry to disappoint you Doc but Standobras is not hitting on Gaz, he's simply a really nice guy. That said, you did just see him jump into combat without hesitation so, although he's a genuine nice guy, he can definitely handle himself when the situation calls for it.
"Ugggh hells," Yagra grumbles as she comes to consciousness. She'll nod at Standobras seeing the divine energy from the healing dim, "Thanks."
She'll meet Aegis' eyes with a bewildered look. "Didn't think the Watchful order gave a damn about bar brawls. Just a bunch of ******** I've never seen before who wanted to pick a fight." She will make her way over to the bar and call for a drink.
At Aegis' words, Standobras will turn to Ira and say; well sister, what are you waiting for, take us to see Goodman Geddarm post haste! There's a poor soul that is in dire need of rescuing, let us tarry no longer.
Snapping out of her blind state of focus, Standobras can see two pieces of parchments madly scribbled in [Primordial if you know it]/a strange language. "I'm sorry, when you suggested co-authorship of a potential treatise or publication ideas started to pop into my head that simply needed to be written down." she stashes the pieces of parchment into her leather slung bag and slowly puts the ink and quill away.
"Where were we? Oh yes to Master Geddarm!" she shakes her head a little before confidently striding back towards and up the stairs to the third floor.
You all make your way back upstairs and inform Volo that you are willing to help. Delighted, he relays to you the information he has:
Volo and his friend Floon Blagmaar were out drinking two nights ago at a tavern in the Dock Ward called The Skewered Dragon located between Net Street and Fillet Lane.
Volo left before midnight, but Floon stayed out to continue drinking. That was the last time Volo saw him. He has also discovered that Floon never made it home that night.
Floon is a human man in his early thirties. Volo describes him as handsome, very richly dressed, with reddish brown hair.
He is paying each of you 10GP up front to look for Floon, and promises each of you a hundred ten times that if you find Floon and bring him back.
"If you have any questions, please ask away. I will most willingly and gladly share anything I can." (As he says this, he hands each of you a pouch with 10gp so go ahead an add that to your inventory.)
Game & Gaz- Because you are from the Dock Ward you have heard of the Skewered Dragon and know where it is (Up to you if you've ever been there.) You also know that sometimes people with money will go 'Slum It' at rough bars in the Dock Ward for fun. The Dock Ward inhabitants mostly find this irritating... but the tavern keepers won't say no to the coin these rich folk bring. If they aren't careful, someone might relieve them of their purses when they aren't looking- but you'd have to be really confidant, stupid, or both to do anything violent to a wealthy merchant or somebody who, Gods forbid, turns out to be a noble's kid.
Game found himself disappointed as there was no loot to pilfer, and with nothing shiny to get. The Tavern was getting active again and would make it hard for him to find anything. Pocketing what snacks he did find in his pouch he kept on his waste. And would move off to the railing to watch the tavern go about. Seeming to ignore Aegis when commanding him and giving Gaz an odd look when he ran off.
After awhile he got bored, and then hear the elven woman making the same strange womanly noises the women from the “Grown Up,” building made. All while talking to the strange older man. With a very, peculiar look Game would move over and sit directly across from Volo and just stare at the man. He was obviously important… in so, Game wanted to gather all the details he could for Wol when he returned.
Perception:10
Though he felt he wasn't getting all the details, but the man seemed pretty much like the average strange rich old man... maybe some gold on himwhy would the elf lady be freaking out? There Game waited and waited until everyone was gathered once more, and a pouch with ten gold was provided to him. He tried his best to hide the fact of what he saw.
Deception:21
Locking his emotions into the same curious state he always did as best he could, trying to play it off as if the shinys caught his eye more then he knew the worth. But he still pocketed it all the same. Then he heard the fact he could get… 100 times 10… carry the 6… drop the 7…. Add the Gaz slobbering on his coins, and remove the weirdly flirty half-elf man who liked to flirt with kids, and that came out to be…. 1000 gold?! Sweet mother of Waukeen… wouldn’t Wol be impressed… well if he returned before the late hour… he might get in trouble if it goes beyond the late hour.
He wouldn’t wait for anyone else to start asking questions, he spoke up. Going through the questions Wol constantly drilled him on when he wanted Game to find a specific person to swipe from, or if he wanted Game to give him information on people Game saw.
“Any other distinguishing featurrres? Any injurrries? Does he tend to have favorrrite place to hang out?
Vas zerrre prrretty lady, in brrright clothing konstantly botherrring him? If so… vas it elf in rrred drrress? Ve might need to take him to clerrric if it vas her, least zat’s what dock vorrrkerrrs say…
If you kan rrremember zat night, do you rrremember any details about people in taverrrn? Anyone seem off to you? Anyone seem shady?”
I'd say that Gaz has probably been there or has at least dumpster dived there before.
Also I wouldn't say he was slobbering on his coins but he was more than glad to get them and the promise of even more coin made the goblin think that this was a day well spent, bizarre as it was; "Do you know if he had any enemies or if somebody held a grudge against him? Did he perhaps look at anyone the wrong way? How powerful was he, and I don't mean in the influential political way, I mean if he was able to produce a firestorm from his fingertips or something like that?"
After the others’ questions have been addressed, Standobras will look at Volo and say; Goodman Geddarm, first, thank you for this opportunity and entrusting us with this task. Second, while I can appreciate your desire to see your friend returned safely, I can’t help but be somewhat skeptical as to the amount promised upon Floon’s return. Now, by my count, you’ve promised us each 1,000 dragons for successful completion, an amount that I find quite exorbitant for such a task. So, to my mind, either you’re leaving something out or you are making promises you can’t keep. Which is it? And do keep in mind who my sister and I are while you ponder this. All the while, Standobras is scrutinizing Volo for signs. Insight check 10.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Listening to all these questions and taking notes on another sheet of parchment for future reference, Ira addresses Volothamp, "Now when we first spoke, your eyes already told me you were offering more than you had, which is fine, it's not the first time someone has promised more than they had to spare, but for the ... peace of mind, of my companions, a realistic sum or full disclosure of information may be more helpful. Regardless of their choices after that, I still intend to make an inquiry, even if you have far less to offer than what you've promised."
She then looks at him giving her most honest smile. [Persuasion? check: 19]
( I typed that so wrong. He is offering you 10 times what he's already paid. Not 100. That is a DM mistake. He's offering 100gp to each of you if you find his friend and bring him back. )
BUT Ira has already sussed out from her first insight check that he might be promising more then he can pay soooo.... let me get all his responses ready.
Answering Game first, "Distinguishing features? Hmm... He has a mole on the back of his left hand. No injuries when last I saw him. There are other places he frequents, but I already checked those and he hasn't been around. And no- I think I would have noticed if a woman of that description was hanging about. There wasn't anyone I noticed paying us any mind. Mostly sailors and dock workers."
For Gaz's questions, "He didn't have enemies. He's a very genial fellow. Not the uh... sharpest chap if you know what I mean but very good natured and charming. And he doesn't have anything in the way of magical or martial skill."
As Standobras and Ira start to question him more about payment, he fidgets a little and wrings his hands. "Well I don't exactly have the funds in hand at the moment, but I will. I'm awaiting royalties from my latest book," He will smile at Ira's friendly countenance, "I'm sure you know how it is. But all of you will be compensated if you aid me. I swear it on my name and my reputation."
Standobras - Volo is pretty easy to read. Like your sister, you also pick up on the fact that he might be exaggerating what he can pay. But, you can also tell that he is being truthful about the money he's expecting and that he honestly intends to make sure you are compensated for helping him find Floon.
Satisfied with Volo's answer, Standobras will say; Well, I think that we have enough to go on, wouldn't you all agree? If so then off we go! And he actually starts to get up.
Jackie; based on his knowledge of Waterdeep, does Standobras think that it would be advisable to swing by the family estate iot pick up his longsword? I seriously doubt he'd think he'll need his armor and shield but, if he does, he'd pick that up also. If so then he'll say he needs to pick up something at the estate and do his best to convince the party to do that. If not, then it's straight for the Dock Ward. Also, if they swing by the family estate he'll advise somebody he trusts among the servants of where he and Ira are going and why, including the names of the individual they're looking for and the places they'll start looking into (as well as who asked them to do so - Volo). If they don't go by the estate, he'll scribble that info on a piece of paper and go over to Durnan, asking him if he knows somebody here that could be entrusted to deliver the letter to the family estate for a fee and what that fee is.
Standobras would have heard rumors about outbreaks of gang violence in the city lately, but no one seems to know who is involved yet. The Dock Ward can be dangerous, but you know that someone would have to be very stupid or desperate to attack a Noble. It's up to you how cautious he is feeling. If you decide not to visit the estate, it's easy enough to send a message home to make them aware of what you are doing and where you are headed, just in case.
Stepping outside, it has stopped raining but the cobblestones are dotted with puddles. The sun is going down; members of the Lamplighter's Guild move down the street, and the glow of candle light starts to suffuse the streets.

"Wonderful, I think that's all we'll need!" Ira says with a smile, looking at Standobras. "I will however need to pick up some things. I wouldn't want to walk around at night with just my robes and a shortsword. A title is one kind of defense, but being slightly better equipped has been known to deter drunks from unseemly commentary." she notes, packing up her things again. When she's gotten up, she looks at Volothamp, "We'll find Floon, and failing that the least we'll find is clues to his whereabouts." she says, trying to make it sound reassuring. [Persuasion: 13]
She then looks at Standobras, "I haven't done this in a while, how well equipped should I be?"
"If we're going I need to make a stop as well, I left a couple of things at home that might be useful if there is no cutlery to be thrown, also, having a map could be useful and I got a good one."
Standobras quickly responds; Well, I do think that, considering the nature of our expedition, we should aim to keep a low profile so as not to draw unwanted attention. Trust me, if we go in all armored-up and bristling with weapons, word will quickly get around and it is far more likely to be detrimental than useful. That said, it would be unwise to venture into the Dock Ward at this hour completely unprepared. Therefore, here is what I propose; we go by the family estate and grab whatever gear think might be useful as long as it can remain unseen or, even better, appear to fit in. I myself will simply ask father if I may borrow one of his swordcanes or get one of Adelvarian's walking sticks. After that, as soon as we leave the North Ward, we should let Gaz take the lead on this.
Jackie; I'm taking some liberty here wrt the walking stick and swordcane, if that's a no go please correct me. I'm thinking a swordcane could use the same stats as a rapier while a walking stick would be the same as a club. I also just made up Adelvarian's name and if you're cool with it, I think he would be the family's senior buttler or majordomo or something.
