Paavu sneezes some blood from his nose after that last hit, and chuckled in spite of the pain. "You have Paavu's undivided attention now." He says to Grol, accepting the blow as due punishment for the lack etiquotte on his part. Even if the 'lesser' bugbear had in way earned his own ire for getting grabby hands. Pushing the thought aside, as well as that of the Drow woman, the giant goliath pulled out his pig sticker, and waited a few seconds to see if Grol loosened his guard before trying to drive it right into his stomach.
A cruel attack for those who knew well how excruciating and lengthy deaths by such wounds could be. But, Paavu trusted it'd take a few such stabs to even come close to getting Grol in such a state. A thought that brought a small smile to his face.

As Rose hides and pulses out selune's healing, Burgee, finally channeling his rage into a series of admittedly successful attacks, his firebolt hitting the drow hard, the flames licking over her flesh, and the sickly scent of sizzling skin permeating the air. But still, she sits atop her perch, taking aim at Rose with the poison-slicked bolt, new fury crossing her visage. Lark looks at Burgee and says Nono, she said hit the guy carrying her! before shooting another bolt, this one at the bugbear creating her perch. However, his bolt misses as the bugbear shifts just enough out of the way.
Paavu landing another deep sticking blow, and Grol falters, almost fallign to one knee, but holding his footing, just barely.
Lark tosses another inspiration to Paavu.
The drow, takes aim as soon as Grol starts to topple, her bolt flying towards the tiny halfling... And unless Rose had a miracle, the bolt would sink into her shoulder, the part that had just barely poked out from her shield, the poison seeping into her veins....
Grol letting out a mighty roar. You fight without honor. You heal by little woman. Cannot face me as true warrior. As he taunts his weapon is brought up to slam, missing but he pivots, and swings again, but his wounds cause him to tense at a bad time, and his weapon slings around and hits him in the back of the head. Killing him.
The remaining bugbear panicking as his leader falls, dropping the drow and jumping at paavu, attempting to thrash him into a bearhug again. But once again, Paavu brushes it off as if it were a child rebelling against its parent.

Rose grunts as the arrow pierces her shoulder and tries her best to muffle a scream as the poison courses through her veins. She places and hand on the bolt, tearing it out and throwing it aside. Placing her hand on the wound she debated about healing it, especially once the big guy went down. Still, she was getting tired, and wasnt sure how many more times she could utilize her magic. Deciding it was better to hold off she maintained her position behind the sheild. Seeing the Drow ***** hold the dwarf hostage she hesitated to do anything that might agitate her. Even if she healed him from here, she wasnt sure that would do much to protect him from a bolt direct to the neck. While she thought on what to do, Rose would refocus on the healing of Sanctuary for herself and Paavu 3 While still hiding behind the sheild Rose wishpers a [Tooltip Not Found] targeting the dwarf healing him for 6. As soon as it starts to take affect Rose tosses the sheild aside, opening herself up for an easy attack and starts shouting at the drow. Drow ****! You're stupid spider queen sent you here with weak allies. Either she sent you here to die or Lolth isn't bright enough to see you weren't good enough to succeed. Selûne will see the spider queen stomped and smashed like a common bug, and it'll be my boot underwich her and all who follow her will be crushed beneath! Grol's last words appear to shock Paavu out of his currently glory-minded state a bit. Enough at least for him to not have immediately cheered at the fall of another worthy foe, and instead take a moment to drink in the scene. "Another victory destined to be tainted either way." He mutters while brushing aside the other bugbear as if after thought. Just as he pulled back in readiness to run the bugbear through, the Drow's word of warning finally gave him pause. Although if she expected panic, fear, or defeat out of the goliath, none of it's present; only a ice gold stare of annoyance and chilling fury held just in check.
Rose's words, which later Paavu would've considered endearing in a way, garner little in the way of reaction out of the goliath in the heat of the moment. Then and there, he only had eyes for the Drow. Although the bugbear he kept in his peripheral as much as possible during the stare down. In seeing said Drow barely phase, if phased at all by the taunt, Paavu actually lowers his weapon, but still kept it hand. "... *sigh*... Before this leads to one of two inevitable conclusions, I have question for you... Victory or Survival?" He asked the Drow, and at any hint of confusion immediately elaborates.
"If its survival you seek, Paavu can assure you safe passage out of the castle." He immediately holds up his shield arm out to the side, in a halting gesture for those behind at best, and at worse act as blocking arm for any itchy trigger fingers. "After all, given the state of Dwarf, it is unlikely you don't already have what you seek from him anyways. You can even take the bugbear with you -- /if/ he's amenable to it -- to be your body guard for all I care. Only the dwarf is a concern for me." His eyes narrow to dangerous slits. "But, if its victory you seek, then kill him. Understand that it will be a hollow one, however, for Paavu is in a most FOUL mood. So, unless you wish for most painful and extensive death, Paavu willing to provide." His grip tightens on the Yklwa in hand. "So choose."
Intimidation: 21. (Bardic inspiration included in roll. And if at advantage for whatever reason: 9.).
Burgee pauses as the Drow holds Gundren hostage, but then begins concentrating intensely on the drow and her mind. But once Paavu speaks, he holds his action. The brute has bought you a few seconds dark elf, he thinks to himself, but you shall not leave this hall without his protection. His hand rubs one of the intricate symbols on his staff and his eyes focus only on the drow. He waits. But will not wait long...
If the drow so much as hints at moving the bolt closer to Gundren, Burgee will begin conjuring images of the last fire bolt engulfing the drow and surrounding her and Gundren in a sea of flames so hot that everything within the flames is melting including her and Gundren. Burgees focus becomes intense as he calls upon the strength of winds and storms to enter the drows mind. (INT DC12 or 2 damage)
As Rose taunts the drow, she simply smiles back, as if the taunts do little to phase her. Whetehr due to Roses lack of knowledge of Lolth herself, or the drow caring little for the taunts of an inferior being. A tiny little midget like you? I think not! if anything, the drow looked bemused at the chihuahua barking. While Paavu was clearly more threatening, she seemed to only be slightly phased by it. It was like she knew just a bit more than she should.
I have a better proposal. I slink into that room over there, and leave of my own accord. And should I be allowed to do so, I will consider sparing this wretches life. As you have surmised, He has, unintentionally given me what I needed to know. And while I should kill him to deny you of it .... Knowing what he knew does me no good if I am but a corpse, no?
She would begin to shuffle around the edge of the room, making her way, slowly to the door, with the bolt still firmly pointed at the dwarf, but her finger is lax, even while on the trigger. I do wonder if you know just what mischeif this Gundren as gotten you all involved in....
Without lowering the arm, Paavu slowly shook his head. "If you were anything but a drow, Paavu would take word alone. But your people's reputation not undeserved." He states flatly, still keeping an eye on the bugbear for any sly acts as much as he could at the moment. "And as said before. Paavu here namely for Gundren. Not care of Gundren's extended business. Not care of drow business. Not care for posturing." He replied earnestly, for at the end of the day, he was a principled mercenary that way. After which he sighed, and shook his head before wordlessly shrinking back into his normal height. After which, he looks to his yklwa, and cast it at her feet. Not that he needed it to kill her anyways, but the token of faith was clear enough.
"There. Paavu still need escort nameless Drow out of back way. Allies twitchy. Not trust otherwise if not least one go with part way at least, Paavu thinks. Allies stay. Guard this one." He gestures over to bugbear. "And tend to that one." He gestures to Gundren. "In meantime. You even free to keep weapons to as you go. But these terms you accept now. Or Paavu keep word. Start with legs. Then arms. Make you regret trampling over Paavu's word. Make regret even being born." He said with an assuredness of a man having not only seen a good deal of atrocious; but also, if perhaps with some minor degree reluctance, been forced to enact themselves.
And if she didn't accept the deal at this point, his dropping the shield arm would -- in his mind at least -- be signal enough for the others to cut loose again.
OOC: Was that 22 roll in response to Burgee's "sea of flames"? If so, ignore below, otherwise... Burgee still will attempt if drow makes any move other than to drop Gundren.
"I'll wait no more," Burgee says aloud, "Drop Gundren and my friend here can escort you to safety, but your time to decide is this instant." Burgee continues focusing on wildfires and storms and intently looking at the drow. If any move is made aside from dropping Gundren, Burgee will fill the drows mind with thoughts of flames consuming everything around her, including Gundren. (INT DC12 or 2 damage) [original damage was 2, see spoiler above for actual roll]
She weighed her options. And, eventually after several seconds, pulled the crossbow away from Gundrens neck, though she keeps it aimed at the man as she approaches, her finger clearly itchy. Then all of you, enter this room now, surround your friend, and I'll pass on my own. You're as likely to stab me in the back as I'm 'escorted' as anything else. I feel that's a fair compromise. I can leave without any trouble from here anyway. So I don't need and escort. And your precious dwarf still lives.
(the nat 20 is if burgee's spell goes off for the save)
After neither seeing a reaction to any spellweaving(which, nat20 is a good reason why!) or the casting of it in the first place, Paavu just stares at her for a few seconds before slowly nodding in acceptance. "If by friend you mean Gundren, then... this is acceptable." At that, he looks back to others, both to gauge their reactions and given them a warning look if they appeared even the least disagreeable. At this point he didn't even care if her first act would be to call the guards the moment she stepped out of the room. For the goliath was confident they could hold it, if push came to shove. Just so long as Gundren was given the care and time to recover, a small army of goblins hardly mattered much to him.
As the others hopefully began shuffling their way inside with wolf pup in tow -- which as a last minute reminder, he gestured for Rose to start guiding the beast inside on her way -- Paavu inevitably turns on the Bugbear. and began speaking in the Bugbear dialect of Goblin, which compared to the small ones, was more crass and deep in ways.
"What of you? You want live? Maybe you work for me. Good coin in mercernary work. Not maybe get killed by other goblins when find out you let king die. Certainly others not let take command in Grol's place. Certainly not worth hassle of leading. Get you killed more likely than merc work in end."
Persuasion: 5(if needed), and if at advantage when shown coin or other reasons: 9.
Rose nods he acceptance of the deal. Fine. She can go. Rose will call the pup and guide her so she doesn't get in the way of the drow amd then will comply with the agreement. Once the drow is out of the room Rose will tend to Gundren but until then Rose maintains her eyes on the drow watching for any trickery
Burgee relaxes, if just a little, ”Agreed," he mutters. There is so much more on his mind but he decides it's best not to tempt fate so keeps the thoughts to himself. He moves cautiously toward Gundren, making way for the drow to exit.
The drow slips past you all once she feels it's safe enough to do so, when everyone is closer to Gundren. She makes her way out through the way you all came in. Lark reluctantly allowing her to do so. Everyone gathering more or less around the dwarf. The Bugbear watching as this all goes on. Having seen his king die before his eyes. The massive king Grol... Gundren laying still. Battered, bruised and beaten. It even looking like a chunk of his shoulder had been.. eaten... Though only the meat, luckily.
The bugbear staring now at Paavu as he begins speaking to the bugbear, but somewhere along the line.. Paavu says something that would be termed as an insult... The bugbear spitting at his chest. Never work for slayer of Grol. You is strong, but you not worthy of loyalty. You not let me eat what I wish even if I do. the contempt in his eyes was clear, but he didn't seem to be attacking. His eyes fell once more to his fallen leader.

As Rose comes back, wolf in tow - Unaccosted so far, she makes her way to Gundren, and begins checking him out. Her vast knowledge of dwarven bodies aiding her as her attentions are actually able to wake him up. Augh.... **** me... sideways... everythin' hurts.... his eyes flutter open, as he looks around, seeing himself surrounded by a ragtag team of adventurers, not a single one of them he recognized. As the situation came back to him, he sat up quickly, grabbing his side in pain as the action flared up. He was much haler than he otherwise would have been, thanks to Selunes Sanctuary, but he was still in very rough shape, and his shoulder started to leak blood. He was naked, aside from his knickers.
D-Did ye beat them all? Are they dead? How'd ye all find me... and.. not that i'm not thankful mind ye, but .. why would ye all come this way o' the forest? I don't recognize any o' ye. Have ye heard anything about my friend... Sildar? Is he safe? We were ambushed by goblins... on the trail... ... and then... and .. then...

Rose puts a hand on over the most gracious looking wounds on Gundren, using the last of her spells to heal the dwarf. Cure Wounds7We'll explain everything later. For now let's get you out of here, we are safe for now but we havent cleared the entire ruin. Suffice we were tasked with coming to your aid. Rose helps Gundren to his feet and if needed attempts to give him a shoulder to lean on. In Goblin Rose speaks to the bugbear. You best be careful. Paavu kill the not so mighty Grol. Make short work of you. Best you keep mouth shut or Paavu take head for good measure.
The goliath somenly nodded to the bugbear. "Good. Paavu would not want loyalty bought by coin anyways. But, loyalty to dead king strong. This, Paavu must respect. But--" He balls his hand into such a tight fist, that the knuckles pop with little effort. "Little flower make one good point. Will you fight Paavu out of loyalty to dead king. Are others loyalty strong enough to do same. To hunt down king killer? Or you too late slayers past, and forget whole mess?" He asked frankly, and depending on the answer, would either accept the duel then and there, short though it may be.
Or, he would nod and apologize before going in for a swift knock out uppercut, binding the bugbear inevitably in rope, then taking Grol's weapon along with his Yklwa, claiming the later as his prize for felling the giant. Even though some small part of him would feel it to be undeserved. In either case, he'd look to Burgee and ask(though in the duel's case, it wouldn't come until after), "Think you can create fog cover again? Or, do we rest here? Maybe take out all if going to be ongoing threat in area?"

The healing energy flows through Gundren, and his arm heals over to the point of scabbing at-least, and he hisses with relief, at the sudden recovery. And almost touches his own wounded shoulder, but thinks better of it. Suddenly realizing he's almost in his birthday suit before complete strangers, masking his face with a soft cherry flush of embarrassment. Ahm sorry ye have tae see me in this state. But nothin' we can do 'bout it now. he swallowed hard, looking over everyones faces.
The bugbear itself, saying The hob will take over where Grol is not if see chance.... and...clearly about to refuse but about to start retorting to Rose, is cut short, as Paavu's fist knocks him out cold while he was distracted. It seemed likely that Paavu's answer is that he would try to avenge the king if he could. The bugbear falling down with a limp thud. Gundren chuckling weakly at the sight before adding in to Rose's comment, as he finally shuffles himself against the wall.
We can't leave... Not without me map.... if I lose that map, the one the drow n the bugger were arguin' over... then me lifes work is lost.... And I may as well 'ave died 'ere... I can understand if ye folk need tae rest... but we cannot leave this place without the map. I know ye folk aint the ones I hired... but i can .. make it worth your while... if you retreive it for me.... when you're rested...
Rose gives Gundren a confident smile and nods. We'll get the map, assuming the Drow didn't take it with her. Though we will have to be careful going forward. I'm not sure I have the energy to cast any of my more complicated spells, and I doubt we'll get a long enough rest here. But if we take some time I might be able to bless us with Selune's sanctuary again should a large fight break out. It seemed to work well...until they had the bright idea to attack me At this Rose laughs as she rubs one of the open wounds still on her and winces briefly as the poison in her veins finishes its course. Rose would pet Yul on the muzzle, and collapse into a sitting position. I just don't feel like it's a good idea to let a half na...fully naked and badly injured dwarf follow us into unknown territory.
"Aye, I've got a bit of strength left, I can conjure the fog. But a rest would do me good. If we run into any trouble, I've got just a few tricks left." Burgee regards the dwarf briefly but hurries toward the door to peak and listen down the hall to see if he can surmise where the drow may have disappeared to. (Perception: 8)
"I don't much like letting that harlot loose. I could certainly use the rest, but..." he looks back at Paavu, "You seem to have plenty of energy and you lass," he looks over at Rose, "you're likely right, may not be much rest to be had here. Can we get him moving?" and he looks back toward Gundren, then over at Lark, "Lark, what say ye? Can you make it a bit longer mate?"
The goliath is silent for at least some time. As swift as he had been to act, the last words from the knocked out bugbear left him contemplative, hard as that may be to see past the helmet. However, the words do not fall on deaf ears, for Paavu eventually turns briefly to acknowledge everyone else before going over to tie up the bugbear for the time being with some hempen rope. A chance. Not now, and perhaps not for many years. But, Paavu would give the bugbear a chance to avenge his king at a later date, or so he silently promised in his head.
"Not good to move either way. To close to night. You four--" He gestures to all the others. "Prepared poorly. Need rest in castle anyways. Or some place warm. No want inglorious in winter. Not when it is not time for the final watch." Paavu states, as he himself finally dug out his own spare traveling set and passed at least the thick, bear hide of a top on to the dwarf to wrap himself up. "Not want hobs in charge as well. Become separate entity at best, but still trouble for travelers. May even work better with drow in future. 'cause more trouble for us, at least." He says, nodding himself more and more with each point brought up. "no. We rest briefly. Wait for some come to speak with leader at point. Maybe catch some off guard. But we wait here. Recover a bit. Then, we go search for other hobs and leaders and map." On that note, Paavu begins looking around the room for anything he can use to brace the door.
Worst case scenario, he a length of his spare silk rope around the handle and his shield arm, but ONLY if unable to bar it some other way. "Little flower tell Yue to stay here. Guard dwarf, maybe. Leave plenty of other food. Or even let--" He stops, realizing a flaw, and with a heavy sigh says, "We forget bodies outside. Paavu go try retrieve them with Lark help at least. Keep eye out for Paavu. But rest stay. Search room. Bar room until we come back. Okay?" The words came out more a statement then request. Yet, he at least paused long enough for them to register and for argument before with Grol's mace in hand, made his way out to start carrying bodies over his shoulder and into the room roughly two at a time; only to eventually dump them in the adjacent room to the northwest of Grol's room.
Yes, it would be smelly business. And it was likely an act of futility. But, the goliath had to try.

Occassional Dungeon Master.
(Prefacing this that the roll will not affect his reaction to the deal by much. Just getting it out of the way ahead of time:)
Insight: 5(Passive 13).

((OOC - no, it was a DM roll))
She weighed her options. And, eventually after several seconds, pulled the crossbow away from Gundrens neck, though she keeps it aimed at the man as she approaches, her finger clearly itchy. Then all of you, enter this room now, surround your friend, and I'll pass on my own. You're as likely to stab me in the back as I'm 'escorted' as anything else. I feel that's a fair compromise. I can leave without any trouble from here anyway. So I don't need and escort. And your precious dwarf still lives.
(the nat 20 is if burgee's spell goes off for the save)
Occassional Dungeon Master.

Sildar? Is he safe? We were ambushed by goblins... on the trail... ... and then... and .. then...
Occassional Dungeon Master.
Rose puts a hand on over the most gracious looking wounds on Gundren, using the last of her spells to heal the dwarf. Cure Wounds 7 We'll explain everything later.
Insight: 8.

Occassional Dungeon Master.
