Cyrus relaxes in his bed and thumbs through the Captain's Log and these were the most legible notes:
…beam of light struck a point on the map 1000 miles ESE of the Misty Archipelago. The Isle of Dread is there, I’m sure of it!
March 6: We hid in the abandoned tomb until the guardian…
…May 3: Our ship is at Port Lily, outfitted with three months of provisions, and all crew is aboard. We set sail tomorrow! May 4: As we left the shipping lanes behind us, we spotted a mysterious gray sail following us. Belloq again? May 24: Land ho! The island is just where I knew it would be! We’ll follow the coastline and survey the coast. May 27: The island is big – 200 miles long perhaps. We’ve reached the southern harbor. There’s a friendly village by a ziggurat. They’re open to trade. We’ve traded our cargo for 5 giant emeralds. Each is engraved with a Supernal rune I’ve never seen before. The village is cut off from the island by a giant wall, 50 feet high. What’s it keeping out? May 28: There are indeed Supernal runes on the ziggurat. First rune on the south side is “Stone”, I don’t recognize the other two. The natives tell me that there are many more on the ruins in the interior. Apparently the “City of the Gods” is at the center of the island and contains many treasures. However the villagers never travel very far beyond their great wall. They send their "help"…
…made camp at the ruined temple. June 12: Awoke to find Belloq and his thugs smirking at us, swords … five emeralds. The stones were worth 1000 GP each, but the loss … Museum is incalculable. They headed west. I don’t know if they … sheer cliffside, but we’ll follow…
…June 15: Bordag says that we’ve stumbled over a gold vein. If … mining equipment we’d be able to make a fortune. No sign of…
…The natives say that a stranger swam to the taboo island. Belloq…
…June 25: Hold filled with treasure, and my new lightning whip on my belt. Set sail for home. Discovered Belloq’s ship in a cove shrouded in green mist. Unfortunately, he and his gang were not aboard. We burned the ship to the waterline. He may still have the emeralds but I don’t know how he’ll get them home! June 26: Have been a day since we left site of the island, and still the green mist grows thicker and thicker....
Gaerich will approach Muldoon. Have you ever seen anything like that before? Or heard of something like it? Perhaps we should have scuttled that ship...
Cyrus thumbs through the captain's log at an increasingly frantic pace, his brow furrowing further and further as more gaps begin to appear. He's not focused on that, instead dog-earing each page with legible script and then pouring over each again and again. His eyes stop in anguish at the illegible page(s) following June 15. 10 days! Blackened seas if only... He flips back to late May, rereading the notes about locals, and searches the journal for any pictures of the runes on the emeralds. No mention of the pearl specifically...Green misted cove...And this Belloq...
He finally emerges, nearly an hour later, to whatever is going on on deck at that time.

((Actually that's a great question! The gaps, are they more from illegibility or lack of entries? Also, what effect would eyes of the rune keeper have? "You can read all writing"))
((so the Captain's Log has been warped from water and the words you were able to read were because they were legible. I looked into Eyes of the Rune Keeper and it's more about reading written words that can be read, but it can't make what's unreadable readable, just foreign tongues, hieroglyphics, and some rune writing, and if there is magically infused in the text in might make Eyes of the Rune Keeper useless).
Standing by the ship's railing, Muldoon looks out at the vast sea. He hears Gaerich approaching him and turns to answer his question, "I've never been this far off the coast, let alone seen or heard anything about any green mists." Muldoon shivers slightly and tightens his cloak around his large frame to protect himself from the sprays of seawater as waves crashing against the boat's hull. "I hope our Captain Russell knows what he's doing."
The Persistent continues sailing the open sea. For weeks now there has been no sign of land. Tension has been rising amongst the crew and the passengers. Huron and Captain Russell have been bickering about the winds and directions with Clavorus stepping in and trying to help. Muldoon has been spending most of his time keeping Hammand happy and reassuring Hammand's guests that they were on the right course and all is good. It was only a few days ago that Archibald started to half everyone rations as food supplies start to dwindle. MacDougal and Woodbow have been working overtime patching up the ship, fixing ripped sails, and keeping the masts standing, as the sea pummels the ship.
The tension didn't break until a seagull landed next to Gimble while she was relaxing on the upper deck. Aegis pointed at the bird and called out to Captain Russell, "we got a seagull, Captain!" Captain Russell turned to see the bird and smiled and then looked over at Woodbow and MacDougal and commanded, "quickly you two, up the crow's nest. Land can't be far."
Hearing the excitement, Hammand and his guests venture to the upper deck. "What's all this hub-bub?" Hammand asks.
Gaerich approaches the railing Land? Gods be praised, it’ll be good to get my feet on solid ground again. And solid food in my stomach, I’ve grown weary of hardtac and salt cod.
Cyrus speaks with Gaerich and Muldoon after reemerging from his bunk with the captain’s log. “Neither had they,” he says grimly. “These were men mere months ago. Apparently they bought rune inscribed emeralds from some locals, but had trouble with ahh I guess he was another treasure hunter. Guess he got his revenge at cost; he found their ship in a green-misted cove and burned it before sailing off. Whatever happened to these sailors, it happened out on the waters.”
Later
”Oh hey Hammand, long time naught but sea. Land ho though.”

Gimble breathes a sigh of relief. "I was starting to think we would never see land again. What I wouldn't give for a solid roof above my head and stable ground beneath my feet."
As the number of seagulls increases so does the excitement between the crew and the passengers as hope for land increases. It's not until an hour later that Woodbow, pointing in the distance, screams "LAND HO!" and you all see a massive island peaking over the horizon, filling your vision as The Persistent sails towards it.
A few hours later Captain Russel has managed to pilot The Persistent close to the waters. What you all see as you approach the island large mountain peeks like ragged teeth jutting up from the island. The mountains look like the stretch for a few miles and Captain Russel doesn't feel there is any decent and safe landing the ship.
"Looks like we'll need to sail till we find more suitable land," Captain Russell says to Muldoon who is now standing next to the Captain at the pilot wheel.
"Hammand wants to get ashore as soon as possible. This trip has taken longer than planned, and we are starting to run low on supplies," Muldoon says.
"Maybe we can send some volunteers out on the skiff for some reconnaissance and scrounging," Russell says. Muldoon rubs his chin as he thinks and then nods.
"Sometimes, Captain, you surprise me with your ideas," Muldoon says and then heads down from the pilot wheel to the upper deck and gathers. "All right. Captain Russell feels we need to continue to sail to find better land to beach, but in the meantime, I am looking for some volunteers to take the skiff and head over and see if they can scrounge some food and do a little a recon. So, who's interested?"
Clavorus steps forward, "I didn't come on this trip to stay on a boat all day. I'll head in!"
((Sorry I’ve been out of touch, guys, the weekend got away from me.))Gaerich nods as a smile plays across his face. I suppose I’ll go too, someone has to look after you lot!
Cyrus exaggeratedly stretches his arms above his head, his tunic lifting to reveal the bottom of a hairless torso. "I'd love to stretch my legs as well. No point in sailing without touching lands"

Aegis and Ronan help lower the skiff on the surface of the sea and Woodbow unslings a rope ladder off the side for people to climb down onto the skiff. Woodbow goes down the rope first and takes the oars. Calvorus goes next, then Gimble and Maggie, followed by Cyrus and finally Gaerich. The skiff is comfortable with six people aboard, but another one or two passengers would make it a tight fit.
Gaerich and Cyrus help push the skiff away from The Persistent and Woodbow starts rowing hard against the choppy waters. After ten minutes of rowing towards the island you all find yourselves looking up at these tall stone cliffs get battered by the green seawater. Woodbow continues to row until Gimble manages to get a small clearing to land the skiff and Woodbow turns the skiff in the direction.
Clavorus opens the map and Cryus over his shoulder they both look at it. From where you all are Cyrus and Clavorus point toward the mountain ranges in the northwest of the island and predict this is where you all are.
Gaeirch and Maggie jump out of the boat when the water is less than waist high and help pulls up the skiff to the small beachhead. The beach you all find yourselves is small and ends at a small patch of jungle that then leads into the mountainous region of the island.
I imagine right now, in what you describe as less than waist high, Maggie would probably unwillingly leave her lute on the ship, and take the flute with her, fastened to her belt.
Gimble excitedly explores the beach and where the water washes in and out. She collects a few different small stones and some shells.
Looking toward the jungle, Gimble mentions, "I would feel better if I conferred with Nebelun before going much further. Would you guys mind if I take some time to reach out to him? I just hope that he encourages us to continue our exploration." ((I would like Gimble to cast Augury as a ritual if it is okay with the group. If not, I will cast it as an action. Specifically, Gimble is asking about the success of our exploring the area)).
"Sure, why not, Gimble," Cyrus replies, opening the map to examine it. ((It is on page 3 btw)) "We're on the opposite end of where the ghost ship landed, which is just as well I suppose. All the same, I'll heed your caution; uncharted lands and all."
