Gundren nods, weakly. Aye.. That's fair. Chances are though she did... she works for some man called 'the spider' or some such nonsense. If we lose' er we lose the map. But if you all are willing, I'll pay ye, tae find her, and the map. One way or the other... that map must be found. And hah.. I didnae mean here... if you didn't kill them all, that would simply be inviting death. We should find a place outside. Don't worry too much about me bein' in the buff... ifn' i remember correctly... on my way in I was drug past a room with some cots n' blankets... grab the lot of them, to keep me warm.. and deprive them of comfort when the time comes... Ooor... just lock us in... or not.. Can ye grab me the blankets.... 'afore ye lock it. And we should be fine. But whatever we do, we shouldn't linger overlong... may 'ave to pretend that Grol's still alive if we want this ruse tae work.
Lark moving to help Paavu as much as he possibly could, after responding to Burgee that he Can indeed. Gotta be quiet though. We've been lucky so far, so we better not push it. Had I not noticed whatever that snake thing was.... we might have already had the entire place collapse on us already. But if we need to pretend... to be Grol, let me do the honors!
As they do, Burgee peeks out, and tries to look, but unfortunately, the footprints are so faint it's hard to tell.. but she likely went north, the same direction you all came in. Paavu, taking the first of the bodies, Paavu would see that the room was already occupied, by three strangers. A Female Elf, with silvery-white hair, who was naked and chained to the wall. Her body was slender, though one of the tips of her ears was missing. Her skin was tanned, or otherwise naturally dark, but she was clearly not a Drow. Rather it would seem like she stayed out in the sun quite often. A male tabaxi, with leopard pattern fur of golden-tan, and black spots, sat bare, also chained to the wall. Lastly, in the corner, also bound, was a tiny female Tortle, who was as bare as they could be. She had the build of a fighter, all of them unconscious, in similar manners to Gundren. Though it seemed like they had been here even longer...
"Thing is, if they have beast like snake thing, they find easily enough. Catch up easily too. To the nine we go one way or another. Better we go as warriors, and not as prey." Paavu replied as he himself hefted up the bodies in the current room for dumping into the next. Having momentarily been distracted trying to squeeze into the next room, seeing the new prisoners elicits a heavy sigh, followed by his tossing the corpses off to the side within the same room.
"Of course gobs not make choice any easy... Little flower. Bird... friend. Come here. There are more in need here. You see to them while Paavu gathers other bodies. Bring them in here. See if key on bodies first though, Paavu suggests." The goliath suggested, as he himself stepped out of the prisoner room to leave the two to their work. As Lark and he are hopefully on their way out at that point, he stops long enough to leave behind Grol's weapon, along with his bolts and crossbow. The latter of which he offers to Gundren. "For protection just in case in meantime." On that note, he carries on out with Lark.
Before the duo get too far from the room on their mission to collect blankets next before handling any more bodies, Paavu said to Lark, "Not bad plan. Pretending to be Grol. Maybe while out, you pretend to be Grol's voice for now. If meet others that is. Convince them even to go off alert if already so, eh?"

Rose got up and shook her head in disappointment. Of course she would have the map. Damned Drow, but we couldn't let her kill you Gundren. Still we will track her down and the map. What is so important about this map anyway? Likely before Gundren had a chance to explain in full, Rose's attention was called for at the announcement of new prisoners. Rose heads over to free and tend to the wounded as best she could without her magic. Before leaving she says If we are to be rescuing all these people staying here might be a death sentence. I say we leave and head toward somewhere safe. If even only for the night. We may have to come back, there might be some clue as to where the Drow is going. I don't mind staying but not with a bunch of injured and weakened innocents. After giving her opinion on the matter she would head towards the new prisoners, leaving Burgee to search for the key Paavu was hoping to find. Upon entering the room with the prisoner's Rose stops in her tracks, awe struck. Ja'ree? Dot?...Gwen? By Selûne what are you doing here? Ah let me get you guys free. Rose rushes tonundo their bonds, starting with Gwen and working her way over to Ja'ree and Dot. Can you guys stand? I'll get you out of here I promise. Selûnes mercy this not good. Burgee give me a hand with them will you? Rose will try to help escort her previous party back to Gundren, where it's relatively safe.
Lark nods, and says If it comes to it, I will. But I don't wanna risk pushing our luck for no reason. just get this over with and get ourselves in that room. The sooner the better. As long as they don't see me... I can pull it off better. It's a good thing you got him to talk, or I couldn't even try in the first place. And it doesn't seem like that drow alerted them.
The last of the bodies eventually being brought inside, as well as a swath of four blankets.. ironically just enough to supply each of the wounded with some warmth. At this point, Lark would point out the Cooking pot that was in the back of the room near where the drow was. it was full of nothing more than boiling water, but.. the fire beneath it was still strong. Mm... Ah. I suppose there's no harm in telling you ... since if I die it won't matter much anyways. I had hired a group back in ol' neverwinter... Tae escort some supplied to us where hte map led to. The old town of Phandelver is actually a relic of the past. Beign the staging point for the Phandelvers Pact, signed by several races, long ago. The pact was to bring a lasting peace (not that there were a war goin on mind you) but they had found a location, rich in magic.. somewhat like a leyline. It allowed them to craft magicks, and enchant items with near wonton abandon. The pact was formed so that none could use it to gain power over the other. And it had, until I found its location, via that map.
I had been on an expedition to finally re-discover it so that once more the people could widely prosper, and my name could go down in history. Leave me mark on the world, ye know? he had been about to continue when Rose got up, and left him there, and he shrugged. She had more or less gotten her answer. And he had enough strength to move himself to be closer to the cooking pot, before laying down on the stone floor and closing his eyes to continue recovering until something else occurred.
Lark suggesting that the key was likely on the .. well.. king. So he goes over and checks, and surely enough, along Grol's loincloth is a key, that likely went to this barracks prison. Handing it to Rose when she rushes past after discovering exactly whom they are...
Gwen is the only one who doesn't respond, despite being clearly conscious. Dot, however, looks up weakly. While Ja'ree looks up, almost unable to believe what he is seeing. W-Wha? RRRose? Ho... How did you get here? How did you... find us? Lark walking up, saying Err, Uh, I can heal each of them once before I run outta energy... but after that I'm.. spent.
Rose gave Lark a nod saying simply Do it. Please. Before turning back to the others, her eyes eventually falling on Gwen and lingering there for a while before turning back to Ja'ree. Was sent here to rescue someone else. Didn't know you were here. Last I knew you guys were still out east in Yartar. But I could ask you the same thing. In fact I did! Why are you guys hear? Get bored of delving into the Evermoors or something? Seriously though what happened? As Rose listened to whatever they had to say her eyes wouldn't, couldn't, stop wandering back over Gwen. If eye contact was made she'd give her a soft smile before blushing and turning back to Ja'ree or Dot as not to be too obvious. The whole while Rose couldn't shake a feeling of guilt. She had left them when Selûne had indicated she was mo longer needed to keep them safe. It was a hard goodbye, but necessary. But they were here and hurt. But Selûne brought you to these new folk for a reason. And by doing that you saved your old friends. Rose'ssmile widened as she realized this must have been part of Selûnes plan the entire time. What a genius she was. Still Rose wished her grand plans would give her less of a scare at times, but her confidence in her Goddess was all the more stronger knowing that she put her on this path.
Paavu frowned, knowing the dangers still lurking in the castle, but held his tongue on the healing suggestion. If they had but some vitality restored, then there was opportunity there. To that end, he -- after making sure the door was barred in some fashion or another -- quietly went over to start cooking; added some some bear rations, chopped up potaters, bread, and what meager seasoning he had on hand to the mix for a hardy and warm meal for all to share. A nice meal to go along with their short rest.
(Deducted 5 days of rations for the stew, since its a meal being spread out.)
He otherwise remained attentive to the story, though showed no personal concern over the objective. While an enchanted blade and armor were nice, possessing such a ready source of crafting such items...Paavu scratched his chin, unable to fathom being able to hold on to such a thing without an army or much backing. So, as he looked down at Gundren again, it bordered between pity and admiration. This was a dwarf that despite condition and rivals remained determined to see the dream through... or die trying.
"... Paavu know not much of old escorts but maybe the one back in town. Determined but sad creature. You see when return." He nodded as if had spoken of something wise. "As for promise of coin. Paavu aid in finding. Perhaps not in hunting drow at this point. Too dangerous with you all in this condition. Limits of miracles. Limits of long stay too clear. Only slow down, and make all prey to vengeful gobs. Within, we pick apart. Use numbers against them in tight corridors." He nods again in the same sagely manner. Whether others agreed or not, and whether they wished to flee or not, the Goliath's decision had been made. 'Let a thousand blades fall upon this form to keep compatriots safe. This is the way' He thought grimly as he eventually filled up his mess kit bowl and passed it on to Dot first. Having only the one, he trust Lark or Burgee to do the same for the others.

The water, already boiling, with Gundren, not quite asleep, but resting, now that he had been healed, bubbled and frothed as the various ingredients were placed inside it. Taking about ten minutes to fully cook properly. In that time Rose began to speak to her former comrades. All of them rubbing their wrists now that they were free. It seems like they had been beaten near death almost daily.. Each of them taking their blanket, to, if nothing else, cover their bodies up with to keep other prying eyes from seeing them laid bare. It also seemed like Gwen had taken the most severe beatings.. Well... Gwen said, speaking for the rest for now. We had left the inn a day after you did, and... we followed up on that lead we were given by your Moon god. We had managed to catch a dragon sleeping on its hoard, and well, with some clever tricks.. we dropped a rock on its head from very high up... After that.. we had found that its hoard was worth almost twenty thousand gold.... So.. we took what we could.. went back to town... and purchased a cart to carry the rest.
We converted it into smaller .. easier to carry valuables. And after a few tips, we heard of another place nearby where you said you were going, so.. we thought we would meet up with you, and perhaps convince you to join us in another venture... But on our way.. we were ambushed my this crazy powerful person... and he drug us here to .. well... be used for something... but they.. never quite told us what.
Gundren, shifted with the crossbow in hand, making sure he could see the door. Yeah... dot chimed in. And the drow ***** , as well as the bugbears were slapping us around on the daily. Then she'd heal us.... and they'd do it again the next day... Seemed to like taunting us with our clothing off as well... Seems like they took it somewhere inside .... or perhaps they burnt it for firewood.
In any case.... We're glad you found us.... Ja' said, his head lowering. Indeed. I was starting to miss our little ray of moonlight. Perhaps when we get out of here... and.. we're better armed... we can continue our little traipse? By the way.. who are your friends? Dot eagerly taking the bowl as if it were a five star meal at the fanciest restaurant, even drinking the water-broth, if only because it was warm. It was lucky this side of the 'castle' had no exposed walls like the rest seemed to in many places.
Thank ye... was all Gundren could manage in response to Paavu's comments as he barred the door, usign one of the chairs across the doorbar slots. Lark entering the area where the former moon party had been, and healing them each in turn... it would seem he was in high spirits as all but Jaree felt the full force of healing wash over them.
It was at that moment, a Knocking came on the one door to the room. Lark jumping, and running out whispering Whaddya think I should say?
Burgee sat near Paavu and took in the scene. He was not quite sure what to make of everything that was goin on. These friends of Rose's, clearly close friends that she trusts captured and held prisoner. To what end? He looked at Gundren. The dwarf made sense. His map and his knowledge could prove useful. But still...
He leaned closer to Paavu. "What do you suppose Grohl and the Drow intended for these then?" He asked as he nodded to the prisoners. "Seems they've been through an ordeal for sure, but why just keep torturing the poor souls?"
He welcomed the additions though since they seemed to be trusted. He hadn't known Rose but a short while, but her heart proved true on more than one occasion.
He stood and walked toward the others and introduced himself and accounted how he'd come to meet Rose and the others. And he tried to pull Gundrden into the conversation too. All the while hoping to get an idea of what the Drow and king were after. And perhaps a clue to how they might yet find the drow wench. For he was not yet done with her.

Paavu looked back at Burgee at length, and in one word summed up his thoughts: "Fun." The goliath was no fool. Even if he understood Grol to be of a like mind and spirit when it came to fighting, strength, and honor, the bugbear had his vices. If they had perhaps met under different circumstances, or given a few years to work together...
Wordlessly, he returned his attention back towards the conversation between Rose and her friends, and would think no further of 'what ifs' or 'maybe'. Such thoughts were for the weak, the simple minded, and the useless. And he was not so old as to be two of those things at least. Not yet.
After knock...
Paavu puts a hand on Lark's shoulder in as much a comforting gesture as it was to just keep him still. "Keep simple. Say 'What you want? Grol busy with new playthings." He quietly explained to Lark, releasing him on that note. Then turning to the others, he holds up a finger to his lips, hopefully quieting any ongoing conversations. Dot just rolled her eyes before looking around for that one bugbear's mace.
Rose listened to the story intently, and in other circumstances she might have done so with glee as she did love stories such as this, but given the circumstances she couldnt help but have a worried look on her face. Though she was still happy to hear the group found success with the lead she gave them prior to leaving, she frowned at the part of them seeking her out though she wasnt all that surprised. Well leave it to you three to make a fortune just to lose it to a drowRose jokes half heartedly. But seriously guys I'm sorry for what happened. I'm just glad Selûne brought me here or who knows what might have happened. But I promise we'll get you all out of here and figure out what to do once we are safe. Rose blushed at Gwen's little moonlight comment and smiles softly at her. I missed you too Gwenny. The big guy is Paavu. Our lovely goblin storyteller here is lark and well Burgee introduced himself. Selûnes mark brought me to them and well back to you it seems. I'd love to catch up more when we get a cha-Rose cut herself off at the knock on the door. She looked at Paavu and whispered Whatever you say just be confident about it. I know you can do it. Rose places a hand on Larks shoulders and says Selûne will guide your words

Performance.... 23 + 2
Gundren grumbled a bit, but responded. Rolling over so one side didn't get too toasty. As I said... he was after the map, and any other information I knew. Of which he got the map, and some false information. I fed so that they'd keep me alive a wee bit longer... just in case my original hires... But it seems they left or.. died. Though the one the large one among you speaks of sounds somewat familiar....
Gwen smiling, despite her injuries. Well.. we didn't exactly plan it that way... We were coming to share with you, since.. it wouldn't feel right otherwise. But I'm sure they would have just kept beating us till they got bored or.. one of us died... then they'd eat us... So I'm glad m - our little moonbeam came when she did. We've been here almost a week.. And I trust you... Just give us a chance to recover and.. some clothing... and we can help you.
the knock coming....
What?! Am beating meats. Grol know they here. Grol talk to elf. We find middle. You find sneakers yet?
Err, uh.. No Grol... Strange fog come in, and some goblin missing. But no sign of anyone, anywhere.
You let fighters abandon post?! All of you, leave, outside, no come back, no eat, no sleep, no fire warmth until you find the sneakers AND the leavers. Or you join the meat-sacks on the wall for week! Go, NOW!
Ah... Y-Yes sir... I take all fighters and begin search now! We find them all before morning
With that, a faint shuffling of feet can be heard, as the Hobb who was on the other side leaves the area. Ok.. Ok.. I think that worked.... Um. But if they're really taking everyone out... if we wait just a bit.... we may be able to move around without any interferance.... The only downside .. is now they're all out.. lookign for us.
Rose gives Lark a reassuring pat on the back Good work Lark. But you're right, while they are all looking around we might be able to sneak out. I know facing the elements has its risks, but I don't think we can keep tricking the Goblins. Maybe while the others rest we can find some spare clothing? Then when it seems clear make a break for it? Has much as I don't want to leave the warm fire I don't think we are safe here. If it was just us.....Rose glances over to Gwen and the others Well I just don't feel like we will be safe here for long.
Paavu held his tongue for added seconds, listening to make sure the Hobb was well and truly gone, before nodding in acceptance. He turns on Rose leering down at her disapprovingly. "Little Rose is being impatient and foolish and untrusting of companions. Companions that have endured week of torments, but proclaim a good long rest is sufficient to rise up." Paavu states dryly. "Would rather they brave elements soon with little rest. And with scattered warriors still fresh to claim skulls upon their finding, and even eager in the finding under threat of Grol. But as worried they need not be, Paavu assures."
On that note, Paavu turns to the fire, stroking his chin in thought. "We take hour instead to rest. Hour to give gobs time enough to leave and be far enough away. Then, we seek clothing. Rob other goods of goblin so they fall in disarray upon return. Already desperate and hungry. Not even think straight... And booby trap entrances, so that if some come early, they not good condition to run away." He started nodded at this point, a plan clearly unfolding at least in his mind's eye.
"Kill stragglers too. Then we bring back gear for warriors here. Then we rest in shifts. Then... then if under larger fog cloud, we leave just before dawn if possible. For closest town. For Phandalin... Gobs be too busy hurting and fighting each other to be of help to enemies or hinder to anyone. This is the way." Paavu stated with an air of finality. And yet, he looked up to the others, appearing to await something. Dot has a vacant look on her face by the end of it all. And yet, with another roll of her eyes, she passes on the soup bowl to go search the dead hob bodies for weaponry and trinkets, eventually returning to the room carrying a pair of longswords and a necklace made out of the top knots of hogoblin and bugbear fingers. Anyone looking at her funny are mutely brushed off as she sat back down by the fire to fully work on her necklace.

Rose sighs and relents to Paavus reasoning. Fine fine, we do it your way. We rest up now and see what we can find. We just need to be careful. I can't mend our wounds. But I agree I'm not eager to freeze to death after all this either. Maybe we can find some information that will be helpful in tracking down the Drow while we are at it. Rose sat down next to Gwen and warmed herself by the fire. A worried frown settling in on her face. If her old group hadn't been here then she would have no problem taking risks. After all, she and the others had Selûnes blessing. But the others...they had no mark, they were no longer part of Selûnes plan. Anything could happened to them, and Rose wasnt sure if she could keep them all safe. Everything that had seemed so simple before just got much more complicated, and Rose didn't like it one bit. Eventually Rose's eyelids started to close, she just needed a nap to feel better. She found herself getting closer to Gwen and wanting to rest her head on her arms but she resisted. She didn't want to make things even more complicated than they were right now. Maybe once they were safe, but not now.
I swear I posted yesterday but maybe forgot to press the button... sorry
"Me agree with big guy," Burgee says in a voice similar to Paavu. Then he falls back into his normal voice, "I have a bit of strength left. I can cover our exit when all are ready to move. But... " He looks at Gundren, "Our business here is not done. We must find that map on our way out, or some clue to her location. "

Everyone seemed to be of a mind to rest. and thus, everyone more or less gathered around the cooking pot, as it was the only source of heat that wasn't related to someone's body or a blanket trapping it close. Occasionally, for the first 15 minutes or so, occasional sounds could be heard outside, but those too stopped eventually. And aside from the occasional shuffle of a body, or a breath, or a cough, it was mostly silent. I know you'll attribute this all to Selune, but indulge me for a moment... Rose. Isn't it a bit strange how the world works? We part ways, only to find each-other again. Her head falling back to the wall for support.
I think when we get some armor .. I'm gonna tear up my blankets and stuff the armor with them.. both for padding on my bruises .. and to keep warm... Gundren nodding and saying That's a quick wit ye got there lass. Smart thinkin....
The rest of the hour passing by, no further noises can be heard outside the door. And by now the sun was long gone. And the moon was high in it's throne. Selune was radiating through some light cloud cover. Over that time, everyone had been able to eat enough to not be hungry but not quite enough to satisfy. But that was good enough. Lark hummed a soft tune the entire time, raising everyone's spirits, Gwen putting voice to the song.
Under moon and star, we travel far. Our light doth shine through the din of time. Far trav'lers we seek fortune and fame, so 'twen were gone, remember'd shall be our names. Our legacy, run'th long and deep, through great blue sky, and windswept keep.
We live each day, for friends of today, gone on the morrow. And those we've yet to meet. Forward we press, forever more. Till our souls are called, to the distant shore. Farewell we wave, to friends old and new. All of us sons of Lathander, and Daughters of Selune. Despite the somber tone of her song, she was smiling softly, with her eyes closed. Strumming an imaginary lute.
Rose shuffled closer to Gwen and leaned back against the wall. Keeping her eyes closed she quietly said Yeah, it's funny how the world works sometimes. Selûne put me on the path, but I didn't imagine I'd see you on it again. I wish it had been under better circumstances but, well I'm glad you're here.
Rose smiled as Gwen sung, taking comfort in hearing her singing once more. Eyes still closed, it would be easy for Rose to fall asleep in such a relaxed state but she forced herself to remain awake. Still at that moment it felt like there was no danger, no enemy that could do her harm. Between Selûnes grace in the sky and Gwen by her side she felt invincible, even if she was tired. I see the Drow didn't take your singing voice. Good. World would be lesser at such a loss.

Dot snorted at the idea of armor, though did look at the blanket wrapped around her thoughtfully. As for Paavu, being no stranger to the mild summer lowlanders called winter, sat apart from the others so that they had an easier time warming up. But not so far as to make casual conversation awkward to overhear. Or the song, as the case eventually came to be. Paavu voiced no complaint, but kept a wary eye on the door throughout it.
"... Paavu know not about this being sons of Lathander. Paavu knows father name not Lathander. Too soft. But it is no matter." He stated after before standing up, popping just about every joint in his body in the process. "It is time. We go to search castle. Find things. Ruin things. Then return. But even with gobbs gone, rest should be vigilant. Only mention having taken fighters. Still chance of stragglers. Still chance of Lark's creature lurking... should kill that too on way out." Paavu spent a moment musing over that last word as he hefted Grol's morningstar onto a shoulder.
Stealth Roll If Needed: 4.
"Hm. Avoid it for now, and deal with other areas first. You lot--" A sweeping gesture is given to Rose's old gang and Gundren. "Keep on toes just in case. And bar room best as I can. We not be gone for too long, but better safe then sorry. Do like Dot do and take what arms can in room." At that, he turns readying to leave before remembering a certain bugbear. After a long and hard look at his unconscious foe, he just looks grim faced over to Dot. She stares back, confused, tired, and wary at first. But looking to the bound up bugbear, and then back at Paavu, she just nods. Not long after the exploration group(PCs) left the room, there would be one more corpse being added to the rest by an all too eager for vengeance Tortle...
"We start with outer areas and work our way around and to center. If see other prisoners. We free. If see other gobs... Paavu is sorry, Lark. But unless you think can convince to our side. They too die." Paavu forewarns the goblin, assuming he had not chosen to stay behind with the others.
Rose was comfortable and didn't want to leave Gwen's side. It was hard enough to leave once, but now she was hurt and vulnerable. Rose just wanted to stay behind and protect her, but she knew they had work to do. Ja'Ree didn't fail to notice the two already eyeing each other and Rose sneaking closer every chance she got. Ha, not reunited for more than an hour and they're already back at it. Rose blushes and turns away, yet still manages to scuttle closer somehow. Finally Rose had to force herself not to fall victim to the lure of rest and stood up with a stretch. Alright let's do this. I'm not much for sneaking about but I don't see what choice we have right now. You guys be safe and we'll be right back. I promise. Rose looked back to Gwen and smiled before grabbing her hammer and following Paavu.
Lark nodded at Paavu's words, saying I don't think these souls can be saved.... They've grown up wild, out here, and they've served a powerful.. and sucessful leader... well, until tonight atleast! They won't want to settle for 'hard labor and minimum wage' I don't think. he says as he gets his gear in order, stretching his muscles a bit, shivering from the frigidity as Burgee simply nods his own readiness.
Gwen just giggling at Paavu's .. lack of understanding and whispering into Rose's ear He's a dear isn't he? But he's funny. her eyes lingering on the Goliath for just a moment or two before turning back to Rose. Whatever you do, be safe about it. I do hope you've gotten over that battle rage you like to do. I'll keep everyone here safe though while you're gone. Just going to keep licking my wounds in the meantime.
The party eventually heading south, and the door being barred. Paavu continually cracking and breaking any loose stones. Making a moderate amount of noise with every step, while in contrast, Rose was a whisper at worst. With both Burgee and Lark being in between them both. They all creep down the hallway, eventually reaching the signed door that read "Danger"
((OOC - I need someone to open the barred door. And your sleight of hand check will determine how much noise it makes when doing it))

Gundren nods, weakly. Aye.. That's fair. Chances are though she did... she works for some man called 'the spider' or some such nonsense. If we lose' er we lose the map.

How did you... find us? Lark walking up, saying Err, Uh, I can heal each of them once before I run outta energy... but after that I'm.. spent.
Occassional Dungeon Master.
Rose's smile widened as she realized this must have been part of Selûnes plan the entire time.

Occassional Dungeon Master.

Well before the knock...

Well leave it to you three to make a fortune just to lose it to a drow Rose jokes half heartedly.
Occassional Dungeon Master.

(To All: Don't forget to hit the short rest button, and roll those hit dice if you need to. Plus a d6 from Lark, as it sounds as if he used Song of Rest)
