Players' turns
Lia sends her dagger up to the big grick on the old pillar, which then drives itself into the beast. She follow-up spell is sent onto the ceiling (11 force damage and spell missed).
(Kysdiane will be on auto, as per OCC chat discussion. Hope you have a good weekend!)
Kysdiane keeps up his up-close assault on the perched monster (I will repeat last turn's actions, including conditions).
Flail Attack: 16 Damage: 5
Bless: 2
His run of bad combat luck continues as a kink in his flail's chain prevents a successful swing (miss; Seriously, why are the dice so against you this fight?).
Initiative order (players/allies win initiative ties vs enemies):
Gulgus - Leaf
Grick Alpha - Big rattlesnake
Avia and Stata - Potion and big wolf head
Renata - Scales
Gricks -smaller rattlesnakes
Lia - flame
Kysdiane -flail
Map:
Red blotch - forge
Black dots - pillars
Brown squares - mine carts
square at K-15, K-16, L15 and L-16 - chute
Kysdiane is 30 feet off the ground
Gulgus can post his turn.
Edit: Rereading some of the turns from last round, I screwed up where a couple of tokens were. Namely my brain thought Stata was going after the fleeing grick. As a result, the grick did nothing and now Stata gets a retroactive opportunity attack on the one pursuing Renata.
Staying in place, Gulgus throws another tongue of fire at the southern-most grick, which splashes its side at an obtuse angle, making it less effective than it would have been (3 fire damage).
Grick Alpha's turn
The now-struggling grick, now feeling trapped on its chosen perch, drops down and attempts to flee to the eastern exit (now at I-7,J-7, I-8-J-8).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Opportunity Attack: Stata seeing her prey fleeing, tries to bite it before it leaves. Attack: 14 Damage: 13
Turn
Avia's eyes widen as the terrifying Grick Alpha moves near her. She takes out her Mace, and wildly swings at the Grick Alpha. She also commands Stata, to go chase her prey down, and attack the grick at C14.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing that the Grick Alpha tries to flee, Renata moves her spiritual weapon down to strike at it again. With a smaller rattlesnake engaging her, luckily it missed its last bite, Renata turns to wave her hands and a deathly bell ringing surrounds the smaller grick.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Resolving reaction
As the grick slithers in pursuit of Renata, Stata bites at it causing a sever laceration down its back, the toughness of its hide prevented it to be a lethal strike (6 piercing damage, halved by resistances, the 3 fire happened afterwards).
Players' Turns
In a moment of panic, with the large grick so close to her, Avia swipes at it with her mace. She was able make a solid blow against it (3 force damage halved by resistance).
In the corner of the room, Stata crushes the airway of the severely-weakened grick and tears off its head (9 piercing damage and dead).
(Switching Renata's cantrip target to next closest as it was killed before she could set it off).
18
With the pressure now off of her Renata creates a sonorous bong by the large grick. It looks around for a while, but is otherwise, unaffected. But its distraction is enough for the spectral tome to slam into it, more of its tentacles droop uselessly (7 force damage and made the save).
Monster's turn:
Keeping its eye on what's going on behind it, the last of the small gricks makes its way through the eastern exit (it is just beyond the map, if Q-5 was a thing on the map, it is there).
Lia sends her spiritual dagger to strike the closest enemy, then follows it up with a ray of frost as well. (She will move if needed to get line of sight on an enemy, or just aim at any that are visible from her current position.)
Spiritual Dagger Attack: 18 Damage: 9 Ray of Frost Attack: 11 Damage: 2
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Players' turns
Lia moves her spectral dagger to meet the large grick once more. Finding one final weakspot in its tough hide the dagger buries itself in and through the others side, causing it to spit out blood just before it falls and moves no more (9 damage and dead). She then tosses a mote of fire at the last grick she saw flee to the exit, bit it hits the large frame. But the light of the flame allowed her to see a bit into the area behind the grick.
Kysdiance after seeing the last grick move through the exit but still visible flies as close as he can (to L-5) and causes a toll the dead dread bell to ring out.
4
A screech is heard just past the exit as the grick feels its own cells perish (4 necrotic damage).
Renata will move towards Avia but she hesitates to attack. “Should we let it go?” She asks others. The smaller rattlesnake seems to only be running for its life, and she felt like it was them that intruded their home in the first place. They were disturbed beasts trying to guard their space, and she feels no need to pursue now that the danger is gone.
(For the sake of progressing, I am going to continue with the current posts)
Feeling the need to burn the large corpse, Gulgus generates some fire but misjudges the amount of power he puts into it and it explodes with a loud bang. The sound disorients him for a moment as he stumbles his way in Lia's direction (Gulgus has a -4 penalty to first attack roll until end of next turn).
11
Avia sends Stata in pursuit of the fleeing creature as she sends a mass of acid its way. It is aware enough to dodge the bursting blob.
Renata stands back and suggests letting the creature flee as it doesn't appear to be a threat anymore.
Edit: Forgot Gulgus Nat 1 save: 18
Grick's turn
With a hiss, the grick quickly makes its way further into the corridor (now at W-5).
Kysdiane nods an understanding to Renata, "These creatures no longer pose a threat to us and we can only risk our own survival pursuing them." With that, he floats down from the ceiling and takes a closer look around the room. He specifically heads over to the forge to see if there is perhaps anything still inside of it that might give a further clue as to what this facility is for.
