"What did he say?"asks Elmar Barthen in response to Maxi. "They're going to get rid of the wizard first,"replies Sildar, and all seem pleased with that as a very good first step.
"I believe his name is Gundren, no?"replies the shield. "OH, wait, MY name. Right, right, well it's Lord Havelyn, of course! No, no, that's not right. He was the Lord. I've been thinking about him a great deal. He was a good man, most often worried about everyone else's well being." He'd say "Tharilim, promise me you'll protect my family and our people when I'm gone." "And of course I'd promise because he was very good to me and I was proud to serve him. He made me a part of his family, even! Hmmm, a name... a name..."
Zeke pulls the Charlatan aside and whispers into Maxie's ear - ''My temple had a teaching, it was a parable about a group of wayward soliders. The lesson of it went something like this: Show a man his fate written in the blood of his compatriots and watch his conversion take hold.'
The barbarian pulls out the first two inches of gleaming metal from the scabbard 'It would be nice to secure ourselves another guide. Our goblin friend was a tremendous asset in our last endeavor. Perhaps a demonstration of the type of punishment that awaits them coupled with a chance of redemption would make for suitable motivation'
Fae would look up from her practices when Garaele replied with a gentle warning against Halia. She’d sit back for a moment to try to reflect back on what she knew of the business woman herself. Truthfully, nothing had stood out to the wizard on any of their interactions, mind you she doesn’t recall there being many. But she was happy to be given the tip to be wary.
As for the boys being ‘left alone’ in her presence, Fae had little concern for them as a group. Arvel dominated intellectual and social interactions and Zeke was surely perceptive enough. Thinking of Ethan on his own came with its own bit of concern. It’s not that she didn’t trust their artificer, far from it, it’s just, he wasn’t the most attuned to social interactions. Sometimes his obliviousness was endearing and could work in favour of his protection, but it could also allow for him to be easily baited. It’s the latter that would worry her. And a miners exchange would have a lot to entice their curious artificer.
Eventually Fae would break the silence with a small assured smile. “Something tells me Maxie may already have a hunch. He did insist on the buddy system while going to meet with her this morning.” She’d nod a little, taking a moment to truly appreciate Arvel’s insight. Fae had been completely oblivious otherwise.
"Zeke! 'Ow brutal! Stay your blade to zese surrendered scoundrels!"
Maxie approaches the Rebrands with a conciliatory smile.
"Mes excuses, mes amis. My overzealous companion seems to zink zat violence is zee key to every lock.
But I 'ave a better idea. Whichevair one of you voluntairs to lead us to zee Glassstaff as quickly and quietly as possible will receive an offair of clemency and be allowed to join zee youngair ruffians in zeir community servaice.

"That's good"replies sister Garaele. She seems to be enjoying her time chatting with Fae and teaching her.
Several of the adult redbrands seem interested in Maxie and Zeke's offer, but it is the larger man who shoves the others back from the front of the cell and grips the bars tightly. "I'm your man. I'll take you up the hill."
"At your service, Ms."replies Tharillim. "OH! My name! That's wonderful, isn't it? I am well, thank you. I do find it is easy for my mind to wander while I'm lost in here, but your visits help keep me focused. Tharillim, Tharillim... I was his wizard, yes, yes... not a bad abjurer actually. Oh, isn't that funny? Abjuration magic is largely focused on protection, and now I'm a shield! But, did I protect them...." He seems to trail off again, lost in his thoughts.
"Well then Tharillim," Elra says, "do you want to stay here with Gundren, or would you like to come with us? See if getting out in the world helps with your memory? If you want to stay with Gundren that's fine, you two seem to have... interesting conversations."
Zeke locks eyes with the larger Redbrand, letting them turn into deep black pools with endless depths (thaumaturgy) and flexes his wings ever so slightly.
'I still think beheading one of them would be prudent....but I suppose I can simply bring back his head if he betrays us, that should serve as a sufficient lesson to the rest of this lot'
"I'm not keen to carry a severed head in my gauntlet, not unless it is sealed up, so the blood doest leek out on everything."
Ethan considers for a moment,
"I do have the new box though. Maybe with the application of some tar to the inside and between the lid and the base, it could be made to hold a bloody head..."

"Well, let us not lose our 'eads over people losing zeir 'eads. But suffic-ed to say zat zis fine specimen 'as seen what we can do to fiair elementals and such, so I am certain 'ee will be on 'is best behaviar!"
"Oh, well, hmmm..."replies Tharilim the shield regarding going with the party once more. "Well I used to be brave, I think, and we had adventures! Yes, Lord Havelyn would take me on his adventures! Although...yes, sometimes he'd leave me behind and say 'Tharrillim, watch over my family for me, I know you will keep them safe' and I surely did!" He seems very proud to have served his Lord well, although then his tone changes. "Although, the Lord, he was there, in the fire... did I save him?" He goes quiet for a moment before adding "I don't feel very brave anymore..."
When 'Maxie' speaks some of the Redbrands look at each other a bit confused by his dialect, but there's an even stronger reaction to Zeke's notion of a beheading from both the redbrands and even the looks of a few faces of the townsfolk. When Ethan starts discussing the possible ways to contain a severed head without a mess, Maxie and Tarja notice Sildar smirk a bit at the pragmatic nature of the artificer.
The largest Redbrand looks unphased by the notion, however, and simply asks "when do we leave?"

Fae too was enjoying the company and warm breakfast in her belly as she'd work on her studies. She was thankful and content to be welcomed to learn here with Sister Garaele. As her mentor discussed varying topics with her, Fae wasn't shy to ask questions to clarify anything she didn't quite grasp. Other times they did discuss topics unrelated to her studies, and it was pleasant to be able to get to know Garaele a little better. As her practice came to an end, Fae would be sure to clean up after herself, putting away any equipment and supplies. She wouldn't rush out the door though.
The wizard would tentatively check with Garaele if it was okay for her to review her spellbook, asking for one more refill on her tea as she did. Should her mentor be interested, Fae would be guilty of gushing and pointing out her two new spells. She had some thoughts and ideas in mind. And as she spoke about them, she could feel her cheeks start to blush. Eventually she'd catch herself and move on to preparing her divination magic for the morning.
"Well," Elra says, "it's okay to not feel brave sometimes. Loremaster Altervast told me once that bravery is something that happens even when you feel afraid. Because you keep going, you know? Just because you don't feel brave doesnt mean you lost all your bravery."
"What did he say?" asks Elmar Barthen in response to Maxi. "They're going to get rid of the wizard first," replies Sildar, and all seem pleased with that as a very good first step.

"Tharilim?" Elra asks, "that might be it. I asked Loremaster Altervast about how something like this could happen to you."

Mindartis Liadon - Eladrin Barbarian | Naivara Siannodel - Half Elf Ranger
Arrila Evenwood - Half Elf Paladin | Callaphe of Setessa - Human Rogue

Tarja is glad that one of the redbrands is volunteering to help.
See? I knew they'd be reasonable! Glad to have your help, sir.

I don't think we'll need to be cutting of any of their heads! Unless that wizard doesn't listen to reason...
