The group pokes about. Whoever set up the camp abandoned it quite a while ago. There is the one frame of an old hut, but some other signs indicate there were some other smaller structures, but you're not sure of what. What wood is left is very weather stained and aged.

Ebokk walks about, taking everything in, but not really looking at anything too closely.

When the coast is finally clear, Anafrey would quickly scramble into the campsite... making her way into what was left of the ruins of the hut. "I think we should move quickly.. no telling when those things will return" She would whisper to her companions as she begins to investigate the site.
"Shall we follow those unnatural beast, master Xeric?" Maldorn confirms. "If so, I suggest we take our usual marching order with Ms. Icyshivers in the lead."
"Seems we should follow where they went? Or see if this dark clearing is just a circle and you go back to daylight on the other side? Let's just walk north toward where they went and see what we see. We're not going to learn anything by standing here." And Erric starts creeping along the path the zombie gnolls took, sling at the ready.
The group of gnoll zombies aren't moving very quickly, so you all catch up to them easily enough. You stay quiet enough to not catch their attention ... even Jambiya, whose stomach is gurgling embarrassingly. You follow behind as the creatures trudge through the trees. You follow them for 300 feet, and they begin to arc more north. It does appear that they are walking around the donut. Do you continue to follow?
(I've forgotten the map, sorry! Are the creepy trees, that we now know block light, in most of the center of the island? Or just a small clearing in the southern portion of it? Meaning are the gnoll zombies walking around inside the gloomy parts all around the island, or staying in a smaller portion of the island. Apologies, I'm confused...)
OOC: Maldorn led the group to the small clearing first, so this should be it.
Guessing that these creatures are doing some sort of mindless patrol around this long-gone encampment (Am I understanding this correctly?), Maldorn suggests to the group that they should make their way towards the larger clearing: "Let us go investigate those white rocks in the larger clearing."
OOC: There is a "donut" of trees around a large clearing in the center of the island where you all saw the small hills and white rocks. In the southern part of the ring of trees is the smaller clearing you just left.
The group heads northeast to stop following the gnoll zombies and head for the larger clearing at the heart of the island. After a short walk, the trees give way to a barren area filled with a cluster of old burial mounds. It is immediately clear that these barrows have been ransacked by previous visitors. Stone coffins embedded in the sides of each mound have been smashed asunder and shattered bones litter the ground.

Also do these coffins look like they have recently been smashed? Or are they coated in dust/dirt/settled age?
