Now that Jambiya is up in the plateau, Maldorn turns his attention to the birds. First, he tries to listens beyond the angry screech of the blood hawks, hoping to identify the cries of any other animal up there if any.
Maldorn reassesses the situation: "Do we still want to go up there and get that bird's eye view of the island? If we are going to anger the birds, the cost may outweigh the benefits."
Couching up blood, Anafrey would curl up and roll around a bit, letting out a lout groan. "I... I think... you made them mad when ya shot the one..." She would sputter inbetween coughing. After a moment to catch her breath, she would wipe the blood from around her mouth and stand up. "Stupid winged rats!" She would shout before pulling her shortbow form her back and quickly letting an arrow fly towards the flock of circling birds. Attack: 8 Damage: 6
"GaahH!!! DAMN IT!" She would shout as the attack fails to go as planned.... ...
"Anafrey, let's take a pause and look around. You almost died. Again. Let's look around here to see what we can find and then figure out what we want to do."
Jambiya rushes over to Anafrey. "Erric is right, let's just take a moment. I know how you feel," she says, remembering her blasts at the sky after almost dying to the crabs.
"Here, have a drink," and she hands her a waterskin with a wink. But it turns out to just be water.

"Right..." She would say putting her bow on her back before taking a swig from the waterskin before pulling out and taking a bigger swig from her flask. She would then take a few deep breaths as the wind blows her long white hair around her face. After a second or two she would move the hair from her eyes and look around for anything of importance. "Thanks.. "She would say looking to Jambiya and then Erric.
"Not me, though at least this time I'm not the one dragged us into trouble," she winks at Anafrey. "We all have Erric to thank for keeping us on our feet."

Erric, you are not in combat. The birds appear to have flown back up to circle the peak after driving Anafrey away.
Maldorn, all you can hear are the hawk's angry screeches and the wind blowing in your ears.
Anafrey, that critical fail deserves a roll on the ole' critical fumbles chart: 13 — String Break. Your bowstring snaps. Assuming you have a spare string, it requires 1 minute to replace it. We've already established that Maldorn brought extra strings, so even if Anafrey didn't, he'll probably let her have one.
After attempting to angrily fire an arrow at your attackers, but pulling too hard and snapping your bowstring instead, you put the broken bow away (to fix later) and begin to take stock of your surroundings. The plateau is fairly boring. It's large, level, sports a few rocks of varying sizes, and lots and lots of bird ... stuff. Nothing is growing. No other living creatures are seen. You can see the Nightshade from here, as well as the wreck, and you can also see that the trees on the island form a circle around a space in the center of the island, but you can't see what is in the center.
To Anafrey: “I don’t think it was my arrow, angry one. The birds are just protecting their home up there, that’s my guess. They attacked once you started getting too close. If we want to go up there, we’ll likely have to deal with the birds.”
To Erric: “The trees were just... strange. Darker than normal and restricting any looks farther in... I’d venture a guess and say some foul magic may protect it, but I’m new to the arcane, so I can’t be sure.”
To Jambiya: “If we want to gather intelligence, I think we must go up there. We must be ready and certain we want to end those birds’ lives... and risk ours. This bothers me a bit, but if they force us to protect ourselves, then we must.”
Jambiya thinks a moment, looking up at the birds circling overhead. "That's something I've been thinking about. I've wondered if I should be thinking about dinner different, now I can talk to it. Like, am I going to just eat plant stuff from now on, cause it won't tell me about its kids and stuff?"
The too-tall-for-a-goblin girl has always been the soul of sweetness and kind to every stranger, but you've seen a little bit of a different side of her since you've been adventuring. Maybe it's the goblin in her coming out.
She looks troubled now. "I don't know how I feel about just shooting them, not that I'm unhappy with what you did, Maldorn, I mean you dressed it and you're gonna eat it and all, and I've got no problem with that. Just, if we don't have to, I'd rather not just kill them out of hand."

Erric squints up: "would there be a way to scare them off for a short while, or distract them to somewhere else? Jambiya could you somehow find out what they really don't like, or what they like? And maybe I could put up an illusion close to them of something they are scared of, or farther away something they like? Or maybe they like attacking things they don't like and I could make an illusion of that and they fly off to attack it? Or maybe we could find a way up they can't see easily and take a peek. Who knows - maybe they love rings and they nabbed the beard ring. Probably not. I don't have much magical reserves left and if someone wants to find another way to anger another phylum of animals I'd want to be able to heal them. So maybe the trees are better to try."
"Um, I could yell at them, I guess. But I think I'd have to get pretty close to really talk to them. And we did kill one of therm. I'm not sure they're going to want to listen."
Jambiya glances a little nervously at Anafrey's wounds.

Maldorn turns to Jambiya and suggests: "Since you can speak with animals, perhaps you can ask Sagitta here to fly up high and report back on what he sees, either on the plateau above or the island overall." He then adds a caveat: "If we do this, Sagitta needs to keep a safe distance from those birds so that he is not attacked. Perhaps if he flies up from the edge of the initial slope we just climbed, the birds won't notice him. They didn't seem bothered by us when we were that far away."
"I'll be honest..." Anafrey would pipe up as she rubs her wounds.. "I don't really care who does the talking.. but if it isn't done soon I am going to borrow a new bowstring form Maldorn and start knocking them out of the sky one by one..." The white haired fighter would say as she wipes a bit of dried blood from around her mouth. "Those birds gave me a splitting headache... " She would mention as she pulls out her flask and takes another small swig.
"Sagitta, if you go, please be careful," Erric says to the winged snake.
He furrows his brow. "I wonder if I could get close enough, at the base of that next cliff, and get under cover somehow from the kind of attacks that brought down Anafrey, for me to insult the birds enough that they decide to leave?" (using vicious mockery). "I could even have, at the same time, a minor illusion of a large bird of prey going about 30 feet away from me on the ground, so that they would look down, see it, and if they decided to attack the insulter, they'd attack the fake bird instead of me. The idea being to get them away from the top of the mountain to give us a chance to try climbing up."
He looks around at his companions. "I mean, I've had worse ideas."
She goes to Maldorn. "Do you think Sagitta will be safe flying up near those birds? Anafrey is like, a hundred times his size, and they nearly did for her. I don't know if this is a good idea. I might even like Erric's better."
She looks around the plateau we are on. "Actually, I think we should just head back down. Now we know there's a clearing in the woods, we should make our way towards it, carefully. I just don't see where inviting trouble is going to get us."

Maldorn clarifies: "You misunderstand me, Jambiya. The plan would be for Sagitta to fly up, yes, but nowhere near those birds. We back track a bit, to a safe horizontal distance, and then you can ask Sagitta to fly straight up. Why don't you ask him if he'd agree to the plan?"
He sighs: "That said, I'm fine with heading back down and going to the clearing. We should be careful in the woods though..."
Jambiya will ask Sagitta. “Hey Sagitta, you. Maldorn and I would like you to fly up high, but don’t go near this red hawks! Stay away from them, but see if you can see what’s in the woods, in the big hole in the trees.” And she points towards the clearing in the woods.

Jambiya, it's hard to say what you might see from the highest point. You'd surely see more, but just how much is hard to judge.
