Thank you for the reminder. Yes, you feel a jolt to your sense. Mechanically, you get a +1 to all DEX-based rolls and -1 to all CON-based rolls for the next hour.
Jack once again moves forward, the flame diminishing greatly once it enters the deep shadows beneath the trees. The group follows with Anafrey in the lead. As each follows, stepping within the shadows of the trees, they feel not resistance, per se, but pass through a kind of invisible curtain. It does not hurt, but a few things happen as soon as they "enter": The air on the other side is cooler, the flame of Jack's torch once again looks like a normal flame combating the darkness by lighting up the ground and trees, and they can no longer hear the ebb and flow of the waves. The sea wind still blows through the trees.
Jack "walks" in a straight line north, only diverting to dodge a tree in "his" way. After only a short distance (Anafrey estimates it to be about 45 feet), she can see the flame is moving through the small clearing Maldorn pointed out from the peak. The trees are thick, so it was hard for her to see previously. And, she can't tell for sure, but she thinks there isn't as much sunlight in the clearing as there should be.
Right now, Anafrey is five feet from what she perceives as the edge of the smaller clearing. She can see shapes past the trees, but doesn't know what they are. She is 30 feet behind Jack, so Erric is 35, Anafrey is 40, Maldorn is 45, and Ebokk is 50. Ebokk has only been in the trees about 15 feet.
Would the change be consistent with night time? Darker, cooler? Or is it just materially different from the day we left, but not recognizably something else?

Anafrey would tilt her head just a bit as the trying to make out the shapes in the clearing. She would keep moving however, showing no hesitation as beads of sweat formed on her forehead.
As soon as Erric stepped into the "curtain" he would hop back out quickly to see if this was a one-way kind of thing. Assuming not, he keeps in line with the others, trying to make out the shapes in the clearing. He tries to stay behind one of the trees in concealment at the edge of the clearing and observes what is there, if the shapes are people or stones or what. He hefts his sling and readies a stone if there is a threat.
Erric, you can move freely within and without. Each passing, you feel the slight ... something that you can't put your finger on. But that ever so slight tingle you felt before that there was magic nearby — this is exactly what you were sensing.
Anafrey, as you reach the edge of the clearing, the trees part to reveal a clearing with lingering signs of a primitive camp, now long abandoned. The bare frame of an old hut stands crookedly nearby, now partially illuminated by Jack's torch, and a wooden bucket rests on the ground before you. As you survey the scene, a small band of skeletal creatures enters the clearing. With their hunched forms and sloping skulls. Though they don't look quite right, Jambiya is pretty sure they are of gnollish origin ... but twisted. They pause for just a couple seconds and then begin moving toward Jack's flame. They each carry a club, but they haven't yet taken an aggressive posture.
Jambiya you also chance a look upward. Despite the sizable gap in the canopy above, only about half as much light is entering the clearing as you'd expect. Clearly, the magic you passed through to enter the trees is also affecting the sunlight.
If Maldorn can see any of this, or if his companions pass the message along, he prepares an arrow to be shot the moment these strange undead creatures show aggressiveness towards the party:
Longbow vs. Skeletal Gnoll: Attack: 19 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. piercing.
So, the attack roll should be a 17 and the damage roll is actually an 8, due to the effects of the Aged Perique.
Also, rolling to see how many smokes I got from that Aged Perique bowl, as we did before: 3 (so, Maldorn should have 3 left after smoking one serving just now).
Where does the group of skeletons enter the clearing from? And about how many are we talking here? What kind of weapons? Erric is pretty sure they aren't friendly but is trying to see all he can to figure out what's going on. You said we can't hear the waves as much - do we hear anything else? Smell anything? And are there other animals in the clearing?
Erric starts thinking about the mirror dimension in Lord Whatsisname's house.
"What on earth are those?" Anafrey would ask with a look of confusion. She would glance down at her belt with a look of regret as she realized she had no hands free to hold her flask. "Want me to go out and say hello?" She would add.
Jambiya will count the gnolletons. She will hold her Eldritch Blast longer, for if one of them makes an aggressive move towards the party. She will respond to Anafrey in a low whisper, "I don't think they will be talkative, or friendly... let's see what they think of Jack."
OOC > Yes, if they surround Jack they will be within about 30' of us, which is dangerous, but Jambiya is an optimistic sort...

Erric whispers, "so what if I made an illusion of a dwarf that looks like a pirate holding the torch, to see how they react? Can we assume this is his lost crew? And something made them into skeletons? " He sighs. "Ebokk, is there any chance this beard ring is cursed?"
Erric casts minor illusion to make a pirate dwarf matching whatever vague description Ebokk's given of Flindbar. He places it, static as per the spell, in a position where it looks like it's holding the torch Jack is holding aloft. He tells Jack to pause the torch right where the dwarf image is holding its hand up like the Statue of Liberty.
The creatures came from the left (west), and there are half a dozen of them. They appear to be carrying clubs. You hear the wind rustling the leaves, sporadic movements like small animals, and other animal noises ... just not as much as before you entered the trees. It smells like nature.
It takes a little time for the group to decide what they're doing, so Jack is 45' into the clearing (about halfway) when the torch stops, rises a little, and then the image of a dwarf appears below it as if it is holding the torch. The gnoll skeletons (skeleton is a strong term for these — they're more like zombies, I guess) all hiss and rush at the dwarf.
Do you do anything before they reach Jack? They're about 20 feet away from "him".
Maldorn follows Jambiya, still smoking his pipe (any effects?). His bow is still in hand.

Consistent with night time is a good way to look at it!

Maldorn finishes smoking his pipe and puts it away. With his free hand (the other holds the bow), he draws an arrow in preparation.

"You can do that?" Maldorn whispers to Erric, impressed by the little bard's delicate command of illusions.
"Please do, Veric," Maldorn agrees to the plan. His bow is still ready to provide cover fire.

"I guess they are no friends of the dwarf then..." Maldorn concludes before releasing his arrow.
If anyone looks at the ranger surprised by his action, he justifies "They are aggressive and unnatural. We should not let them roam around freely."
(OOC: Attack rolled here.)
