Seeing that the snake has got Grigor, I keep beating it up, in an effort to kill it before any lasting damage is done.

The snake dies (reduced to -3 hit points). Its coils on Grigor loosen. A low, long moan is heard in the jungle from the direction of the temple.
Casualties: Five innocent people were killed. Many of the merchants had fled from this area of the crumbling city. Grigor's ribs are sore, but any investigation of them reveals him to be fine.

however, there is another question to be answered: was this an assassination attempt, or was it a show of force?
