Tallanvor needs to ask someone else to do his persuading :)
Twiglet looks down from his hiding place at the commotion. "What's happened? Are we leaving already?" He gathers his meagre possessions together and is ready in seconds
It will be hard to play the "meagre possessions and empty pockets" thing for much longer if I keep persuading people to give me gold coins...I'll have to role-play his realisation that adventuring is a far better paid job than theiving - PS, I'm stubbornly sticking to the UK spellings

A few hours later, after much shouting and persuading by Gundren and the party, the two wagons are loaded and ready to leave. As the sun begins to rise head, the caravan heads towards the southern gate out of the city. As you round a corner you find your path blocked by a large group. The largest and meanest looking member walks up to the first wagon and says "Well well well, mighty early for a merchant caravan to be leaving. And it looks like you are in a right hurry, would be a shame if you were delayed, isn't that right folks" The rest of the group laugh menacingly. "I am sure you can imagine how this is going to go?" Four of the group join the speaker and surrounding the wagons.
(OOC)
This was intended to be an example combat to get you comfortable with it. If you could all roll initiative and let me know it (d20 + initiative bonus on your character sheet) and I will put together the turn order.
There are 5 bandits. Feel free to give each of them some description if you want.
Twiglet thinks these thugs are at the end of their working day...if they've been up all night doing jobs and harassing drunks then they will be tired and slow and, quite possibly just stumbled on us, as the pickings from merchants this early is very poor. They won't want a fight when their bed is calling them.
"You can probably just toss them a few gold and they'll let us go through, especially if they see weapons" Twiglet whispers to Gundren, who happens to be close to the cart where Twiglet is hiding. "If I show myself it will make too many questions...they'll be asking what I'm doing on a wagon leaving the city when they know I'm bound to Gully Garret". Twiglet risks a look out of the cover that is draped over the provisions.

If this passes, I recognise the leader and tell Gundren his name and a few useful details about him, which might help him bluff his way past
If combat does start, I will stay hidden as long as I can. If I see one of the party in trouble (loosing) and I can get to them, I will attempt a back-stab (or, more correctly attempt to shank the attacker in the tendons of the knee)
"Gundrem," Whispers Twiglet. "That's Yorrick the Flashman...he looks big but he's really slow and a show-off...that's why he's called Flashman. He is just hoping you'll be too scared of him to square up to him"...then he giggles..."those scars on his face are from one of the night girls at the Pleasure Parlour on Good Street. He wouldn't pay his bill and even she sent him running". Twiglet gave it some more thought..."If someone knocks him down, the others will run. He's not worth their blood."
Well that moved quickly from discussing the weather to combat! As a druid, that seems the wrong way around...
Initiative: 17
Looks like I might be towards the front of the order. Would I be right in assuming that Yorrick & co. are all within a 20' square within 90' of me, such as they might all be afflicted by a suitably placed entangle should restraint be called for?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Initiative: 19
Callanvor casts Thaumaturgy in an attempt to intimidate the gang and amplifies his own voice by three times. "Foolish children", he booms. "There be naught but death that await you here. Go now afore you are struck down where you stand. All that will remain be ashes"
Intimidation 18
If they choose to fight, can I call word of radiance as well to damage all of them? Damage: 4
I'll move between the fighters and the rest of the group drawing mace and shield to protect them and shout "FOR HONOR" (or HONOUR I guess) voice amplified 3 times. I'll attack anyone who tries to get between me and the group:
[Mace: Attack: +3 to hit. Hit: 1d6+1[bludgeoning] damage.] From Avrae, I'm still working this out chance to hit: 16 Damage: 5
I added the initiative dice roll above the others and it seemed to change all of their values. My initial intimidation was 6 (not great) and damage from the well of radiance was 5. I can't remember the rest...
Feeling protective of her newfound alliances, Siloqui slips away from the caravan in a furtive manner. Just enough to be unseen, for the time being. Stealth 8
"The booming voice of Tallanvore should be enough to shake these brutes off the path," she thought to herself. "However..."
*Siloqui inaudibly hums and chants an impassioned elvish poem from ages old.* (Siloqui cast bardic inpsiration on Tallanvore.)
Humblodt gestures with his gnarly staff whilst uttering equally gnarly, incomprehensible and possibly profane words: "Eee titchmarsh bey dimmocks!" Grasping weeds and vines sprout from the ground, wrapping the thugs' limbs in their horticultural knots.
Casting entangle on the group. Those that fail their saving throw (Strength, DC 13) are restrained - so they can't move, advantage to us, disadvantage to them on their attacks and on any dexterity saving throws they make. The ground surrounding them is also difficult terrain. This spell is just wonderful!
Suddenly XiaoLong draws her sword and swings it at Yorric before he can react. She slashes him across the chest and he falls. Then she lunges at one of the nearby bandits cracking their knee with a roundhouse kick.
Humblodt follows up by casting entangle, (DC strength 13), causing vines to sprout from the ground that reach for the bandits. The bandit with the damaged knee manages to avoid being captured, but the other three are trapped by the vines.
Tallanvor's shouts and Yorric's defeat seems to have scared the rest of the bandits as Twiglet predicted. Siloqui's attempt to hide doesn't work, but the bandits are too distracted to notice her.
Clearly Twiglet has lucked upon a true band of heroes. Yorrick went down like a felled tree and, if he lives, will have another scar from a woman...even though this woman appears to be some form of deadly assassin, the taunts will still follow Flashman.
Given it looked like the warriors and the strange, muttering dwarf, had full control of the situation and the thugs had probably been out all night on the take, Twiglet thought it a good time to slip out and see what Flashman had that is worth keeping.
I don't know what to roll to get over to Yorrick and search him...Im too excited to wait till things have died down
XiaoLong is impressed by these branches, roots and plants coming off the ground immobilising three opponents simultaneously. It would make it easy to finish them off but that won't be a fair fight. She pauses for a moment, observing what the others are doing. It could be a good idea to tie them up and send them to jail. Addressing all in the party:
"What shall we do with them ? Hand them over to the local authorities ?"

Having fallen asleep in the wagon, Roars in Silence wakes up to the sound of fighting happening. She flops out of the wagon and pulls out a pair of scimitars, wobbling a little bit.

As the world slowly swims into focus she realizes the party is facing down what's left of a group of bandits, and the druid has already gotten a hold of them with some sort of spell.
Roars in Silence has a thing about bandits. A horrible smile spreads across her face as the red mist descends.
She [quietly] rages, and lunges for the nearest bandit.
Attack: 13 Damage: 9
However, generally speaking you probably shouldn't swing swords around when you've only just woken up. She probably should have had some coffee first or something.

To Ilduarana:
"What's going on ? Are we ready to leave ?"
Twiglet: as long as you don't use double space after a full stop, we'll be friends ;-)
