Tarja would wait for Zeke to return, hesitating to follow the trail so late at night. She hoped they'd be able to catch it again tomorrow - but a nighttime pursuit seemed too dangerous, with all of them still exhausted from the day's events. They'd have to head out first thing in the morning.
Fae's eyes were still inked black, a 'side effect' to concentrating on her magic. "Hi Ethan." She'd glance up to Ethan, "Neverbetter." A small tug at the corner of her lips would appear as she'd respond to his ask of how Edgar was doing. But then blackened pupils would shift to look from him to Quinn, back to him before looking back at her feet, unable to find a place comfortable enough to set her gaze. "I bring you mixed news." She'd start honestly. In order to give herself something to keep her eyes on, instead of her wiggling toes, the wizard would begin reaching into her bag. "The imposter got loose." Pulling Ethan's personally crafted restraints she collected while at the scene, Fae would hold it out towards him in her hands. She knew he'd need some explanation and him to process how the imposter got free. "Tarja's nose was able to confirm it's not Arvel. She also caught scent of the real Arvel..." Fae would begin to explain. "Elra was able to make contact with Arvel. The Spider has him..." Her expression would sadden. "Zeke is scouting from the sky in preparation as we speak..." She'd glance back up for a moment, with a sense of urgency. "Ethan, it's time to rest for the night. We have important work to do in the morning... We must rescue our friend."
For a brief moment Zeke thought he saw the shape of a winged flying creature many, many miles to the north, but then it disappeared behind a cloud, not to be seen again. It would have to be awfully big to be seen from that far away...
The group finds that the town quiets down relatively quickly after a brief bit of chatter about the latest incident at the townsmaster's hall. Many of the townspeople seem a bit unsure of what to make of these two sudden events after the initial celebration of the redbrands being driven off and the rescue of the Dendrar family. The remainder of the evening passes without major incident.
“Yes, I believe Elra.” Fae would nod with a tender smile to confirm Arvel’s alive.
Fae’s eyes would follow Ethan’s glance back into his room. “Of course.” She absolutely agreed it would be extremely important for their artificer to secure his projects. “Sorry to interrupt or bring a restless night.” She’d say softly, bowing her head in an apology. “But I felt it necessary to update you.”
As Quinn would buzz about, Fae would watch from the corner of her eyes. When Ethan would speak up to translate the homunculus’ question, her eyes would snap too before glancing away. “Yes... It’s a gene carried on through my lineage...” She’d answer quietly. The wizard has tried to hide it, or stop it from happening in some way through magic, but never could. “I’ve tried to disguise it.” She’d admit.
Though, Ethan appeared decending deeper into thought. Fae would offer a polite smile. “I should leave you to finishing your work and retire for the night.” She’d nod her head to excuse herself.
Fae’s eyes would follow Quinn when he’d go to the door and watch her closely, giving her a look up and down. She’d offer him a polite smile, unable to understand him at any point any more, before glancing away timidly to take her leave. With the door clicking behind her, she’d do one last round before bed.
If Elra was still up, Fae would check in with her to see how she was doing, as well as let her know that Ethan’s been updated. She’d thank the cleric for making the effort to connect with Arvel and updating them all. The wizard would assure that they’d find him.
Fae would excuse herself once again to head outside to Tarja to share her update. She’d thank the druid for remaining outside and keeping an eye out for Zeke as scouted the sky. The wizard could sense through her magic that he was still present, but having those extra eyes to watch, was extra comfort for safety. Fae would also share her praise for Tarja’s superior nose, identifying and tracking the scents for them.
Everyone officially was updated and should now all be on the same page. Fae would take a breath of relief as she gazed at the stars one last time before she’d go to turn in for the night. She felt a little better now that things seemed better organized with a clear path ahead.
Elra, having checked on Gundren to ensure his safety, was watching the brazier. "I should have tried that earlier," she says quietly to Fae. "I just... panicked."
Fae’s eyes would soften as she’d watch Elra stare off into the brazier. Tentatively, she’d reach an arm around the cleric, gently tugging Elra against her for a side hug. Fae really didn’t want to invade Elra’s bubble, but she just lacked the words to express the feelings she shared for Elra in this situation. Of course Elra was overwhelmed in thought at the time... “You tried it as soon as you could.” She’d start softly. “Perhaps you weren’t meant to send right away... maybe it wasn’t safe for him then...” Fae would share some thoughts out loud. “You communicated when it was right.” She’d encourage with a small smile, believing that herself. “We’ll find him, thanks to your connection.” She’d assure gently.
Zeke finishes his sweep through the night skies, invigorated by the night air and the sensation of flight. Seeing nothing immediately pressing, he returns to the Inn, checking the perimeter once before settling in for an evening's rest. Tomorrow he would set out to rescue his friend and make his enemies pay.
The tielfing drifted off to sleep with a smile on his face.
The night passes quietly in Phandalin, even the vigilant Quinn hearing nothing to be concerned about. The sun rises in the morning to reveal clear skies for the new day.
Tarja wakes up and gathers her belongings. She was traveling pretty light - no need for much equipment for her, leave that for the Artificer and his gauntlet. She heads down to the common area and wolfs down a quick breakfast, whatever is fastest to prepare and eat. No time today to be picky. She looks around to see whether her companions are ready to head out.
It just didn't smell like him! I don't know who that was, but it wasn't Arvel! I caught Arvel's scent leaving the town with this impostor... I hope I'll be able to follow it. I haven't had much cause to track humans before.
While Fae lie in bed, she caught herself staring up at the ceiling, mind reeling. She’d tug her comforters up over her head, curling up in hopes of stopping the dread. Sleep was a little difficult for the wizard to find that night, but eventually the darkness took hold.
Fae would wake up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily. Blinking the morning fog from her brain, she’d find herself in her reality and not a dream. Soon enough, she’d start untangling herself from her blanket, scrambling around her room. Did I sleep in?!
About to dash out her room door, the wizard would stop herself. She’d back up. Fae would flex her hands as she’d take in a deep breath to calm her fretting heart and mind. Pulling her hands back to her chest, Fae would turn back. Taking a look at herself in the mirror, ink black eyes would start fading back to her vibrant purple hues. She’d swallow.
Fae would take a moment to freshen up and gather herself. She’d take hold of her spell book in hand, hugging it to herself as she’d pad back to her door. With a renewed breath, the wizard would open it and let herself out for the day. She’d tip toe steps down the stairs to see Ethan and Tarja already up. A soft smile would tug at the corner of her lips.
Making her way over to the table their Master Artificer and Druid sat at, the wizard would gesture to an empty chair. “May I?”
Ethan sits among his half finished devices, materials and tools, deep in thought when Quinn gently shakes his shoulder.
"Δάσκαλε! Δάσκαλε! Υπάρχει κάποιος που χτυπάει στην πόρτα, κυρία!"
"Master! Master! There is someone rapping at the door, master!"
"Hho, huh? Oh right, thanks! It's probably just some visitor, rapping at the door."
Ethan stands up and goes to the door, opening it to find Fae standing there.
"Oh, hey Fae, everything ok? How's Edgar doing by the way, I haven't seen him around in a bit?"
Quinn flies just behind Ethan, looking over his shoulder at Fae, but remaining quiet.

"Wa? Impostor? That wasn't Arvel and he's alive?!"
Ethan goes from a confused look, to a big smile.
"That's great! Oh, rest, right, yeah..."
Ethan, holding the discarded restraints, looks back at the mess of items in his room.
"Yeah ok, I will have to just finish a couple of thing, so that nothing explodes."
Ethan is already thinking how to safely pause the current projects, to keep them from coming undone.
Ethan looks back at Fae.
"It's going to be hard to get to sleep tonight, I think. Thanks for letting me know though Fae, its really great news."
Quinn, who has been watching Fae from the moment the door opened, speaks.
"Δάσκαλε, γιατί τα μάτια της είναι μαύρα έτσι?"
"Master, why are her eyes black like that?"
The little homunculus flies over to the various tools and picks up a mirror and looks at his own face, before looking back at Fae.
"Μπορώ να έχω μάτια σαν τον αφέντη?"
"Can I have eyes like that master?"
"Ha? What?"
Ethan looks from Quinn to Fae.
"Oh that's magic, right Fae? Your eyes go black like that when you use magic sometimes, right?"
Quinn tilts his head from side to side, still looking at Fae, but for the first time, not giving her a look of mistrust.
"Μπορώ να έχω τέτοιο μαγικό, κύριε?"
"Can I have that kind of magic then, master?"
"Ah, I'm not sure, I don't have time to think about that right now Quinn. We need to get these projects stabilised and then get some rest."
Ethan is descending deeper and deeper into thought.

Ethan nods his thanks, absent-mindedly, to Fae, but he is already loosing himself deeper into thought.
Quinn flies over to the door, looking Fae in the eye.
"Δεν πρέπει να κρύβεις τα μάτια σου, είναι υπέροχα."
"You should not disguise your eyes, they are magnificent."
Quinn gives Fae one look up and down before giving a nod of finality, as she begins to turn away.
Quinn then gets behind the door and starts to close it, pushing with his whole body.
Ethan and Quinn get to work and in short order, each of the projects being worked on, are secured and stored away in Ethan's gauntlet.
"Right, time for some sleep."
Ethan looks at Quinn who returns the look with a blank stare.
"Oh, um, you don't sleep of course. You can enter REST mode, but perhaps you should keep a watch instead."
"Θα σε προστατέψω αφεντικό! Κανείς δεν θα διακόψει τον ύπνο σου."
"I will protect you master! No one will interrupt your sleep."
Quinn transforms his arm into its blaster configuration, waving it around, like he is looking for a target.
"Ok, but try to keep the noise down, I need quiet and dark, to get good sleep."
Quinn slows his movement down and then speaks very quietly.
"Ποτέ μην φοβάσαι τον αφέντη, θα είμαι τόσο σιωπηλός όσο το σκοτάδι."
"Never fear master, I will be as silent as the dark."
Ethan smiles and shakes his head, before closing down his light sources and climbing into bed.

As Ethan begins to drift off to sleep, Quinn settles to the ground, not wanting the sound of his wings to disturb Ethan.
Quinn begins to march back and forth from one side of the room to the other, stopping and spinning around when he reaches the wall.

"She is hopeful she can pick-up the scent and we might be able to follow it to Arvel."
Ethan turns back to Tarja.
"So you've used your scent tracking before, but never on humans? Have you hunted using it or do you even do that?"
"Are you a...vegy, um, vegetarian? You know, only eating vegetables?"
Ethan continues to finish his breakfast, while Tarja and Fae do likewise, but fails to even think of checking what Tarja is currently eating.
