Manfred will join fashionably late, forgoing breakfast but drinking a cup of tea while humming a merry little melody. "Dain, Dain, Dain, Dain. Inspiration struck me last night my dwarven friend. I believe I have composed a truly epic song the encompasses our adventures. I've entitled it Dwarf with an Axe versus the Hordes of Evil.
He grins at the party. "Shall I offer you a preview?" He plays a few notes on his flute then begins singing.
"Gather near this humble troubadour
My old and new friends
And listen how the dwarf Dain
With an axe and friends so SURE
Brought nasty sex demons to their EEEENNNNDS......"
Manfred grins wickedly. "I'm going to make you famous. People will no longer think of you as 'just a wizard,' Dain. Instead, they will know you as a fearsome fighter too. You'll just have to wait until I find an appropriate venue to unveil the full song."
With that you all make your way back out to the winding road and rolling hills. Its a rather boring trip, with nothing but trees and occasional farm lands to be seen for miles on end. You all kelp an eye out along the travel but font really see anything that stands out throughtout the few hours it takes to arrive at your destination.
Approaching evening you come upon the beginnings of what you have heard called Black stick swamp. It's a dank and dark wood as far as you can tell. The smell of stagnant water hits you first though, and its quite a bit more humid than it was before. You see where the wood gets its name as many of the trees roots grow outward exposed from the earth and have a sickly black tint to them from submersion in the swamp water. There's been alot of traffic through this area recently as far as you can tell just with casual observation, but other than that it's quiet and nothing appears to be around at the moment.
(If anyone wants to do an investiagation or survival checck or if theres something else you were wanting to try, go ahead.)
Albanus will walk up to the water and she will take a little look at the water. Is there anything in it? Wildlife? Can I tell if it’s caustic or not? Want to see if I see a path through the muck. After all, she thinks to herself, these robes don’t clean themselves.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ashtear will get close tot the water and examine it best she can. As that tinge is illsuited to healthy. Pulling out a litney of tools and objects, she takes samples of the goop, and the water. Afterwhich, she tries to look around and figure out the best method for traversing the area. Worried about the possbility that we'll be observed here, but being too busy to pay much heed to the suroundings currently.
(can i use Alchemist tools, or Herbalism kit to examine the water/tree tint. Mostly curious, sincee we might be exposed to it for a bit of this trip. Afterwhich. Survival for figuring out the best method to get through.

Manfred is profoundly uncomfortable in the heat and sweating heavily, he will examine the trees closely to make sure there are no creepy crawlies there and to ensure the trees themselves aren't showing any signs of corruption other than their immersion in foetid swamp water.

If everything looks fine, Manfred will recline under the tree, twirling his flute between his fingers to cool himself off.

LOL
You do see some plant life in the stagnant water, but nit much in the way of wildlife. It doesnt appear to be acidic, but the folliage is rather dense so you can't see much further than maybe 20 ft or so into the wood line.

This is the Swamp of Nat 1s and low rolls. Even with a +11 i didn't get very high
You take a minute to gather a few samples and begin some mild quick tests to just see what possibly your working with. After a few minutes youre rather confident that while it appears to have some part of its natural compounds tainted, its difficult to say by what. You get the feeling though, that it isnt any sort of natural occurance, and whatever it is that is causing the Black stain on the water, is something based in arcane magic.
Just as you take a step forward though, you feel a heavy hand on your shoulder and turn to see Survivor as he gently pulls you just a half a step back, just in time to avoid the closing maw of a Mantrap plant as it snaps shut violently just in front of you. (With its mouth closed its not a threat. Think venus flytrap, once it closes its mouth it stays closed for awhile.)
Seeing the group each move to their own directions, Aura instead stays still and takes a look over the place from where she is, trying to note anything in sight or any sound she hears.
Looking about, listening intently to any sounds of disturbance, you really start to get in touch with the natural world around you. Your eyes moving through the dense foliage for any signs of movement, sharp and acutely aware of your surroundings. Far off, much too far away to be an immediate threat, you can almost sense a strange presence in the swamp, moving quickly and chaoticly through it. The occasional stop of a bird's song, or the slow drowning noise of crickets far off stopping for just a spit second, is all you need to know something unfamiliar to these woods is here.
Dain has his familiar do a scout from overhead, looking for anything of interest or out of the norm.
Perception: 12
Your Tressym appears beside you, taking flight at your command, it sails quickly up beyond the tree tops. Seeing through its eyes you can see mostly nothing other than some natural flora and fauna. Doing a quick circle while the others busy themselves, the Tressym takes one more pass before catching something human like between the dense foliage, though almost too fast to even really know that it is in fact human. Looking about once more though you fail to see anything else remotely out of the ordinary though.
Like Aura, just a few minutes and you feel pretty confident in your ability to read the land. Enough so that you manage to save Ashtear from a unseen Mantrap laying still in the shallow water. Looking back to the road, you can manage to get a jist of the foot traffic. Mostly imperial foot patrols, an occasional horse and cart, but more interesting is what you dont see. That is to say, you can tell someone or somethibg went to rather great lengths to cover their own tracks. With a skilled eye you see where perhaps theres too much traffic in one area for there to be nothing right next to it, as if nit even a mouse had stepped there in a fortnight is highly unlikely. Whatever it is, it's very capable of moving almost without a trace through the swamp, but as you already know, that could be a clue.

If everything looks fine, Manfred will recline under the tree, twirling his flute between his fingers to cool himself off.
Looking to a bit drier spot, you inspect the area for a moment, assuring yourself that theres nothing dangerous around at the moment, and relax under the tree for a few minutes, the rather intense humidity and heat being quite the jolt from your more usual traversed snowy peaks of the North. After just a few minutes you feel a single drop of water come down, spashing right between your eyes, the strange part being that there isnt a cloud in the sky. You look about but dont see anything around you, making the occurance all the nore strange to you.
Survivor will glance at the others, "I think something has been this way recently, something that didn't want us to know they were here. Probably the Amazons we're looking for. Should we try to follow where they're headed, or where they've been?"
Albanus will take a look up into the trees, if there are any, or if they’d offer any cover for anything. In any case he cautiously moves back to the group to reconvene. “Cheery place, this,” she’ll deadpan to anyone within earshot. To Survivor she’ll add, “Do you see a way through? And, if you don’t mind me being blunt, what do you know about these Amazons?”
"Ookayy.... That was not a plant I knew existed.. Thannks. Are there more of those? ....Also this water, I'm pretty sure someone with magic did it. I know they mentioned the amazons having magic abilities... But for what reason would they taint or maybe even poison the area? I can't imagine their big plan is to leave a swath of poisoned land behind them."
Sabastian spotted someone moving in the trees just now." Dain says, his own eyes scanning the area as he grips his new staff in his hand. "We are not alone here, so I wonder how long until they let themselves be known, or if they will just watch us for a while..."
Manfred starts as the water strikes his face and sputters looking around. "We are definitely not alone, chappies. I think something or someone might have just gobbed in my face. A bit disgusting, but I've had worse." He draws his crossbow. "Been dying to make this one sing. I've named her Natascha."
(I was waiting for opinions on if we say hello, or ignore it. Given the weapon draw that might be inclined for saying hello and calling them out. Ashtear gave her opinion, in that we can say hello, or ignore it, as they haven't done anything to us that she is aware of. and this isn't an unusual travel path persay.
If no one is actively wantign to say hello, we know the goop isn't very friendly-maybe harmful mayebe not, not natural though. But we can continue on and Ashtear would bee fine with that))

"I can simply not wait." Dain says with a groan. "Can we leave already? I think we have left our good bard here with too much time on his hands."
Survivor will chuckle quietly, "I agree, perhaps he can practice entertaining the Amazons when we find them. That would be amusing."
