Elra takes a final inventory of everything. Plucking a loose feather from Vincent she turns to Tarja "I guess if all else fails we could come back for all these supplies. Something tells me the money and stuff isn't going to be easily tracked back to its owners. And I found this," she holds out the pouch and the opal jewelry. "Does this seem familiar Sildar?" she asks him. "Oh, and there's all this stuff," she gestures to the crate full of goodies. "If we take it back to the cart I'm going to see if this pearl will work with the spell Oghma blessed me with."
At not finding any signs of Gundren and then overhearing the goblin's remarks, Ethanlets out a sigh of relief.
"So they haven't eaten him, oh good, we still have a chance to save him."
At Elrafinding the pearl and remarking about a spell that needs it, Ethanenquires,
"Oh is that the spell that can identify the properties of items, especially those of a magical nature?"
"I've studied the sigils and their configurations for that effect, but I've never tried putting it all together before, never had the pearl that's needed to focus the magic."
"When you use it, I would love to be able to watch you cast, to see the similarities and differences from what I have learned."
Ethancollects the coin purse with the embroidered "R", the jewellery with the embedded opal, and the jewellery with the polished agate.
Taking out the 3 gemsEthanalready has, be puts all of the items into the embroidered coin purse.
"I'll keep all of these together to return to Gundren when we find him."
Ethanplaces the coin purse into his gauntlet.
Looking at the other items, Ethan remarks to Elra,
"You should use that spell on all of these. We have a blue cloak, a horn, a pair of leather boots, a silver tankard, and a set of studded leather armour."
"Actually, I could charge up my Magic Detection HUD, and see if any of them have magic on them first, then you only need to check the ones that glow with magic."
"Oh we have some potions too, it appears. We'll have to check them as well."
Ethancollects all of the coins found and then divides them up for everyone.
"Wow that's 342 gold in total, that's 57 gold each!"
Ethangoes around and hands out the gold to each of his friends. (Don't forget to add 57gp to your characters)
At Fae's suggestion that Ethancould carry everything in his gauntlet, Ethan's eyes go wide as he looks around, taking in everything, estimating how much is here.
"Ah, well I can take a bunch of stuff, but these crates are a little big to get into the gauntlet, and even if we empted them out, I'm not sure I could fit everything."
"I mean, if you think we should, I can try, but maybe we leave the crates and draw a map to this cave? Then we can get someone to come back and collect them?"
Ethangoes through the various other old equipments that are piled around the cave, collecting worthwhile materials for his crafting addiction.
(DMcould I get maybe a few collections of raw materials out of the crap leftovers? Some gp worth of metal, leather/cloth, and wood, maybe? Then I can add it to my inventory for any future crafting?)
"Ah, it's, ah, it's in the woods, to the north, bu..but you won't find it or get past the spi.." The goblin looks quite afraid but stops short, also looking like he regrets saying too much.
The party thinks they might just be able to fit all of the marked cargo on the wagons since one was only half full anyhow, although both would probably be a bit overburdened and they'd surely also have to listen to Finnan and Farnin complain. The task of getting all of the crates down and out of the cave and then back to the road could be the bigger hurdle, however, possibly taking a couple of hours or more, depending on how the party might approach the task. Tarja doesn't see many useful markings indicating their destination, but a peak at the contents of a few reveal clothing, mining gear, cured hides, preserved foods, and other mundane items likely bound for Phandalin.
Ethan thinks if he collects enough of the scrap materials it could be worth as much as 5 gold after some extra effort to clean up or melt down the metal, etc.
Sildar nods to Elra indicating that a couple of the items do indeed look to have been Gundren's. He looks quite worried for his friend after the treatment the old veteran received.
OOC So is someone casting Detect Magic to survey the items, to start?
Elra watches the interrogation as she whispers a prayer to Oghma to show her the magic these items might be made with. (Gonna burn my final spell slot to cast Detect Magic)
When Elra casts her spell she suddenly sees numerous items around her light up with a faint arcane aura. They include the following, along with the dagger that had been picked up in the previous room and any items the party already had, such as her very own cloak.
polished agate large brilliant pearl navy blue cloak horn silver tankard elven leather boots studded leather armor
After reviewing the items in detail with the others, she felt they were in good hands. Fae would do a quick sweep, stopping for a moment when the goblin was in sight. She'd stare him down from the other side of the room while he squeals what little information he does, her hands clenching at her sides, only relaxing them when Arvel leaves him to Zeke.
"Would you like company?" Fae would look to Tarja.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zeke's arm shoots out and grabs the goblin by the leg, holding him upside down and lifting the creature up to look him directly in the eye
'You were saying something about a castle up north?' the words are friendly enough, but being dangled in the air like a ragdoll by a black-eyed, demon-winged brute conveys the seriousness of the situation.
Elra starts point stuff out. "Ethan, that agate necklace has magical properties. So does your dagger Sildar. Same for the rest of these things," she waves her hand at the remainder of the items. "And my cloak, but Loremaster Aldervast already told me what it could do. Maybe I can see if this pearl will work for my spell when we get back to the cart."
Tarja is taken aback by the abundance of magical items.
Where'd a bugbear like this get all of these? All these items, and the potions! Never thought highway robbery on the road to Phandalin would have this much magic haul!
I can try to help identify one when we rest up...
She turns to Fae and accepts the offer of company.
Aye, let's go check on our furry friends downstairs. Bring some meat!
Tarja spends 10 extra minutes to cast Speak with Animals as a ritual before grabbing some more of the salted meat and fish to bring to the wolves.
"It is an impressive haul eh? I wonder if we can derive a way to return some of it like Elra suggested." Fae couldn't help but agree.
"Ouu, good idea!" She'd follow Tarja to the barrels to fill up with some salted meat and fish as well. "Maybe they'll like this better than my jerky." Fae would chuckle at her own poke at herself.
Fae would drop her smile to glare at the goblin when they would pass him dangling from Zeke's grip. She'd point to her eyes with two fingers, then to the goblin and back. Keeping our eyes on you...
"Oh it shouldn't be a problem," Elra says. "It'll take me maybe hour and a half. Should be able to do it on the way there. If this pearl works that is."
"O-Ok, ok, l'look, it's in the big forest to the north. Your people call it the N'Never...something. I, I've only been once, and don't really know the way. I just followed Klarg and the rest. You, you wouldn't make it anyhow. So many spiders!"
When Tarja and Fae go to see the wolves Ripper is there. As they come around they corner they witness the large, mighty wolf tear another wolf's chain free from its anchor. One wolf remains chained, and all save Ripper have collars on and five or ten feet of chain dangling behind them. They turn to defend themselves and growl when approached, although the offer of food helps a good deal.
Elra takes the pearl and owl feather and sits down, praying to Oghma, asking for him to identify or give her the ability to identify the navy blue cloak.
(Identify as a ritual, taking ten minutes to see if using the pearl works)

Hearing the goblin confess, Arvel rises from his seat and walks over.
"Well done, Zeke. See, my friend? That wasn't so hard, was it? Let's go visit your friends now."
The charlatan leads Zeke (still holding the goblin by a leg) to the goblins' barracks where Zeketosses the goblin unceremoniously down to the floor and starts tying him up.
"Good news! Klarg is dead and Ripper and his pack are leaving the caves as we speak. So we'll be letting you all leave shortly."
"But, friendly warning, we'll be alerting the army you stole these supplies from to this location within a day. So you can either hang around hoping to get a little loot for yourself...
...or you can use the time to get yourselves far, far away from here before they arrive. Your choice."
Arvelturns to leave and pauses just before the doorway.
"Oh, and whichever one of you can draw us a map to the castle in the Neverwinter wood can have their armor and weapons back before they leave. No tricks, though. Zeke bears grudges."
Well, looks like the wolves are getting free from their chains just fine without us. Ripper's still in command of the pack; so goes the way of the forest.
She drops off the meat at a distance from the wolves and does not challenge them further, simply saying to them
At Elra's remark about the jewellery needing to be identified, Ethan pulls the coin purse out and empties it into his hand, just as Elra casts detect magic.
"Oh you have that too? Wounderful!"
Ethan's eyes go wide as Elra points out the items with magical aura's, and he whips out a small device and clips it to his ear.
The device has a small piece of glass attached to a short stork, that Ethan pulls forward and flips in front of one of his eyes, like half of a pare of spectacles.
As Elra prepares to begin ritually casting identify, Ethan begins charging the device with magic. (ritual casting detect magic)
"If I can get this charged up, I can watch you cast the spell. It will be great to find out how similar or different it is from what I have been taught."
Ethan lays the jewellery with the polished agate, down with the other magic items, returning the other jewellery to his gauntlet.
Ethan then sits down opposite Elra, with the various items between them, and continues to charge his device with magic.

Zeke stands in front of Arvel as he speaks to the Goblins, snarling and looking large and scary.
Inside, he's chuckling at his comrade's skillful manipulation of the little fiends.
Once the goblins have been secured and settled, Zeke moves to take position near the entrance to the cave, standing watch as the rest of the team gathers what the can from the bugbear's lair. He knows it's important to keep the team fed, clothed and equipped, but he also has no interest in how any of that happens. He'll take care of keeping the rest of them safe as they prepare for the next leg of their adventure.
As he stands watch in the shadows of the forest, Zeke reflects on their battle with Ripper and Klarg. He was skeptical of how well some of the rest of the party would hold up in the face of danger and violence. Fae's ferocity, in particular, surprised him. She seems so quiet and meek, and yet when the blades came out, she the most ruthless of any of them. He'll have to rethink his assessment of the quietly powerful sorceress.
