Khlöe almost wants to try and ease Maya’s nerves but doesn’t know how to. She’s has never been good at providing solid reassurances and instead elects to say “Depends on how strong our grips will be when we descend. The first one down could try to jam the spikes into the walls and create footholds or grips for everyone else, but that will be more trouble than its worth. At least we have a plan ready in case someone falls”
Khlöe's words were enough reassurance to ease some tension in Maya. She took a deep breath to let her nerves calm, then nodded to let the party know she was ready when the others were.
As he he watched everyone filing down the hole a thought crossed his mind. The rope was weak to sharp objects and a reward split one way instead of seven was more profitable. He put his hand on his dagger caressing it as he pondered. Then his thoughts went to Flemig and Khloe. He felt a pang of sadness. Amidst his desire for greed he realised he didn't want harm to come to those two. He removed his hand from the dagger and went down the hole after them.
ooc- i imagine we tied the rope to something. Like a spike or a piton up top. As for down in the shaft the walls are pretty slippery I think Zansnut knows because he checked he didn't specifically say to anyone else. Could make spiking walls harder but if someone wants to try that would be cool.
Flemig, firmly packed into the middle of the group, readies himself for the climb, and also mentally prepares to cast his Feather Fall spell should anyone fall. "Be sure to stay as close as possible to me as we climb down. My magics lose their effectiveness on those too far away."
Zansnut stopped still holding on to the rope. Looking down below past the others on the rope he noticed the rest of the team blocked. "What is the hold up?" He could already feel the burn in his arms. He takes a second look and can see a bit of the grate.
Investigation Zansnut is looking at the gate for any signs of rust or weakness near the edge of the walls.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Maya would be trying to convince herself not to look down during most of the decent, she may even bump into Allistar when the party suddenly stops. "Sorry" she'd whisper before finally glancing down quickly, then staring back at her hands on the rope. Hearing Zansnut's voice from above she'd wince, then take a deep breath before looking down again to see if she could see anything on the grate from where she was. Maybe Allistar's light at the end of the rope would cast off enough light for her to see more.
Maya would glance nervously down the hole, then to Tanirall and the others, “Would spikes benefit us for our decent down or will the rope be enough?”

Ooc: could we not put the spike in somewhere up top, tie some rope to it and slide down with our feet on the walls, and walk down almost?

Allistar will go second down the rope, casting light on the rope halfway down the descent so it’s easier to see.

Maya would go next after Allistar, remembering Zansnut suggestion to have Flemig go in the middle and him last.

You were in a stand of trees and had two statues to tie off from.
You nake your way down the rope, the uneven stones giving slippery purchase for your feet. 10 ft down it turns to natural rough hewn rock.
At the bottom of the 40 ft shaft is an irpn grate mortared into the wall.

(Can we see any kind of lock, or latch or anything that could be used to open the grate? Or is it literally just a standalone grate?)
“This grate can’t have been made to be weight bearing, yes? Maybe a couple jumps and stomps from all of us together?”
