RE: but there's a final tunnel leading out of the myconids' big central chamber, which leads to the grimlocks? And I don't want to hold the narrative up anymore, but Erric would try to get any other information he can about the grimlocks from the derro, the myconids, and Thrakk, so the group's not just blindly walking in
Erric, yes, there is a tunnel heading west (the one that led to the Derro), one heading south (how you entered the Myconid chamber), on heading east, and one heading northeast.
Just more chatter, focusing more on the derro and the myconids. We’re ostensibly doing them a service and they’d share how many they have seen, anything about how they fight, etc. He’s not going to grill them but he’ll ask again and hope for less indirect answers. Just as he’s walking, nothing extensive.
(OOC: oh gosh I didn't at all want to hold things up! Thought this could be a background thing. Sorry, will do a bit of dialogue but please feel free to move things along.)
To the derro: "What else can you tell us about the grimlocks? I'm not sure you actually fought them, but even if not, what should we expect if we try to sneak up on them?"
To the myconids: "We had a peaceful meeting with the derro. You didn't mention they liked shoes so much. We're going to go talk to the grimlocks. What should we expect?"
Thrakk's already said his peace, so no chatter needed there.
"Grimlocks are dumb," Diinit replies through Jambiya's translation. "Blind, but they do hear well. I don't think it will be easy to sneak up on them, but you can try."
Erric is pleased to find that the spores must still be active, as he can still communicate with the chief Myconid. It replies, "Shoes?" And after a pause, "Foot coverings. As you can see, we do not cover our appendages. The derro are peculiar. Usually peaceful. One climbs to the surface regularly and does come back with a foot covering. As for the grimlocks, we have had little contact with them, but none of it peaceful. We would suggest you do not confront them. Peace is always best."
“It only lasts 10 minutes, so we should do this when we know we are sufficiently close to the grimlocks. Unless the plan is for Sagitta to investigate the way to the grimlocks. Thruck, how far away from the grimlocks would you say we are now that we are facing the right tunnel?”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thrakk looks at Maldorn with a slightly confused look on his face before appearing to shake the feeling. He looks at the tunnel and back at the old man. "The grimlocks are between 50 and 100 feet this way. If they are there at all," he continues. "They may have moved further back into the Underdark."
Still relying on his previous impression of the orc (insight showed he was telling the truth), Maldorn shrugs, casts Beast Bond on Sagitta, and orders the snake to scout ahead in the direction of the grimlocks.
Maldorn, as the spell says you have to stay within line of sight of each other, I'm going to point out a few issues and not hold you to the spell ... this time.
First, the tunnel makes almost a 90-degree turn 20 or so feet in. Also, it's pitch black down there, so once Sagitta is out of the light of the myconid cave spores, you won't be able to see him, and he would only be able to see you if you're within 10 feet of him.
(OOC: Ooops... I gotta read my spells better. Thanks for pointing that out.)
Maldorn apologizes: "Sorry friends, this magical abilities are a new gift. It occurs to me the lack of light and the particular shape of this tunnel are enough to brake the link I can establish with Sagitta. Jack-n-torch might be our best choice after all."
Erric (having had to recast the ritual spell) sends Jack ahead with a torch. Erric would go the 20 feet to the turn, barely peeking half and eyeball around the corner, stooped low, about 10 inches above the ground, down the next length of hallway, trying to spot anything Jack’s torch reveals. He welcomes Jambiya’s guidance since he is not the most perceptive chap. (Anticipating some problem with the plan here so I’m not presumptively rolling - feel free to roll perception for me DDP if you like!)
(I have a wedding this weekend and then will be camping all next week so my character might have to be controlled a bit lol)
(Forgot, Lerus, and have fun, Wreckzors!)

OK, go ahead.
If possible, Maldorn helps Erric by chatting a bit (through translation), as to keep the derro/myconids talking.

"You are probably right," Erric thinksays to the myconids. He continues following the group to the grimlocks' tunnel.
Out loud, in Common, he says, "so are we just walking in? I can send Jack in to confuse them. Maybe they don't love torches and bright light."
"I can send in Sagitta this time." Maldorn says. "I can establish a mental link with my slithery friend, and he needs no light."
"Shall we try that this time?" he asks the smarter portion of the party.
Erric nods excitedly.
“That’s a good idea Maldorn,” Jambiya says. “Be safe, Sagitta,” she tells the snake.

With Thrakk saying the grimlocks could be that close, Jambiya grabs hold of Anafrey to help direct her in the dark, and tries to move quietly.

Guidance from Jambiya's mom is given to Erric!
