Everyone agrees that the party need an idea of what lies between them and Glass Staff and Twiglet volunteers to scout ahead. Tallanvor suggests that it could be hard to move unseen through these narrow spaces and proffers the potion of invisibility they found. Twiglet is fascinated and quickly unstops the small vial and drinks the contents.
The potion tastes vaguely of summer berries and is not nearly as bitter as he expected. He is excited to see the effect and waves his hands in front of Tallanvor's face whispering "can you see me?" The jovial priest assures Twiglet that it takes a few minutes for the potion to start working. As he is talking, the halfling notices his fingertips starting to fade from view. Over the next minute, it spreads over his whole body. He is interested to see that he doesn't become completely invisible to himself. He can still see his hands, his clothes and equipment, which is very useful, or he would make no end of noise, tripping over his scabbard of fumbling blindly for his toolset. He waves his arms around again and is reassured by the others that he is, indeed, completely gone from sight. Excitedly, he signs to Ro, before realising his mistake and whispers "I will knock three times on the sarcophagus when I return and will not be gone for more than half a glass (half and hour)"
Unused to being invisible, Twiglet still instinctively crouches and sticks to the shadows around the wall. The tiny, invisible thief heads silently North, following the route the panicked Redbrand took, avoiding his sprinkled rubbish and trip-wire and into the rest of the complex. He has a vague idea of the layout from the hasty description given by the thug in the cell...but, between his wide-eyed fear of Ro's array of knives and horror of his bleeding gang members, Twiglet couldn't rely on the accuracy of his geography.
The last thing he hears as he leaves the Sarcophagus room is Tallanvor asking "So, has he gone?" to the others. Twiglet grins to himself
Passing through the first secret door, Twiglet finds himself in the north end of a large natural cavern, but it has been finished with dressed stone block walls and a flagstone floor. Several barrels are stored against the walls here, along with a number of empty crates, straw for packing, hammers, pry bars, and nails. The cavern continues for some distance to the south. There are several passages that open up off the larger cavern, and what looks like a deep pit or crevasse in the floor.
Moving on he finds the second secret door as he was told. On the other side, a staircase leads down into the earth ending in another door. According to Jasper this is a secret door into Glass-staff's room. Listening at the door, Twiglet doesn't hear anyone speaking or moving. Just a quiet regular scratching sound Evey now and then.
"We don't know. He was supposed to be going to relieve the guards in here a few weeks ago, but was late. I saw him leave the common room, but he never arrived here."
Twiglet moves on. He considers marking the door frame, but only he knows cant (except that conundrum Halia) and the scratching could alert the rooms occupant. He moves back up the stairs and heads south, further into the natural cavern
Horace gets as far as "I don't know" before Ro runs out of self control. She gets to her feet and, without breaking eye contact, she removes the red cloak she had draped over him. Then she takes a few steps back and watches the skeletons do their thing.
A cold breeze fills this large natural cavern, carrying with it the faint scent of decaying flesh. A crevasse divides the cavern and is flanked by two rough stone columns that support the twenty-foot-high ceiling. Two arched wooden bridges span the chasm.
The skeletons' head move as one toward the disrobed Redbrand. They close in on him, swords swinging until his screams fall silent.
Twiglet moves carefully to the side of the crevasse, making sure he is downwind, and looks down into it, trying to gauge it's depth. He also quietly examines the walls to see if they are advantageously craggy, or disadvantageously slippery
The walls of the chasm are chaggy enough that it should be easy to climb them. It looks to be 20 feet deep. However the most terrifying things the halfling sees are the piles of bones, picked clean, littering the chasm floor. A grey robed body lies down there with a bloated and malformed creature like nothing Twiglet has ever seen crouching over it, feeding.
Twiglet promised to scout the caves and that's what he plans to do. He climbs over the chasm on the wall downwind of the monster and silently heads for the southern of the two western exits to see what he can see
The creature doesn't spot Twiglet (see rolls in discord) as he climbs down, moves across the floor carefully and climbs the other side. He fines another staircase leading down. Following it finds a door on his left, through which the rough goblin speech and laughter of two bugbears can be heard. On his right another corridor ending in a door through which he hears laughter and howling of three people having fun.
After finding the common room area and marking the positions of the Bugbears and Rebrands, Twiglet carefully makes his way back to the rest of the party. He is inwardly very pleased with himself as he really feels he has been useful. No accidental kicked stone here, No!
He traverses the crevass while the ugly creature has its head entirely inside the ribcage of the unfortunate slave, back past Glass-Staffs door and back to the Sarcophagus room.
Once there he raps three times on the lid of one of the tombs, feels slightly silly and says "er, it's me, Twiglet"
He describes everything he's seen including a description of the "demon" as best be can. He cuts himself short when he sees To grinding her teeth at the mention of the remains of the body in the crevasse. At the end, he finishes with the suggestion of storming Glass-Staffs private chambers while he is alone, using Twiglet's invisibility to their advantage if possible. Twiglet can't help himself from pacing around and sitting on the tombs as he describes his plan, thrilled that the others are listening with real respect. Unfortunately, this means they keep asking him questions while looking in completely the wrong direction. "Stay still curse you, little whisp." Humboldt grumbles, "Yer making us dizzy with yer floating here and there". "Twiglet the ghost" thinks the thief. "I like that".
After the anger about the slaves, Ro seems ready to go immediately. The party prepare and follow Twiglets whispered guidance down the stairs to Glass-Staff's back door...
As the party approaches the door, Tallanvor stays well back to avoid being seen. When enough time has passed for Twiglet to get into place, he gives a countdown of three nods in the direction of the door where Twiglet should be before casting thaumaturgy where he envisions the other end of the room to be.
The sound of a cat getting it's tail stepped on cries out loudly and Twiglet opens the secret door as silently as he is able.
