Certainly. You could head north into the woods, angle around — still clockwise — and come back into the yard further south. But aren't you curious what it is?
Muttering something offensive about halfling bravery under her breath, Anafrey picks out a path that avoids the dangerous looking overgrown garden. "Let's hurry along then if it worries you, we'll fetch the others and search the building together after we make it back around."
Erric says, "Stop! I know we've had a weird day. I know I have not been extremely reliable in my tactical recommendations so far. I know we just had to kill man-crows in self defense. The barmaid is pew-pewing death out of her fingertips. The ranger may be inventing some new kind of blindsight archery. Things aren't normal.
"But Anafrey, do those plants look scary to you? Perhaps I shouldn't have eaten those goodberries. But before we get within, say, 60 feet of that garden, do you mind if I sling some stones at that foliage over there? Maybe it'll foil a big scary surprise and we won't get eaten by a shrubbery. Maybe it'll pockmark a burnt-up house. Worst thing that happens is I lose some stones and you think I'm even bigger a fool, which I don't see as being possible."
He loads a stone in his sling and looks at her, with a sort of resigned-but-crazed expression.
Anafrey looks at Erric, as she so commonly does, as if he is a daft buffoon. "Listen, you were the one who told me that the plants look dangerous. You go 'round slinging stones at everything that looks dangerous to you, you'll not only be a daft halfling, but a dead one. If you're worried about the plants, let's move so we can regroup with the others. We'll be better prepared if we face the dangerous bits together... 'leastwise that's what they always told me."

Maldorn taps Jambiya's shoulder:
"Yun' Ms. Seldom... hmm... may I still call you that or should I use some other preferred moniker?" He shakes his head.
"At any rate... I see something out of place under some debris in the front yard. Shall we investigate?" Maldorn will slowly make his way towards the light colored item. If Jambiya is coming with him, he will signal for her to take a wider arc so that they are not bunched together. If she is staying behind, he will nod and mouth over a "Cover me."
Maldorn will try to understand better what that item may be as he approaches, hoping that the diminishing distance reveals more details (perception: 25). If he can't or everything else remains the same, he gets closer and closer, arrow nocked.
As Maldorn approaches what he saw, he sees a slight breeze flip the edge of the piece of paper, and he realizes that is what it is. He also walks across and realizes within close proximity to each other are three sets of kenku tracks heading away from the house and four sets moving into the house. Finally, just before reaching the piece of paper, he notices another piece of paper very close to it, but more covered than the first. He picks them both up. They're the size of a medium-size book and appear to have been torn from such a book.
"Yun' Ms., ... hmm,... Jambiya, the contrasting colors I saw were pages off a journal. Here, read them over. Do you think the word specter was meant literally?"
"Most definitely," she looks over the pages. "It seems we've gone from rescue to 'put to rest.'" she says sadly. "We should find the others, and let them know." If Maldorn is willing, Jambiya will suggest they circle round the house the opposite way that Anafrey and Erric went, to run into them (rather than the same way, trying to catch up to them).

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Jambiya and Maldorn head around the house counterclockwise and catch up to Anafrey and Erric coming out of the woods behind the southeast corner of the house.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Erric is still looking bashful and being uncharacteristically quiet, glancing at Anafrey expectantly and abashedly.
He's otherwise been examining the outside of the house (visually) for any sign of life or disturbance or movement (investigation 11) and to try to figure out what may have happened with the fire. And looking very, very, very cautiously at any large vegetation.
Erric greets Maldorn and Jambiya with a distracted nod, waiting for Anafrey to speak. He's desperately trying to keep himself quiet and cool but the DC would be low on a check to figure out he's excitedly/nervously jumping out of his skin.
The minute Anafrey opens her mouth to begin speaking, he will start to do that thing where people kind of half-begin phrases as they watch the other person start to talk, speaking at the exact same time, and it's kind of rude and off-putting for the other person.
The phrases you can make out are: "...kind of a fool ...petrified halfling ...jumping at shadows ...should really stop drinking..." And then at the end of his little verbal self-sabotage, "...seen any scary plants?" (Picture this happening as Anafrey finally begins talking, or trying to talk to greet Maldorn and Jambiya.
Anafrey looks down at Erric for a brief second, before muscling through it.
"I thought you'd be waiting back at the front door." She waves a hand. "Nevermind. We saw some dangerous looking plants back the way we came, but cut through the woods to avoid them. Shall we return to the front and go through the door as civilized folk?" Anafrey suggests, pulling out her boot flask and shaking it with a disappointed look on her face.

Erric nods, hangs his head mutely, abashed, following behind Anafrey. It's the first time she has ever seen him not respond with words.

“Jambiya is fine, Master Whitehare. I’ve got you covered.” And she will ready an Eldritch Blast as he approaches the spot.

Do Erric and Anafrey finish their wide circuit around the house/garden?
Maldorn heads back towards Jambiya:
"Yun' Ms., ... hmm,... Jambiya, the contrasting colors I saw were pages off a journal. Here, read them over. Do you think the word specter was meant literally?"
Not yet, Erric. *best operator voice* Please hold.
