The door opens into a large room. Eight torches illuminate this room. The light washes over a floor mosaic; showing two creatures locked in combat: a small bear with sharp claws and a rabbit with a spiral horn on its forehead. In the middle of the room, a robed figure stands next to a waist-high pedestal, atop which rests a stone cube. The figure is bald and has one hand on the cube. It takes a moment to realize that the figure is a statue. The inscription on the floor next to the mosaic tells the story of I'jin ruining Obo'laka's attempt to placate Ubtao. Mal, you recognize Voj, one of the Red Wizards of Thay.

"Everyone be careful, something in this room is highly dangerous." Mal warns the group, and then points to the bald statue, "That used to be Voj, one of the red wizards and obviously, something turned him to stone."
Then Mal will attempt to look around the room for any traps.
Hmm, eight torches. I wonder... Badger senses the presence of his two skeletons where he left them at the entrance to the shrine. Closing his eyes and placing an index finger on each temple, he mentally communicates a command to one of them: Remove one torch from the sconce in the hallway.
(Looks like I don't need to see the skeletons to command them, as long as they are within 60 feet. I'm wondering whether these torches in here are linked with the ones we placed outside. Maybe this Red Wizard came in here without lighting torches outside first...)

Given notice of nothing to note, Silas moves up the statue and look at where the status is looking before speaking mostly to himself, "I would assume the danger would be either the direction they were staring at whatever they were attacked by or behind as they may be running from it," He turns and looks the two direction with great care.

Grenk looks at Badger and then back at the lit torches. "You think my normal torches lit these one? Maybe... If its not you think that these ones need to be moved to the other room?"
The skeleton back at the entrance pick up a torch out of a bracket as commanded. (OOC: totally fine, that works, though to be honest I need to get better at asking what these skeletons get up to....from now on, they're just going to follow you in everything you do, including go through portals, unless you tell me otherwise. Or...if you'd prefer to tell me some other "standard operating procedure" type rules about what they do, we can do that...up to you.).
Nothing seems to happen in the room you're all standing in. You additionally command him to put the torch out by....hmmm...sticking it up into its own skull to douse the flame....it does so. Smoke pours out of its' skull as the torch goes out. Nothing happens in the room you're in.
Looking at these torches, they seem to really be burning. They give off the light, and heat of a torch. But there is also something magical about them since they've been presumably burning in this room for .... years .... unless the kobolds come in here 24 times a day to replace torches...which seems unlikely.
Silas, the statue has its stone hand touching the cube and is intently staring at the cube it's touching. Though, you figure you could probably slide the cube out from between its thumb and index finger, since there seems to be a bit of gap between the edge of the cube and the index finger.
Grenk face palms at Mal's comment. "That's what I just said... don't be takin my credit if that works," he says while shaking a finger at her... he then cracks a smile and laughs a little.
"You did?" Mal says, feigning surprise. "Well then go get the torches and dive back through already." As she stands there waiting for him to move with hands on her hips, laughing.
The skeletons clear out the torch brackets in preparation for Grenk's arrival.
Grenk grabs a torch and goes to the pool. He submerges himself, vanishing once he's full under the water, and....emerges on the other side with a doused smoking torch. He attempts to relight it but is unable to. He tries and tries but it fails to light. Eventually he returns back to the other room with the party. As soon as he re-enters the room with the cube, the torch flames up and is lit again, the dampness sizzling and popping until the torch is dry.
He tries to submerge everything but the flaming torch, but it seems the pool won't transfer him until he brings the full head of the torch into the water along with every other part of himself.

"This ain't workin. The torches go out when I try to leave through the pool but then relight when back in this room. Either they can't leave this room or they can't that way. Maybe the wall pictures say somethin?" he says after trying everything. Grenk then goes to the wall pictures and starts to looking at them in hopes of a clue.
Grenk begins inspecting the paintings. In the moon room, the pictures around the room show the people of Omu going about daily tasks. He sees someone taking a cow into a stable, a blacksmith crafting, a priest praying with a crowd, a stone mason carving a stone block for a building, lumber jacks stripping logs, a woman carrying vegetables in a basket, and numerous other scenes. But, nothing there seems to give him any particular clue.
There are other scenes back in the entrance hall as well showing other similar images.

"Damn and double damn," Grenk swear. "I'm not seeing anything with this," he says and kicks some dirt and turns to leave. "Hey Badger, ya find anything over there?"
Badger isn't having any more luck deciphering the puzzle than Grenk. Maybe the trap has already been sprung by the Thayan, and the danger has passed, but the gnome doesn't want to risk turning to stone. Even using his mage hand is too risky.
Badger will try to have one of the skeletons traverse the portals and enter the final room, then take the cube...

The skeleton emerges, dripping wet from the pool and marches up to the cube it reaches down and...as it touches the cube... 9 ... it freezes...it's body rapidly turning grey until it's entirely stone. There are now two statues frozen while touching the cube.
(Reminder, there are 2 secret doors that you have not managed to open. One right by the entrance, and one in the moon pool room.)

Fair enough. We'll go with "follow Badger around and defend him from harm" as the SOP.
