Erric's action, to keep things moving along! Spoilered for if this is way too early.
He casts phantasmal force on the grimlock that hit Jambiya twice, making it seem like the boulder it had been hiding behind becomes hotter than magma, rolls over on top of it, pinning it to the ground and causing 2 psychic (fake fire) damage on a failed INT 13 save.
For his bonus action, he expends a bardic inspiration to use mantle of inspiration again (allowing Jambya, Anafrey, and Maldorn to each gain 5 temp hp and use their reactions immediately to move their full movement without incurring an opportunity attack). Erric's form shifts a bit and it almost seems as it a flaming, radiant, beautiful cloak settles upon his shoulders, inspiring them to do wonders.
Maldorn uses his reaction, hopefully before his own turn starts, to move away from the six creatures but not enough to be within melee range from Thrakk.
Once his turn starts proper, and if still needed, he uses his movement to continue moving away from the enemies but still avoiding Thrakk's melee range. He then shoots an arrow at the gray-skinned assailant that is closest to Jambiya (please use attack roll below). The shot only comes after a casting of Hunter's Mark.
If Erric's turn does not happen as he described:
Maldorn first moves away from the six creatures but not enough to be within melee range from Thrakk. He then marks and shoots at the most menacing of the surprise attackers:
-> Longbow vs. Grimlock?: Attack: 27 Damage: 19 piercing.

OOC: Anafrey and Ebokk have 5 temp HP. Does anyone remember why? I'm thinking it has probably worn off by now.

Round 2: Anafrey, Jambiya (unconscious, but stable and will wake in 4 hours), Erric, grimlocks, Maldorn, Thrakk (grappled), Ebokk
The three grimlocks pummel Jambiya with the flat of their blades (but the other players don't really notice that; they just see them attack and Jambiya collapse). As Jambiya falls, a fourth grimlock in close contact turns and attempts to hit Erric, but the bard is able to dodge the attack, despite his utter amazement at what is happening. As soon as she goes down, her glowing orbs wink out, plunging the group into mostly darkness once again, with only a little bit of light coming from Jack's torch, which is still mostly blocked from view by the large rocks and now the advancing forms of the grimlocks. (Maldorn between now and your turn, if you want to do something different, I'll let you adjust your attack. If you still want to attack, you'll need to roll a disadvantage roll, unfortunately, unless new light comes to be.)
Anafrey, while your eyes cannot see, you immediately begin hearing in your mind the voice if your hitchhiker giving you a verbal description of what is around you, so you do not have to roll with disadvantage on your attacks.
Also, just realized Erric needs to be able to see both the target of phantasmal force, and the recipients of mantle of inspiration, so he will not be doing either of those things with his turn unless there's some light.
I'm a little foggy on the placement of everything, where Jack is in relation to the party, where Erric and Jambiya are in relation to each other, grimlocks, etc. He has to be able to see the person he's trying to heal with healing word. Can Jack move 15 feet closer to the battle with the torch and provide the light necessary to see the grimlocks? Erric can do that with his bonus action, and he has an action, which means no healing (somehow I have no healing potions to feed), but he could defend Jambiya. Can Erric get to Jambiya? Dissonant whispers is the only option he has against things he can't see...
Jambiya specifically went to join Jack and the torch. At some point either on her journey or once she got there the grimlocks jumped out and beat her.
As I understand it, that puts her towards the middle of the room, but Jack and the torch were past some big boulders/stalagmites behind which the grimlocks were hiding. So, at best Jack is providing fitful and dancing shadows that probably make everything crazy amid the sudden chaos and battle.
imho. Ymmv.

she/her Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands.
What I have (but I don't want to share because it looks awful) is that Jambiya is five feet into the cave (having passed Erric to enter the cave). Erric is just outside the cave, still in the tunnel. Then, behind Erric are Maldorn, Anafrey, Thrakk and Ebokk. There are four grimlocks in melee with Jambiya, with one of them also in melee with Erric. That grimlock attempted to hit Erric, but missed. So, Jambiya, one grimlock and Maldorn are in melee with Erric. Even thought it is very dark, it is not pitch black because of Jack's torch. I would say you could see those three well enough to cast phantasmal force or attack with a melee weapon. Beyond that and you start attacking with disadvantage as you are now. As I said in the PM, I'm going to go with your flavoring of mantle of inspiration and say you can inspire creatures who can see you, even if they can't see you. I would say, even though you can't see them, you have to be intending the inspiration for specific creatures. So, you could have three of your party members in mind when you "activate" it, but if one or more of them cannot see you, it won't work on them.
Anger would quickly build inside of Anafrey the sounds of battle echo around her. still holding on to the traitor Thrakk, she would swing her flail down towards his face once more. All the while her anger continues to build as a voice inside her head describes in vivid detail the beating Jam has taken and how her battered body lies crumpled on the ground ..
OOC: Erric, that would be different. Jambiya's eyes are closed, so she can't see your mantle. Plus, temporary hit points won't wake up an unconscious creature, so it wouldn't accomplish what you want, anyway.
Anafrey swings her flail at Thrakk, but he brings up an armored forearm and deflects the blow away harmlessly.
As Jambiya is not dying, there's no need to roll death saving throws. Visions of magic trees and dancing lights fill her unconscious mind.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Very good to know! Erric panics at the sight of Jambiya going down -- he doesn't know it's nonlethal damage. So he moves through and around and under the grimlocks on a path to stand astride Jambiya's body, trying to protect her from any further assault. Not quite the hero, but he doesn't know that. (Don't tell him!)
He calls Jack, carrying the torch, 15 feet closer to the fray so that he can actually see her better and heal her when he has a chance (and so that his friends can see the grimlocks better). Now, with the light more clearly revealing the scene, Erric looks up at the grimlocks and gulps. He looks around at all the grimlocks surrounding him and Jambiya and finds the one who seems most in charge (as he has never seen a grimlock before and has no idea how they form their social structures, this likely would be perfectly at random, but to Erric, it would be, say, the tallest). He casts phantasmal force on them.
In this grimlock's mind (if it fails an INT 13 save), the small halfling in front of him is occluded, and almost replace by the presence of a massive, towering figure of white-hot flame and lava. It's ten feet tall. The searing heat burns even from five feet away. The light blinds whatever remains of the underground creature's eyesight. Its massive arms swing wildly around it, potentially mauling any grimlock who gets too close. It takes 6 psychic damage this round, though it thinks it is fire damage.
None of the other grimlocks, nor any of the party members, see this -- they see a halfling standing over a goblin girl.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: This is very interesting. You are attempting to project an image into the mind of a blind creature. I cannot find anywhere where anyone has addressed this. The spell says it "includes sound, temperature, and other stimuli", so the grimlock would see an image, which it would have no idea what to do with, but also the sound and temperature, which it would know how to process. I guess we'll roll first, and then wing it ... 0 ... OK, as none of the grimlocks appear more "in charge" than another of the others, let's choose one of the three that attack Jambiya ... 1 ... Makes sense: the one in the middle. So, Erric, to this blind grimlock, projects an image of a "massive, towering figure of white-hot flame and lava. It's ten feet tall. The searing heat burns even from five feet away. The light blinds whatever remains of the underground creature's eyesight. Its massive arms swing wildly around it, potentially mauling any grimlock who gets too close." I think I'll take the KISS (keep it simple, stupid) approach.
The middle grimlock, the one standing directly in front of Erric, falls on its can, emitting a wail of surprise and horror.
The grimlock in front and to the left of Erric swings its axe at the halfling. (stone handaxe attack: 8, damage: 4 non-lethal slashing damage) The grimlock Erric's phantasmal force is affecting gets up and runs north out of the cave. The grimlock in front and to the right of Erric swings its axe at the halfling. (stone handaxe attack: 16, damage: 7 non-lethal slashing damage — fumble roll: 9 — acrobatics DC15: 13) The bard ducks, and the grimlock's swing is so wild, that it knocks itself off its feet, landing prone. The grimlock to Erric's right swings its axe at the halfling. (stone handaxe attack: 17, damage: 6 non-lethal slashing damage) The creature's weapon misses its target. The grimlock behind the grimlock to Erric's front left steps up into the place the middle grimlock vacated and swings its axe at Erric. (stone handaxe attack: 9, damage: 4 non-lethal slashing damage) Floating like a butterfly, Erric dodges this attack as well. The final grimlock, which is too far away to attack Erric, feels the heat of Jack's torch behind it and swings its axe at the unseen servant. (stone handaxe attack: 18, damage: 6 non-lethal slashing damage) Erric feels the magic which is Jack fizzle. The torch falls to the floor, but it is close enough to the party to shed dim light even as far as Maldorn.
As the grimlock forms take better shape from Jack's torch, Maldorn uses magic to mark (1=G3, 2=G4, 3=G5: 3) the grimlock which just stepped up to the center position. He then carefully aims and fires his bow, the arrow also splitting the red-orange hair on Erric's head as it sails over him. The grimlock doesn't even know what hit him. Erric looks up to see an eye hole appear in the creature's face just before the blood begins to gush. But the dead creature falls backward, landing with a heavy thump.
Unaware of how things are going in the cave, but still being gripped by Anafrey, Thrakk once again tries to bring his weapon down on the woman's head. (war pick attack: 19, damage: 11 non-lethal piercing damage) Once again, she uses her physical contact with the orc to help her deflect a lot of the damage. (-4 hp, -8 hp total)
Coming out of his surprised stupor, Ebbok growls, "What are you doing?!" at Thrakk as he swings his warhammer at the orc. (warhammer attack: 5, damage: 7 bludgeoning damage) Unfortunately, in the cramped space, the dwarf ends up ramming his weapon into the rock wall by Thrakk instead.
Round 3: Anafrey, Jambiya (unconscious, but stable and will wake in 4 hours), Erric, grimlocks, Maldorn, Thrakk (grappled), Ebokk
Fully support all of your decisions here DM, fwiw. I'm curious if Erric can move the illusion around (have it chase the grimlock and still 'threaten' it within the initial 60 foot area of the spell). Seems this is possible through some readings of the rules, but there's a lot of DM discretion built into the spell. Tell me what if anything Erric can do with it!
