"Yeah, but that's what I'm talking about. If more knowledge and understanding about magic was shared, instead of kept secret, the world could advance so much faster."
"Back on Lantan, the Tinkerers faction believes that through advancement of mundane technology alone, the world can be ushered into a time of peace and prosperity."
"Now, I believe, as the Artificers faction does, that to ignore magic in this, is a wasted opportunity, but I otherwise agree with them."
"So much hardship and poverty, and unnecessary conflict could be solved with better technology."
Ethan's voice has been getting a little louder has he speaks, but he catches himself and stops, before getting too loud.
Rizen looks around at the four oxen and the size of the party before looking back at Tarja. "I don't think so. I'm but a simple traveler, after all. Best I can do is to stop holding you up. I have a feeling you'll be just fine though. Oh, and a gift, in lieu of proper help. Happy goblin hunting! " Rizen pulls a familiar looking potion from his pack and hands it to Tarja.
Rizen gives Finnan and Farnin a small bow of the head and then starts to walk away out towards the road in the direction of Phandalin, stopping to wave and call back "see you soon."
As Finnan looks out beyond the the brushed in blind at the road he sees the giant pile of crates that has appeared almost out of nowhere and exclaims "what is the seven hells is that?"
I don't trust him. Rotten liar, that one. I hope he hasn't put a curse on us or our things for some reason. Does anyone know how to check for that? Or how to find out what this potion he gave me is?
Tarja holds it at a distance, not wanting to put it with the rest of her things.
Either way, we'd best load this stuff up. Time to get back on the road...
Explaining to Farnin, she clarifies
We didn't find Gundren. He's been taken somewhere else. But we did help save Sildar, and recover those supplies that were bound for Phandalin before being stolen by the goblins.
Why is the potion described as familiar looking? Does that mean it looks like one of the potions we got from the goblins? Or that it's one of our current potions that he stole and gave back? Or should I make a check to see whether I recognize it from somewhere else?
Fae would put a hand on Ethan’s gauntlet and give it a little pat. She adored how passionate he grew when discussing magic and technology. Truthfully, she couldn’t help but agree with Ethan’s view, it was very much like her own. “Perhaps he was being a little facetious. I believe I know of one of the spells he used if that helps. I think it’s called Misty Step.” She’d whisper back to Ethan.
Fae would watch the elf hand Tarja the potion and make his leave. “I’ll be the guinea pig to taste the potions once we’re on the road, if no one else wants too. Since it’s a form of research, I don’t mind. I trust tastes would be safe as someone suggested back in the cave.”
Hearing the halfling, Fae would leave Ethan’s side to join him, “What is it?”

Zeke watches the stranger leave from the shadows, hopeful that his concealment gives him a view of anything untoward the Elf might have planned, but also acutely aware of the ease with which the stranger saw right through Arvel's illusion.
He'd stay on watch while the rest of the party sorted the crates, adding his muscle as needed and only once someone else took an overwatch position - preferably Tarja, who Zeke has come to see as his partner in keeping this crew if not out of trouble, then at least prepared for whatever comes their way.
Investigation/Survival (same lack of a bonus) to watch where the Elf goes as he leaves: 4
The elf simply strolls down the middle of the road and eventually out of sight. You're pretty sure you hear him whistling before he disappears. The potion he had left with Tarja is in a slightly different bottle than the others the party recently found, but the liquid inside looks very much like the potions already identified as potions of healing. All previously acquired potions are accounted for.
Finnan looks concerned while looking at the Lionshield crates and asks "what do you plan to do with all of that?" Farnin listens to Tarja and looks concerned. "I'm sorry about your friend. Not that it's all that important, but if you want to get to Phandalin by tonight I wouldn't tell Finnan that he might not get paid."
With much objection from a surly Finnan about the overburdened wagons, Farnin takes the lead on how best to load up the Lionshield crates, choosing to look at it as a challenge for their skill and experience rather than clients who expect too much. The wagons are hauled back up onto the road and soon are bursting with crates, forcing the party to ride towards the front of each with the halfling drivers, travel on foot, or perch precariously atop the stack of goods if they insist.
Progress is slow but steady on the rough roads as the sun eventually sets over the Sword Coast. It's a quiet night save for the wind in the trees and the sounds of crickets as the wagons climb a long incline. Farnin tells the party that they are drawing close to Phandalin at last.
OOC: Anyone who would like to please give me a Perception check. Anyone have tasks, conversations, etc. they'd like to cover during the trip to Phandalin, such as identifying items? Assuming people get at least some rest on the few remaining seats on the wagons, we can count this as enough down time to officially have leveled up as well!

Perception: 12
Zeke would assume his role backstopping the caravan - alternating with Tarja on point from time to time as they both ensured no ill befell their comrades on the journey into town.
(Just to clarify have we stopped for the night outside of Phandalin, or have we gotten there and are resting at an Inn or the like?)
(Ethan has bunch of work he needs to do as a part of the RP of this level-up. I don't think it would fit very well that he would have easily done that work while on the move.)
(I'm ok holding off Ethan's level-up, until a proper rest, if the others are happy to level now though.)
OOC: Neither Paradox, just pausing the narrative during the wagon ride to see what people might want to do during the journey and allow of the Perception checks.
No worries if Ethan, Arvel, etc. want to hold off on their level up montage for just a bit until the setting suits them.
Will await any more Perception checks people would like to make.
Arvelhelps with the wagons as best he can (which is not all that much), but he is beginning to stop and rub his temples every few minutes. As the wagon gets underway, he slumps himself in the seat of the front wagon, pulls up his hood and promptly falls asleep.

Tarja mostly walks alongside the road, keeping an eye out for goblins, travelers, and the dragon.
She asks Elra to help identify the potions. I could give them a lick, but I don't trust the one Rizen gave me.
I'd kind of rather put off my level up until I get some good rest. Would make more sense, and I think lots of us are going to have things to say about the new level... Communing with nature while walking alongside a wagon and being on watch doesn't seem too good. Is there a reason to take that level up now rather than when I rest for the night, or is it OK to wait? Or is this travel happening overnight?
Fae would offer to help load and arrange the wagons appreciating Farnin’s lack of protest. She’d consider trying to ride in the cart but then decide walking along it would be good exercise for her. She can study another time and perhaps Elra who’s identifying should have priority over space to sit.
"Ouu shiny."
Fae blinks and turns her head to look at a nearby tree, swearing she heard something. With her ears more focused she swears she can hear a familiar coo. Now suspicious, she'd reach into her pocket for some rations and toss a couple seeds on the ground between her and Zeke. After a moment and some rustling, a raven would come strutting out of the bush.
"Ouu piece of candy." And it would pick up a seed to eat before waddling to the next, “Ouu piece of candy.” And move on to the next. Finally, done the pile, the raven would look to Zeke for a moment before looking to Fae.
”Edgar?” Fae would give it a quizzical look before tapping on her shoulder. The raven would let out a loud caw before waddling a little and flapping its wings to hop up. Instead of landing on her shoulder though, the raven would land on Fae’s head, nestling into her hair bun. Fae would look really unimpressed for the first part of the walk. Did my ritual actually work, or did he just find me now that we’re closer to Phandalin?
“How is all the identifying going?” Fae would check in with her friends in case they need any help, though she knows they usually have it under control without her help.
Zeke swears he faintly hears the flapping of wings from a large bird or something of the sort, although just briefly. Something tickles Tarja's senses as well and both of the party's sentinels look up to see the silhouette of a large winged creature fly past overhead, high up in the clouds only lit slightly by the moonlight. It does not appear to be headed towards the party nor have paid any attention to you.
(something like this, but not this large/close)
Will keep the travel paused for a bit longer as I know you guys wanted to identify, etc. I could just post everything, but don't want to step on toes quite yet.

"Agreed."

Ethan frowns at the retreating elf, as he disappears out of view.
At Arvel's, suggestion that the group get moving, Ethan nods agreement and walks over to the crates and asks Finnan and Farnin,
"So how do you want up to add these to the wagons?"
Ethan helps load the crates as directed by the two halfling's.

During the journey, Ethan will pull out the 3 unidentified potions and hand them over to Elra and Tarja.
"Here are the three mystery potions."
Ethan look at the potion Tarja received from Rizen and then pulls out one of the healing potions from his gauntlet.
"That one look just like these healing potions. Here let me have a look."
Ethan takes the potion from Tarja and compares it to the other healing potions.
Ethan takes the stoppers out of each potions and compares the smell as well.
"Yeah, I would think these are the same. They look the same and they smell the same."
Ethan replaces the stoppers.
"Does anyone else want to carry one of the healing potions?"
Ethan pulls out the 2 remaining healing potions.
"Zeke has one already, and we have four left, including the new one from Rizen."
Ethan looks among his friends, to see if any of them would like to take one.
