Arliden looks at Fjordix, "I agree, saving lives is more important at the moment," and he will begins hustling the children towards the safety of the keep.
With the children being carried, you rush towards the front gate of the keep. As you approach, you notice archers on the wall above the gate with their bows drawn and men on the ground preparing to close the gate. "These six are with us!" Linan shouts, indicating the party.
You get closer to the gate, and the archers loose their arrows. You hear the sound of arrows hitting solid mass. As you make your way through the gate, you can see fallen kobolds and cultists on the ground behind you, and a few others falling back to be out of bowshot.
Once in the keep, the gates are closed behind you. After a few brief inquiries, Linan leads you to the parapet and up to a human male of about sixty years. The right side of his face and head are bandaged, his right arm hangs in a sling, and his light blue tunic is stained with what appears to be his own blood. He starts as he sees you approaching. "Linan, is that you? Thank the Great Mother! We thought we'd lost you."
"You almost did," Linan responds. "If it hadn't been for these brave souls, I fear those creatures would have killed me, John, and the children."
"In that case, I owe you a debt of gratitude. But I see that you are tired and could use some rest. I will properly thank you for saving a dear friend and her family when you return. Escobert, find them a place to rest and bring them back here in roughly an hour." This last bit he addressed to a red haired dwarf standing nearby. Escobert leads you back into the keep and shows you to a couple rooms that you may use to take a short rest.
Fjordixs paces the room he is shown to, "We cannot stay here, we need to get back out there!" he walks towards the door but then turns back and looks at everyone else in the room, "We need to all go, no one ship protect a port", he says realizing the danger of being alone among the hordes. He goes back to pacing, his energy and stamina returning to him as his frustration grows. "Blasted dragons" he growls looking towards where he suspects the dragon is above the keep.
[Rex recharges all of his spell slot and his breath weapon]
Rex cracks his neck as he reclines on a couch, "Man, it feels good to be back in business. You know, they weren't always like this. They used to be some two-bit thugs. None of this dragon stuff, no kobolds, my kind was the closest thing they had to a dragon. I wonder how long they've been planning this little raid." Rex rubs the bridge of his snout, "Also, what was up with that purple person they talked about, eh? Sounds pretty important..."
[Also, follow up question, are we using Milestone or EXP?]
The human with flaming red hair looks around the room at the group as they all take time to mend their wounds. "Well, I'm not sure who you are or what brings you all here, but my name is Arliden and this," he gestures has the lute over his back, "is Elisa". The lute is made of beautiful red wood with what appears to be and somewhat intricately detailed unfinished map carved into its surface. "I also understand your impatient friend," he nods towards the other frustrated looking human in the room (Fjordix though Arliden hasn't gotten many peoples names), "but I don't think charging back out there is the best solution. I'm not able to heal anyone else for a while and we was what 6 of them did, let alone a horde. Maybe we should get some answers first."
He will stick his head out the door to the room to see if anyone is passing by the room. If he sees a soldier or someone that looks like they could direct him to someone with answers he'll try to get their attention.
After you've had time to rest, Escobert comes back to take you up to the parapet. When the man with his arm in a sling sees you, he walks over to you and says, "Forgive me for not properly introducing myself when you first arrived. I was distracted and forgot myself. My name is Tarbaw Nighthill, and I am the Governor of this town. Linan's father and I were friends growing up, and I've known her since she was born. I've arranged for you to have 10 gp each as a small token of my thanks. Sadly, I'm afraid I must at least ask if you will stay and help. If you are half as formidable as Linan says you are, you will be a great asset in helping us survive this raid. I’d give anything to know what we’re up against, and why. As I understand it, you all were coming into town as we were being raided. Do you have any idea what's going on out there?"

Rex clicks his claw at the man, "Cult o' Dragons, my human. They've evidently stepped up their game since I was a member, er, infiltrant... Anyway, I've never seen them employ kobolds and dragons, usually they kinda just worshiped those things. I am the manager of this here group, so I'll be taking ten percent of each payment, if you would be so kind." Rex says slyly with a glimmering smile.

"Nighthill", Monk-E chimes in, "Rex is right about _one_ thing. The Cult of Dragons. But why, I don't believe any of us have the answer yet. I'm happy to stay and help." Monk-E puts the full 10 gp in his pocket. To himself, "This will help some people in need some meals."

(OOC: When Rex says "a member" queue pop-up that says, "Arliden will remember that" LOL)
"Manager, interesting...I suppose I could give you 10% as part of a 'handlers fee'," and he breaks into a wide smile, "but then I might be inclined to start charging for my services. I mean most people pay well to hear me play, and those songs don't even stitch wounds. I suppose I'll give you a discount since you really did need it and we'll call it half the price of a potion? Maybe 10 gold? I jest." And Arliden puts his 10 gold in his pouch. "But in all seriousness I'm more than happy to help, but maybe an equally important question to who is attacking you is why. Why this town, what is is that you have that they want?
[As far as you can tell he seems to be grateful for Linan being safe, concerned about the safety and future of his town, and chagrined that he may ask for your help.]
To Fjordix, Nighthill says, "There are many families I haven't seen, including Sargeant Markguth's sister and her children. Aside from them, I've not seen our priest of Chauntea, Eadyan Falconmoon.
"From a tactical standpoint, the raiders have isolated us here in the keep from the rest of the town with encircling groups of guards, but they have not yet organized an attack. In fact, I don't think the raiders intend to attack the keep; they seem interested only in loot. The real danger, here, is to the town and to those people who didn’t make it here before we closed the gate."
Escobert steps forward and whispers to the governor. "I just received word that there are townsfolk trapped in the temple. The front gate is being watched by many eyes, but there is a way to make it out of the keep and back in again without drawing the raiders’ attention. Will you help us?"
"While I can't speak for the rest of this group, I'm more than willing to help in any way I can. Do you know how many people are trapped there?"
At some point Arliden will lean over to Rex'aliha and whisper, "So Rex, you said you were a former member, I don't suppose you have any pull with them anymore do you? Like to maybe just ask politely that they go the fu** away?"
Arliden looks at Fjordix, "I agree, saving lives is more important at the moment," and he will begins hustling the children towards the safety of the keep.
Rex also will grab any children who are not grabbed with his strong, 19, dragon arms and will hightail it toward the keep.

Fjordix accepts the gold, "Nighthill, we need direction, you know your people, is there anyone else of note missing from inside the keep here?"
While he is giving us information Arliden would like to try and get a read on Nighthill, see if he is being sincere, if he's scared, etc.
(If possible I'd like to make an Insight check)
