"We can figure that out when we get to Phandalin," Elra says with a smile. "This has been very interesting. Nothing like the stories adventures coming through the House of Knowledge told me. I can't wait to write to Loremaster Altervast and tell him everything that's happened so far!"
The tiny but overloaded caravan presses on as the oxen pull the wagons up over a long, slow incline and then finally down into the town of Phandalin. As they emerge from the woods and cover the last few hundred yards of bumpy, rutted road a light rain greets the party. Phandalin consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings, some built on old fieldstone foundations. More old ruins, crumbling stone walls covered in ivy and briars, surround the newer houses and shops, showing how this must have been a much larger town in centuries past. Most of the newer buildings are set on the sides of the cart track, which widens into a muddy main street of sorts towards the center of the small town.
Many of the businesses have already gone dark at this hour, but private homes and a few proprietors glimmer with lamp light. Finnan and Farnin bring their wagons to a stop in front of the first building on the left, a large trading post, where a sign hangs with the name 'Barthen's Provisions'."Well, this is the place for Mr. Rockslinger's supplies. We'll see if we can find Elmar and get some of this unloaded." "Then someone can pay us", he adds. Farnin says to you all more sincerely "I do hope you can find Gundren, coin or not."
Still nursing his mangled hand, Sildar says to the rest of you "come on, we can get out of the rain at the Inn." He leads the way down the main street past the blacksmith and other small businesses toward the Stonehill Inn.
(I have a little bit more description to post, but have to run for a bit. No harm in leaving this as is in case anyone has anything to RP, etc.)
(you enter town from the road in the center on the top of the map, Barthen's being the large red building)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing Arvel still asleep on the wagon as the group begins to move off, Zeke doubles back and gently lifts the slender form off the bench and cradles him in his arms as the group makes their way to the Inn. Trusting to Sildar, Zeke stays near the back of the group, keep his head and eyes moving to check the shadows for anything (or anyone) unusual.
As Zeke and the others, or those who are conscious at least, approach they see a large, newly built roadhouse of fieldstone and rough-hewn timbers before them with a wooden sign marking the Stonehill Inn. Before entering, they also get a glimpse of what must be the town center, a circular dirt area large enough for wagons to turn around. Beyond the circle is the town green and to its left is a large building with a sign in the shape of a shield with a blue lion painted on it. To the right of the green is a house with a somewhat odd stone structure in front. A slightly longer look reveals that it's some sort of shrine, most likely to Tymora, Goddess of good fortune, given the carving of a smiling woman on one of the larger, flat stones. Just beyond the shrine under an overhang near the front door of the house sits a familiar elf with his eclectic attire reading something and smoking a pipe. He looks up in time to catch sight of you heading towards the inn, smiles, nods, and takes his leave into the house.
OOC What would you all like to do? The Inn seems obvious given the hour but it's your choice. You can run around and burn the town down if you so choose, of course, although that may alter the story a bit. ;)
Ethanplaces the potions away in his gauntlet for now, agreeing to wait until later to distribute them.
As the wagon's plod along, Ethanzones out completely, not noticing anything going on around him, seeming to be lost deep in his own thoughts.
Later...
As the group enters Phandalin and the wagon's stop, Ethanlooks up and around, only just seeing the town for the first time.
Ethangets out and follows the others, still heavily distracted by his thoughts, not seeing any of the details of the town or their previous acquaintance.
As the group stops, Ethanlooks up seeing the inn,
"Hmm, this looks good."
Ethanwalks into the inn without looking to see if his friends follow or not.
(Ethan intends to walk straight to the inn keeper to see about getting a room, and maybe some simple food to take to his room.)
Zeke will walk into the Inn and look for a place to safely set Arvel down. He'll wait until some else takes the lead in securing rooms while he quickly scans the interior of the Inn for any threats. Once he's sure the main room is safe, he'll check the perimeter of the Inn and then look to find a place to set a watch to secure the team's rooms. He'll take first watch and make sure they have coverage all night.
That one could help me when I can't wear armor, and a wolf's hide isn't quite strong enough.
Throughout the rest of the trip Tarjastays alert, watching the skies for the dragon and the woods for any other creatures that might wish to harm them. The road feels so much more dangerous than the forests...
Approaching town...
Tarjagrows more comfortable and less alert as they near the familiar town scene.
Nice to be back here. I suppose I don't stop by as often as I could - I try to help out, but I'm never quite sure how welcomed my help is. I hope I'm remembered fondly.
In town...
Tarjathanks Farnin for his well wishes.
I hope we find Gundren alive and well. In the meantime, could you keep an eye out for his brothers? Nundro and Tharden, they're the ones who found me in the nearby hills. They'll want to know what happened.
And would pay you.
She follows Sildar to the inn. It's been a long day, and she just wants to rest and start fresh and early tomorrow. And the innkeeper is probably the best person to ask about whether the other two Rockseekers are anywhere around.
The party enters the Stonehill Inn to find a room full of locals, presumably miners, trappers, woodcutters, farmers and the like, all enjoying their dinner without too much revelry. The inn is simply furnished but is well kept, warm and welcoming. Behind the bar is a short, friendly young human male with messy brown hair. He calls out "welcome, welcome to the Stonehill Inn!" "I'm Toblen Stonehill. What can I do for you fine folks this evening?"
"Nice to meet 'ya master Ethan. That's quite the ah, armor? ...you've got there." Toblen glances at the others, especially Zeke. "Well, I've got six rooms available. That's five silver each. We've got plenty of ale, lamb and a nice roast chicken on the spit tonight if you like. Sure, I can get 'ya a plate of cheese, bread, chicken, maybe some nice carrots for your room, if it pleases you."
Elra approaches with Ethan. "Well, we were hired by Gundren Rockseeker to escort a bunch of goods here, so we brought them here. We also found a cave with a bunch of goblins in it and we cleared it out. We also found a caravan that had been attack by a green dragon! It was really cool, and kinda scary. I've never seen a dragon before, but Loremaster Altervast told me once that they're really big and scaly... I'm rambling again," she looks around the room. "Sorry."
She pulls some silver out of her coin purse and passes it across the table. "I'd like a room please, and a meal. Oh, and and I get some extra chicken for Vincent," she summons Vincent from his pocket dimension. "He likes chicken. And mice... really he likes meat. But chicken's his favorite... I think." Elra turns to the party, "So 6 rooms and seven of us. Who wants to share?"
Toblen looks taken aback at first by Elra's summary of their trip and her summoning of Vincent, then looks at her quizzically. He steps back closer and says "I know the name of Rockseeker, young miss, but, ah, let's just say that many here may not believe you saw a real green dragon and lived to tell the tale! I do, of course. Fantastic world we live in. Full of wonder and quite a bit of trouble." Anyone paying attention would notice that most of the patrons closest to Elra took interest in her story. "Alright then, well let's just call it a gold even then for your room and a meal, ale included if you like, and how about Vincent eats for free here at the Stonehill Inn? I'll even keep an eye out for his other favorite snack scurrying about."
Toblen leans in towards Ethan and Elra and quietly adds "if what you say is true, perhaps you're just the sort we need around here. Ruffians been giving everyone a hard time as of late and the townmaster aint done a thing about it!" Just then a woman holding the hand of a young boy approaches and stands close to Toblen. She smiles at the party but admonishes "you hush Toblen or we'll end up like Thel and his family!" She then hangs her head a bit and smiles at the group again. "Sorry, welcome to our inn. Hope you make yourselves at home." The boy excitedly pipes up and adds "mum, I 'aint afraid a' those Redbrands." "Carp's been spyin' on 'em down by a cave and even got away when they chased em'!" He is met with a stern "hush, Pip" from his mother, however. Ethan can see the young lad eyeing his gauntlet curiously, and then studying the rest of the party with great interest as well.
"I'll take the one from Rizen."
just an unstable unicorn.
Ethan hands the potion over to Fae.
"Anyone else?"
Ethan holds out his hands, with the 3 bottles in them.
David Gearlock | Human | Artificer | Revenge Heist
Knox | Warforged | Cleric | Shadowthorn's Out of the Abyss
Working together the group is able to identify the four unknown potions.
Potion of Heroism
Potion of Invulnerability
Potion of Invisibility
Greater Potion of Healing from Rizen (even if you didn't cast Identify, I wanted you to know exactly which healing potion it is)
(OOC: oops, crossposted with Hex. Fixing up a bit)
I could use a potion of healing. Not Rizen's one, though.
So current item details:
Fae:
Tarja:
Ethan:
"So do you want me to store away these other potions?"
Ethan holds the 3 newly identified potions, along with the 2 remaining healing potions.
"Or should they go to certain people in the group?"
"Maybe we give the Potion of Heroism to Zeke? I don't know, what do you all think?"

Even as the wagons are unloaded, Arvel continues to sleep.
When Sildar suggest moving to the inn, the charlatan continues to snore.
