"Is this from New Nineveh?" he asks, and then adds quickly, "Would you be interested in selling it?"
[[ lol....should mention a possible import/export option to Guillame ]]
Brand shrugs, "Perhaps, if you could offer me something superior. As I said, I was hoping that there was something as effective as this, but less...obtrusive. My chain is good, but damnably heavy, and my leather...well, it's not as protective. I'd like both: Is there aught to be done?"
Please don't rush there immediately as I have a lot of work to do to flesh that aspect of the campaign out.
[[ I'm happy to go to a weapon smith next, then stink of life purveyor, or lunch with Minton; Portside can wait until he also tries to catch up with Dalshar. So, he probably needs to head home for that; I assume he is best doing the disguise at a leisurely pace in a secure location. ]]
The man's shoulders visibly slump. "You would be looking for enchanted armour then?" he says, already discounting the chance of a sale.
"Sorry, sir. Although we use magic in the creation of our goods, we are not able to make magical armour ourselves. I would suggest you contract a suitable magus to do the work—Lemane is good. He will be able enchant whatever armour you give him, bar armour made of iron or steel, of course."

Have been to one armour maker. Was going to guy who enchanted armour, unless known weapon seller was in merchant quarter, in which case, stop there first. Will visit portside at a later time.
So long and Smith and Sons is only a minute or two away, go there....otherwise, enchanter dude.
[[Edit: Sorry, the ref to Smith & Sons confused me. Long day. ]]
Brand remembers a knife seller who has a stall in one of the markets in the Mercantile District. It is more or less on the way to either the Lemane's or Smith & Sons.
He makes a short detour to the market and his stomach starts to rumble as he enters the square; it would seem all the food stalls are gearing up for lunch.
The stall he remembers is still in the same place, backed up against the wall of building, and it seems like the same man is behind the table, which blocks all entry to the stall.
"Good morning, sir," says the man as Brand approaches. "I see you are a man of weapons, perhaps I could interest you in one of these fine blades."
There are a variety of weapons on the table, all small, and no two alike. Most of them are made of iron, some of them are bronze and Brand sees another small selection of blades laid out on a separate table toward the back of the stall. There is also a pedal-driven grinding wheel in the centre of the stall next to a table where a young woman is patiently honing a blade on a fine sharpening stone.

"Yes indeed, perhaps you can tell me a little about what you offfer?"
Brand examines the blades near the front, then moves to the table at the back, once more appraising the wares.
[[As mentioned in the description, the front table blocks entry to the stall, but the seller is willing to bring the small selection of knives to the front.]]
Investigation (assuming needed): 17
After examining the range of ordinary blades on the table, Brand enquires as to the blades on the table at the back.
"Special they are, sir," says the man who goes and collects the tray and brings it to the front. On it are a collection of daggers and throwing knives that look different from the others in that there blades seem to be made of a metal other than bronze or iron.
"All the way from Goth, sir," he says. "Made of a special iron called steel, they are. 'Tis stronger than normal iron or bronze and it'll hold an edge longer than either of those two metals."

[[ Does he get a sense of the overall quality of the wares in the stall? ]]
Brand gestures to ask if he can pick up a blade then, if permitted, picks it up and tests its weight and edge.
[[ Assuming he's impressed: ]] "Remarkable indeed; imagine they come at a price. Are they magical, or is this a new metal?"
[[ He listens to the response ]]
Brand nods, "Perhaps a little expensive for today. How much for a simpler blade, something like what I am carrying?" he asks, pulling out one of his daggers.
His previous Investigation check would have told him that this stall doesn't make its own wares from scratch (i.e., no two items are the same). But the blades on display are all in top condition—this includes the steel blade that Brand tests.
When Brand asks if they are magical or made of a new metal, the man replies, saying, "Not magical, sir... Or at least, not a magic known to man. The fellow I bought them off told me these weapons were made by the durro themselves and were specially forged from the highest quality iron in secret foundries hid deep in the heart of the mountains."
"Ain't it a lovely piece, sir," says the man. "And it could be yours for a mere two Engles."
When Brand says that it is too expensive, the man makes a counter offer: "How does fifteen Cons sound? And I'll get the girl to put a nice edge on it for you."
The man looks at Brand and takes the dagger back. He then hands the tray of steel weapons off to the girl and picks up the iron knife Brand indicated.
"A good choice, sir," he says, holding the weapon by the blade so he show Brand the handle clearly. "I bought this blade off a sailor who said he bought it in Angolor." He then indicates the grip and adds, "This is supposed to be ice lizard skin. Now, I'm not saying that it is or that it isn't, but it's not like anything I've seen from around these parts."
He then hands the dagger by the blade to Brand to feel the heft and balance. "I could let myself be parted with this for 4 Cons."

The man puts the blade down and reaches down beneath the table and pulls out a dagger in a leather sheath. He draws the blade to show that it is made of iron. It is clearly a second-hand weapon, but it has been well maintained and and it looks like the grip has been recently replaced.
"This and the sheathe would be 2 Cons without a story," he says, and then adds, "But the Angolorian blade would also be a sale at 3 Cons? It is a nice blade and the grip is always cool to the touch."
