Would Erric have enough time for a short rest once he reached the bottom, settled in an alcove away from the stinkiest trash, and watched everyone descend? If so, he’d mentally compose a poem (more of a series of limericks) about an orc lass who outsmarted a group of elves by convincing them she was a giantess trapped in a new form and made them give her all their gold and chased them off her lands. He has his crossbow loaded and at the ready while he sits and rests and composes, looking and listening for movement or sound but doesn't hear anything.
If it’s been long and untaxing enough for a short rest, Erric recites his poem to Thrakk, while Ebokk is finishing his descent. Enthralling performance is DC 13 WIS save.
Once everyone gets down safely, Erric says, “I’m curious where the grimlocks might be, Thrakk. You said they’re quiet, do you have any memory of them, or what lies ahead in this tunnel, from your journeys here before? We’re here to help, so help us help you. Also how long ago do you reckon it was that they attacked your tribe? Now’s not the time to leave anything out, my friend.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: Either above or below, everyone would have had a short rest.
While waiting, Erric composes his poem and recites it as Ebokk is descending. (WIS save DC13: 7) Once again, Erric can sense that the magic has taken hold.
As Jambiya descends the hill of trash to walk down the small passage to find Thrakk (with Erric following closely behind), she asks her question. The orc, who is facing away from her turns his body so the little goblin girl can see past him.
The passage descends into a sprawling cavernous area, thick with fungal vegetation and aglow with the light of luminescent spores. A large pool of water fills a dip in the cavern floor, while a host of stalactites loom high overhead. The spores conceal almost as much as they illuminate, but it appears that some of the larger fungi are moving.
"Can you see?" Thrakk asks her.
Erric asks, “I’m curious where the grimlocks might be, Thrakk. You said they’re quiet, do you have any memory of them, or what lies ahead in this tunnel, from your journeys here before? "The grimlocks were that way," he says, pointing to the east. "But I don't know for sure how long ago it was that they attacked my tribe. My mind is not like it was before I traveled into the Underdark."
"Okay, that makes sense,"Erric says, eyeing the orc over again. "What's the story with the mushrooms? And the little dust floating around?"
Does he have any sense of what the big fungus situation might be? He quietly asks his more knowledgable friends if they've heard of anything like this, reminding them of the fungus they saw in the kitchen.
Anafrey would cover her mouth and nose with a bit of cloth in one hand while holding her mace in the other. "Should we be breathing this stuff in?" She would add nervously.. "it's like a glowing dust storm down here... It helps me to see but not very far... like shining a bullseye lantern into the fog." She would add as she swings her flail around a bit in the haze.. trying to dispurse some of the glowing spores.
Indeed, those without darkvision can see dimly in the space. As Anafrey steps out of the small alcove and begins swinging her weapon, a few of the larger funguses scurry away from her.
Jambiya is ready to proceed out into the cavern. As she goes, she will try to chat up any animals she sees, after discovering she can't talk to the fungus (plants, not animals, I bet), greeting them, asking how they are doing, and if they've seen any bigs like us recently. Erric matches Anafrey and covers his mouth with a scarf.
He looks at Thrakk. What is the orc wearing? Does he have a hat? Armor? Old clothes?
He sees the funguses run away and his little naive halfling mind jumps to what is probably the wrong conclusion.
"Hello? Mushrooms? Fungus? Can you hear us? We don't mean any harm. Don't be afraid. My name's Erric. We're looking for something that can help my friend here, who's in trouble. We're also looking for some grimlocks who were mean to this fellow. What happens if people like us walk through these spores? They're very pretty. This cavern is really stunning. I love what you've done with the place. Do you like music?"
Underground fungus forests are way beyond Maldorn's expertise. He is satisfied with letting the smalls take the lead in questioning Thrakk about whatever knowledge of the area he can share.
The one question he asks is: "Is it safe to smoke down here?"
OOC: Do we know that Erric has enthralled our guide again?
Anafrey would take a step backwards as the fungus moves away from her. "I think this stuff is smart.." She would say nervously from behind her makeshift mask.
Jambiya is ready to go, but if nobody else is going, she'll not march off on her own. She will still look for animals to chat with (Animal handling above was 21, don't want to waste it!)

“How dangerous is it now, Thrakk? Need we go without lights again?” Jambiya asks the orc.

"Track... right. That's what I said. Your name is Track." Maldorn fails to correct himself (not on purpose).
The old ranger then waits for the orc's responses to Jambiya's and Erric's questions before encouraging the group to press on.
Sagitta reappears from a fold in Maldorn's jacket and coils around the man's upper left arm as the group advances.
"Okay, that makes sense," Erric says, eyeing the orc over again. "What's the story with the mushrooms? And the little dust floating around?"

Erric is pro-lights.
Jambiya will have spent some of her short rest looking through her new book of woodland shadows she got from her mother/patron.
She stands at the entrance looking out at the expanse of fungus and such. “Wow. It’s like a whole... world, down here.”
She will wink her lights out to see if there is enough bioluminescence for her darkvision-impaired friends to see.

Jambiya smiles at Erric's gregariousness, and takes note to ask any animals what happens if we walk through this fungus forest.

Waiting on Anafrey ...

OOC: Do we know that Erric has enthralled our guide again?
What do you need from me? I was scrolling through and didn't see where I was missing anything. Sorry for holding things up.
OOC: I thought perhaps you'd react to the fungus running from your swinging weapon.
OOHHH.... yeah that is weird.
Anafrey would take a step backwards as the fungus moves away from her. "I think this stuff is smart.." She would say nervously from behind her makeshift mask.
Erric finishes his mostly-serious proffer to the fungus, and hears Anafrey say this, and pauses. “Wait really?”
He looks into the cavern a bit deeper to see if he notices more movement.

Hearing Anafrey's comment, Maldorn puts away his pipe and brings up his bow instead.
