Jambiya fires another blast of green white energy at the creature, but it bends its knees and angles its shell so that the blast glances off harmlessly. She also backs up five feet so that she is 15 feet away from the creature.
Maldorn swings his dagger, but the same maneuver that caused Jambiya's blast to (for all intents and purposes) miss causes the blade to only leave a slight scuff mark. Sagitta, however, comes flying in from Anafrey's side and dives down to bite the creature's vulnerable neck as it soars by back over the other four. The creature clicks its beak angrily at the winged snake, but he is too fast to be attacked. (38 total damage)
Encouraged by Sagitta's fruitful attack, Ebokk lowers his shield and attacks twice! (one-handed warhammer attack: 23, damage: 6 bludgeoning damage, action surge, one-handed warhammer attack: 12, damage: 5 bludgeoning damage) The first attack slams into the creature's side. A small crack appears, and there is a groan of pain from it. He swings again, but the creature shifts its stance to protect the injury, and Ebokk's hammer flies by, not making contact. (44 total damage)
Anafrey, you're up! You're still grappling the creature. It is heavily Injured and starting to visibly slow down.
Anafrey would struggle to grapple with the creature as its claw rips through her shoulder. While holding on tight to the creature, she would quickly pull a dagger from her belt and stab recklessly into the side of the large beast.
OOC: Maldorn, the rules say no flanking when playing theater of the mind. While I've been keeping track of how far away people are from each other and on which "line" they are, I haven't been keeping track of left or right, so I'd just have to say yes or no by my own decision. Truly, you all are doing OK, so I'm not ready to just start throwing out bonuses.
Anafrey slams her dagger down onto the creature's shell. The weapon stabs through about halfway up the blade, and she has to work a little to get it back out, but is able to. (48 total damage)
Erric digs into his pockets and throws some tarts in the air and swings a feather through the debris and casts tasha's hideous laughter on the beetle hook thing.
"Where did Captain Hook buy his hook? At a second hand store!"
(WIS 13 save or it falls to the ground incapacitated)
With his bonus action, he inspires Jambiya with a few "pew pew" hand gestures...
I'm actually glad it saved. I wasn't exactly sure what was going to happen to Anafrey when the creature she has grappled suddenly falls prone.
Jambiya, you are inspired.
The creature swings its long appendages at the two creatures within reach that have damaged it, Anafrey and Ebokk. (hook attack vs. Anafrey: 23, damage: 14 piercing damage; hook attack vs. Ebokk: 7, damage: 12 piercing damage) The four party members groan as one as Anafrey endures another slash from the creature, bloodying her neck and upper torso. (Anafrey is down to 6 hp) (fumble roll: 7, DEX save DC15: 12) As the creature whips its other hooked appendage at Ebokk, it loses its balance as the dwarf uses his shield to deflect the attack and actually bang into the side of the large creature. Its many legs have to scuttle about to keep it from falling, and it succeeds.
(OOC: Erric can't grant advantage -- his inspiration means add a d6 to any roll. Seems you rolled an 8+5 initially, so actually there's a chance the d6 gets you to a hit, assuming DDP lets you take the first roll for that attack...)
OOC: Yes, the first roll is the roll that counts, so with inspiration, it's a hit.
Jambiya prepares to fire, but suddenly hears something in her head like a melody that causes her to aim a little to the right. The blast just manages to strike the creature in a vulnerable spot, causing it to click its beak in frustration. (55 damage)
Sagitta does another flyby, leaving Maldorn's end and heading toward Anafrey, pausing to strike the creature on the way. (66 damage)
OOC2: Yes, Erric, Anafrey is within 60 feet of you.
Seeing the creature beginning to show wear and tear, Ebokk swings his hammer again. "Die, foul creature!" the dwarf growls. (one-handed warhammer attack: 9, damage: 6 bludgeoning damage) The vulture-headed beetle twists just as he is swinging, and his hammer glances off its shell harmlessly.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Anafrey would continue to hold on tightly.. believing that if she lets the creature go it will hurt her friends. Once again she would stab hard at the creature with her dagger.
OOC: I'm going to stop using the critical fail table. It's becoming an annoyance. As you all increase in levels, a 1 might not automatically be a crit fail, but it is right now.
Anafrey raises her dagger to attempt to stab the creature again, but it bucks, throwing off her balance (as she is still holding onto it), and she falls forward against the creature's shell instead, almost biting her tongue as her teeth are slammed together.
(OOC: Maldorn is next according to the initiative order, so I'll go ahead and take my turn if that's alright.)
Sagitta repeats his attack, and this time Maldorn does too:
-> Flyby Bite vs Vulture-Beetle: Attack: 27 Damage: 15 piercing and poison.
-> Dagger vs Vulture-Beetle: Attack: 8 Damage: 6 piercing.
(OOC: What a damage roll for Sagitta!)
I assume you're using nimble escape to avoid a possible AoO?
(If you're talking to me, the goblin with Nimble Escape, then yes! Definitely! Using my Bonus Action to do so. And thank you!)

Jambiya, you're up!
OOC > Aw crap, it's my move! I've been online all day! Sorry.
Jambiya frowns as her friend takes yet another direct hit from this creature. "Hrrahh!" she growls as she shoot another blast!
Action: Eldritch Blast, using her newly acquired Inspiration ("Pew pew" fingers!) for Advantage. 13 to hit, for 7 magical force damage.
Edit: even with Advantage... sigh.

Oh, duh. Sorry. I do t play with a lot of bards.
Here’s the d6. 2
So, initial roll 8 plus modifier 5 plus this 2 is 15!

Sagitta and Maldorn repeat his two-pronged attack:
-> Flyby Bite vs Vulture-Beetle: Attack: 19 Damage: 11 piercing and poison.
-> Dagger vs Vulture-Beetle: Attack: 12 Damage: 7 piercing.
(OOC: Sagitta is doing all the damage here. Maldorn can't hit even if his life depended on it.)
(Erric is certainly within 60 feet of Anafrey to be able to heal her on his turn, right?)

Erric, your turn!
Erric casts healing word on Anafrey for 5 hp as his bonus action.
He then draws his rapier and tries to skewer the beetle vulture.
Attack: 21 Damage: 4
(this was re-rolled to a 17+5=23 thanks to a luck point used in the following post, for the record)
