Your group approaches the scene as Felosial dismisses the shamble of guards and scouts. Felosial spots you approaching. She greets you with a wary smile, “Sometimes I fear I’ll never be able to shape this lot. Anyway... why are you back to see me so soon? And weren’t there more of you yesterday? I hope nothings gone awry for you.”
(BTW - I'm interested in their answers to Alten's question about any experience with Warforged.)
Alten to Felosial
No, nothing wrong. A couple of minor wounds but they are being tended to.
Tosses the head at her feet. I told you we would let you know what we found. He nods towards the severed head. We killed four of these out in the woods. They shoot these tiny twigs - which account for the needle-like puncture marks. They also are venomous. Their backtrail seems to point to the Citadel. No idea if there are more or if this is it..
We're heading back to the Citadel now. I would certainly appreciate if you would let the mayor know what is going on. Hopefully that will be helpful to both you and the town.
It's a beautiful morning ladies. I thought we would drop this off at the jail and let the Constable know what is plaguing her town.
Is there anything either of you need to take care of in town or is this trip just going to be a quickie?
In all seriousness, have either of you ever seen anything like our "Warforge" friend. He is unlike anything I've ever encountered.
As they walk back.
"I've nothing else to take care of in town," Rees says, shrugging, "We picked up quite a few tasks, hopefully, they can all be completed as quickly as this one. As for Talien... I've never seen anything like him, no, but there were stories at the orphanage where I was raised. Another world at the intersection of the planes of existence that was marked by war and strange creatures. Not a lot of information to be found there, mind you, and probably not trustworthy. But I have a feeling if you asked him, he'd tell you what he knows, limited though that might be."
As an acolyte in training, I sometimes worked in orphanages that are sponsored by some of the affiliated faiths. Where was this orphanage?
Although I am technically an orphan, I did not grow up in an orphanage. Marta raised me, as any other mother would. No father, but Uncle Versad came around sometimes when he was on leave. Did you know your family at all?
"Further south. And no, I didn't know my family, but that's alright. I manage just fine on my own."
(ooc: Not naming the city both because Rees doesn't necessarily think it matters and because Idk which ones would be a "big city" like the one she grew up in.)
Arxius rubs her finger and thumb together through her glove, thinking of the things she has seen. She tries to remember if such a beast has ever crossed her path. The only forge she knew created nothing but pain. “Perhaps it is best not to consider him friend until he is known better,” she says. “The world is full of horrors created by men. Who knows what the purpose of this one is?”
A breeze suddenly picks up and bursts the heads of the dandelions that smatter the field. You watch as the breeze snatches up the tiny white seeds and blows them across the road. The early morning sun radiates down on you and warms your cheeks. It seems to be the start of a truly fine summer day.
Suddenly, you hear a beautiful voice start to sing. It appears seemingly out of nowhere and you shake your head for a moment unsure if it is real. The voice is accompanied by the plucking of a lute and you’re sure now it is not a figment of your imagination. After a moment you can tell the sound is quickly approaching you from the south...
Spring will return, on the road the rain will fall Hearts will be warmed by the heat of the sun It must be thus, for fire still smolders in us all An eternal fire, hope for each one
Grom doesnt need to roll hit duce but he will use his Arcane recovery to get back his 1 spent spell slot.
"So talien, what was it like?..."
What was what like? Talien replies, looking over at him, still polishing his blade while not looking at it.
Your created for war.. thats all you know. You live and breathe and are an instrument for war.... Then it's all gone it's just you and your alone in this world. And now here you find yourself in a small town taking jobs for coin
What was it truly like.... what was all out brutal war like?

Who knows. Your approach reflects a prudent sentiment. But since he - it - he is a colleague in this endeavor, I will treat him as friendly until he gives me reason not to. Trust is another thing, entirely.

The head hits the cobblestones with a dense "thud". Felosial looks down, then back up at you. She smiles and says, "Bravo, bravo. This truly makes me miss my days spent fighting on the frontier. I wish I could go to the citadel with you... alas, I am stuck with this lot," she says gesturing over to the meandering guards.
"I am glad none of you were hurt too badly. I will certainly make this report to the mayor. He will find your information most useful. But, are you sure you don't want to come with me and claim your reward now?"
Arxius is confused by Alten's assumption she and Rees are family. She looks at her friend quizzically. Though she has noticed the changeling copying certain traits she had never considered they looked similar. Perhaps it is simply because she has grown accustomed to her.
"Better to get a reward when it is offered," she says. "Things change too quickly to assume it will be waiting upon return."
"We're here, might as well go ahead and collect our payment."
In Oakhurst...
Felosial smiles again and says, "Very well.. follow me then" as she picks up the head and leads you across the way to the Town Hall. Felosial knocks on the door and the servant from the day prior answers it. She ushers you into the mayors study and goes to fetch him. Mayor Leng enters a few minutes later still wearing a blue silken nightcap and gown. He looks irritated. Wiping sleep from his eyes he snaps, "This better be good Felosial.. it is still very early!"
Mimicking Alten, Felosial drops the blight head on the floor with a "thud". It rolls a little and stops at mayor's slippers. The mayor lets out a gasp and jumps back in fright. "What in the nine hells is this!?" He yells. Felosial just stands there and smiles for a moment before replying, "These fine adventurers have discovered what's behind the killings and were even kind enough to handle the matter for us... something the guard could have done a week ago would you have properly funded us!"
Though the mayor is taken aback he recovers shortly and retorts, "I have already given you eight additional guard. What more will you have of me?"
Felosial shakes her head, "You have given me nothing but untrained farmers.. but this is a matter for another time. These fine people are here to report their findings and collect what they are owed."
The mayor sighs, "Yes, yes.. what'd I say 50 gold pieces?"
Grom doesnt need to roll hit duce but he will use his Arcane recovery to get back his 1 spent spell slot.

It just is what it is. I live to do what I want now, and I want to collect coin and fight in the war.

His fine features give him an elven like quality, but you can tell he is human by his lazy gait. He hails you and calls out as he approaches, "Well now! ...Is that a fellow bard I hear, well met Sir! You matched my pitch and tone perfectly! Wherever did you learn to play like that? I tip my hat to you!" He says with a bow as he tosses you a gold coin.
"I am Calendula Officinalis, but you may call me Marigold! And whom do I owe the pleasure this fine summer day?"
