We get a drink, take a look around, be nice and polite and don't cause any trouble. Then we find our friend and make ourselves useful. Con smiles. It's a good plan.
He orders an ale from Alan and sits quietly, listening in as Mendax. He takes the flaming fist badge from his cloak but makes no attempt to hide it; instead he holds it in his hands, turning it over and over as he sits at the bar, thinking and listening.
Mendax the man (played by a young Joseph Fiennes) at the bar smiles and raises his glass when it is set before him "Thank you, friend, Oloric Witmirth, at your service. Oh, this?" He says indicating his notebook "These are just notes and obsevations on the human condition. I'm a playwrite, you see. My plays have been produced from here to Amn but I find the greatest inspirations come from simple taverns like this one, where you can see humanity's true face!"
Con with that 15 you know that Duke Thalamra Vanthampur is the matriarch of the Vanthampur family. She's a tough old broad who made her fortune from nothing, people say, by spebdubg years wallowing in obscurity, repairing and renovating the city’s ancient sewer system. One promotion after another followed until she was named Master of Drains and Underways. You also know that her three sons, Thurstwell, Amrik, and Mortlock all come from different fathers all of whom have died, leaving a widow.
Kestell, Alan looks at you for a moment before saying "One shandy, coming up" He returns with your drink and sets it down in front of you. "Enjoy, lad."
There's a loud contemptuous grunt from Con, but he doesn't look at Kes. Instead he directs his attention at the bartender, and he keeps his voice low. We're here to meet with Tarina. She around? He's still fiddling idly with the badge in his hand.
Kestell, Alan looks at you for a moment before saying "One shandy, coming up" He returns with your drink and sets it down in front of you. "Enjoy, lad."
"Thank you good sir! Although, where I grew up we called them 'Shanty'. Either way, I suppose!" Kestrell pays the man and leaves him a 2 copper tip.
"Ah, a storyteller. Whenever I find myself with some downtime I enjoy escaping off and watching a good show," he says to Oloric."So, what play are you working on now?"
Con, Alan eyes you and the Flaming Fist badge in your hands. "I'd ask why, but Gods know it's none of my business. And at least this way no one gets their head staved in unnecessarily. She's upstairs playing dice. Tell you what, lads, this rounds on the house, just try not to break anything, ay?" he hands everyone back the money for their drinks, keeping the tips for himself however.
Kes, Alan smiles and nods. "Yeah, shanty, I've heard people call them that, some dwarves call them radlers too."
Mendax, Oloric smiles as he launches into his pitch. "This ones called "Baldur's Gate: Shadow of Amn" it's a history about when Saverok tried to bring about a war with Amn to take over his father's godhead. I'm thinking of making Saverok kind of a tragic figure, you know? Give it the old Witmirth twist!"
Much obliged,Con says. And there'll be no trouble from us. He puts the badge back on his cloak, and drains the last of his ale.
When Mendax and Kes are done with their conversation and alleged drink, he'll suggest to Mendax and Vin that they head up, and that one of them might take the lead in talking to Tarina.
"Sounds like you're cooking up something good, Oloric. Would love to hear more later. Do you tend to haunt this tavern often?" Mendax asks and then after Oloric's answer he cheers the playwright and then turns to Con and gives him an "I'm ready," nod.
"I think best if either you or I go, Con," Mendax says and then turns to Kes, "no offense, Kes, just that this task takes a little more linguistical finesse than you're used too." Mendax then turns back to Con and says, "you like using the badge and she's expecting a contact from the Fist and you're playing the part well enough already, so..."
Mendax, Oloric smiles at your praise. “Yes, I am somewhat of a regular here! Please feel free to look for me whenever you’ve a mind to buy a starving artist a drink!”
and see a large gregarious woman (Played by Melissa McCarthy) playing dice at the table closest to you. She stands up as she scoops the money in the center towards her. “You sorry bastards almost take the fun out of taking your money! Hahaha! Almost!” She looks over as the four of you come up the stairs, the north on her face disappearing for a moment to be replaced by slightly panicked consideration. After a moment the smile returns and she sits back down, but shooting looks in your direction every so often.

Mendax looks about the room to see if there are any other exits besides the one they came up from and also to notice if there are any other suspicious-looking people.
Mendax, you’re pretty sure you could hire a murderer from among the people up here, at the very least a kidnapper or two, so more than the average level of suspicious for a Baldur’s Gate tavern. And you know that the outer walls have plenty of windows, some that lead out onto the roof.
Tarina continues to send looks your way which you perceive to be not panicked anymore, but cautious nonetheless.
Con also chuckles at the banter, and then walks over to Tarina. He stops, and glances at the others sitting at her table, hoping she'll take his meaning. Tarina, I presume. We've official business to discuss with you, but not with these...he glances again at the others. Ma'am, he adds, remembering the instruction to be nice.

Has he heard of Thalamra Vanthampur? History 1

Warmed up and itch scratched, Kestrell moves over to the bar with the rest of the group and orders an ale and a lemonade, if they have any.
Kestell, Alan looks at you for a moment before saying "One shandy, coming up" He returns with your drink and sets it down in front of you. "Enjoy, lad."

OOC: How much was the Shandy?
"Ah, a storyteller. Whenever I find myself with some downtime I enjoy escaping off and watching a good show," he says to Oloric. "So, what play are you working on now?"

Kestrell smiles at the free drink, "Thank you good sir!".
Kestrell takes his cup, turns to the rest of the group and asks: "Should we head on up?"

You head up to the second floor
and see a large gregarious woman (Played by Melissa McCarthy) playing dice at the table closest to you.
"Non taken, Mendax, I showed your Mom some linquistical finesse last night, so you are right, I'm all tapped out!"
Kestrell follows the group upstairs, taking the rear.
Mendax looks about the room to see if there are any other exits besides the one they came up from and also to notice if there are any other suspicious-looking people.
Perception: 20
((Oh man, approaching Vicious Mockery levels there!))

Kestrell follows the group upstairs, taking the rear.
Mendax just shakes his head and says “I know that’s not true because my mother only ****s men, not boys like you Kes.”
Kestrell chuckles good naturedly as they walk up the stairs.
Con also chuckles at the banter, and then walks over to Tarina. He stops, and glances at the others sitting at her table, hoping she'll take his meaning. Tarina, I presume.
