Having not encountered this type of creature before, it's hard to read its intentions, but the voice in your head seems earnest. It's obvious the flumph is affected by the faezress in the caverns, but it seems to honestly want to stop the cultists, but does not have the means to do so itself.

"Interesting, this is the first time I'm encountering someone ... like you. Can I ask, how did you end up here ? It looks like a strange place to be for a good person like you."

You move further up the corridor, leaving the locked door behind for now. Ahead the tunnel opens into a larger room:
The chamber splits into two paths surrounding a large pool, filled by water trickling from stalactites along the ceiling. The western path forms a ramp above the pool’s surface, while the eastern path runs level with the water and continues into a tunnel opening. The water turns darker toward the center of the pool, where it transforms from a gentle swirl into a churning vortex.
The flumph indicates that the cultists are up the western path, but to go quietly, lest you disturb the water. "I cannot go with you, the magic is too strong, but I would not be of much use to you anyway. When you reach the top, turn left, and follow the path the obelisk. If you are successful, I should be able to find you again."

"Yes, it is indeed a strange place. I was sent to investigate the strange magical energies in this area. It's been fluctuating more than usual. When I discovered the obelisk was being rebuilt, I tried to leave, but the force is too strong. I've been asking for help, but I am mostly ignored."

Just as the flumph finishes saying this, a dark geyser emits from the pool of water in the middle of the room. On top of the geyser roars an elemental creature that reaches forth from the pool to attack you.

You know this is called a Water Weird, so you can assume it may be resistant to fire, but are not sure of any other weaknesses or strengths.
(OOG Of course the tool tip tells you everything, but Oorr doesn't know.)
Seeing this water creature forming in front of them, Grimnir tries to hide behind rocks, observing its target and trying to find any weakness.
(OOG The stealth check was more of a group check, and the less stealthy members alerted the monster. You're not quite hidden, but you're also no the obvious target for the water weird.)
