Maldorn quickly releases his held arrow, but the projectile ricochets off of the creature's carapace, flying off into the distance. Though it had fallen facing Anafrey, it turns to face Maldorn. Its beak clicks menacingly, and Maldorn realizes that's what he had heard clacking.
Jambiya, you are up! You are 10 feet away from the creature. Erric is right beside you. Ebokk is behind you. Maldorn is in front of you. Anafrey is 15 feet ahead. The tunnel is 10 feet wide, so there's room for two PCs per "line". And I just realize the creature is large, so we'll have to space Anafrey and Maldorn out a little. Let's say when it fell, it knocking Anafrey five feet forward (without damage or knocking her down). So, Anafrey is 20 feet ahead of you instead of 15.
Ebokk rushes forward, jostling Jambiya a bit in his haste and throwing her aim off a hair. The dwarf takes a position beside Maldorn in front of Erric and Jambiya, his shield at the ready to defend himself and the others.
Maldorn, you're up again! You're in melee with the creature, so you either shoot again at disadvantage, switch weapons, or chance an opportunity attack to move further away.
Doesn't Jambiya still have an inspiration or two left in her ring?
(Also, having just snooped around all of our character sheetfronts for the first time, doesn't magical Jambiya have +1 to her spell attacks thanks to her stick?)
(OOC: Sorry for another correction but I guess the +1 to DEX would also affect Maldorn's damage roll, so it should be 10 damage for that readied shot.)
Maldorn's arrow-loading hand reaches for one of his daggers instead, and his bow-hand drops the longbow. He looks into one of his pockets: "C'mon boy, it's your time to shine." Sagitta springs out of the ranger's clothing letting his tail coil around a small patch of fur that was also kept in said pocket. Maldorn adds to that material spell component a snap of his fingers and the word "Vinculum," casting Beast Bond on the flying snake. The eager reptile flies and attacks as a single motion:
-> Flyby Bite vs Vulture-Beetle: Attack: 18 Damage: 11 piercing and poison.
Sagitta continues flying after the attack, putting some distance between him and the enemy (no opportunity attack due to Flyby feature.) Sagitta does not fly into the darkness, as Maldorn telepathically commands him to stay within the torches' radii.
Erric, her new stick has been attuned, so it is applying all the appropriate bonuses. Maldorn's is different because he/we are just trying to remember the temporary modifications.
Maldorn, it would add another hit point (10 damage), and it would also affect your initiative, too. You actually go before Ebokk because it would give you a +1 to initiative as well. I'll try to remember that for future rounds.
Sagitta makes his inaugural attack, inflicting a quick bite on the back of the monster's neck before sneaking away to safety. (21 damage total)
Anafrey, you're up! You are in melee with the creature and separated from everyone (except Sagitta) by it.
Any advantages to attacking/targeting a grappled creature? Or would there be advantage from engaging this creature in melee (assume we're already flanking it)? From my read of the rules it only affects the target's speed but maybe I'm missing something.

Erric casts dissonant whispers on the beetle thing -- 3 psychic damage on a failed WIS 13 save, and using its reaction if available to flee, though since it's grappled, I assume it loses its reaction.
OOC Jambiya Notes: Yes, +5 is correct: +2 for prof, +2 for Cha, +1 from stick. The ring stores up to three Inspirations for 1 hour, and I think it has been more than an hour since she has been inspired? Correct me if I am wrong.

OOC: Good to know! And yes with a short rest, any of those will be gone. Erric will have more of these assuming he gets to 4th level and boosts his CHA to 18, and then another level gets him a recharge on a short rest so eventually they won't be so scarce.
Erric, being grappled does not hinder reacting. You are 10 feet away, but the creature is large (and its hooked appendages look long). Do you still want to run and risk an AoO?
Oh, no, I was talking about IT'S reaction, as a part of the spell. The creature, should it fail its save on the spell, has to use its reaction, if available, to flee.
(OOC: Sorry to pile on on my mistakes but I added a tad too big a bonus to Sagitta's attack and damage rolls there. The attack roll should have been a 17. The damage roll was 10.)

OK, creature damage total is 20, not 21, prior to Erric.
WIS save: 17
Erric feels a resistance to his magic melody — perhaps a language barrier? — but the tune causes the creature to flinch and look as if it wants to run away, but Anafrey's grip keeps it from moving. (23 damage)
The creature swings both of its long, hook-ended appendages — one at Anafrey and the other at (1=Maldorn, 2=Ebokk, 3=Jambiya, 4=Erric: 1) Erric, its most-recent attacker. (hook attack vs. Anafrey: 22, damage: 12 piercing damage; hook attack vs. Erric: 23, damage: 14 piercing damage) Holding onto the creature, Anafrey is unable to fully move out of the way, and the creature's hooked appendage rakes across her shoulder. Erric, on the other hand, is able to duck under the grasping weapon as it whips out at him.

Ebokk: 17+1=18
Erric: 3+4=7
Jambiya: 17+3=20
Maldorn: 15+3=18
creature: 4+0=4

OOC: In case the creature’s AC is 15, I just noticed I forgot to add the extra +1 to my attack roll from smoking the DEX tobacco.
Ha ha! i'm glad you remembered, because it IS 15.
Instead or ricocheting off, the arrow pierces the creature's black shell. (9 damage)
Hurray!
Scrunching her face, determined to make a smart choice, Jambiya fires off an Eldritch Blast at the thing.
Action: EB at the thing! 14 to hit, for 5 magical force damage.

"Damn!" Anafrey would shout before quickly jumping towards the creature. She would drop the torch at its feet as she tries to grapple the beast.

Jambiya, you're up!
OOC > Pew!
Jambiya takes a few steps back to get out of range of the thing’s reach and shoots another blast at it.
Action: EB at the thing! 18 to hit, for 9 magical force damage.
