About halfway through the first days journey, the weather takes a turn for the worse. The wind picks up and a cold rain starts to pour. It steadily worsens until after an hour it has turned into a full force gale. Progress is slowed to a halt, no other travelers are on the road.
You can continue through the storm, making 1/2 the distance and taking a point of exhaustion, or camp and wait for the storm to pass.
Alright, the party sets up a hasty shelter under some trees. And the storm lasts for the rest of the day until about noon the next day. Everyone consume a day of rations!
You've made it a half day's journey out of Neverwinter when you set out again.
That's easy to retcon: Lyngheid could have sent a message to Deselphine on the day you left Neverwinter. Deselphine says that she can be there in about 5 days time.
The rest of the day goes smoothly with the air chilling a bit as the day turns to evening and a fog starts forming in low lying areas. The Port Llast turnoff is visible in the distance. As you draw closer, you see a handful of women and children running down the road toward you.
Baeshra and Lyngheid notice some of them are limping and bandaged up, and then you all notice this once they get within hailing distance.
One of the women calls out: "Help! Please help! Giants are attacking the town!"
Baeshra moves to catch up quickly and get in her way, "Stop, rushing in has not been working out well. We move up quietly and attack from ambush, yes?"
Umbriel agrees. "If it's fire giants, we need to act quickly, though. Let me check to see if there's a reason they're attacking."He pulls out the Rod of the Vonindod and searches for adamantine objects nearby.

No pings from the rod!
The same woman calls out: "They attacked from a huge sailing ship and are now pillaging through the streets!"
Nyx, somewhat annoyed at her inability to find any leads, gives a little smile at the book she find before heading off back to the airship.
As the group nears Port Llast and is confronted by the fleeing woman, she readies her crossbow. "I agree Baeshra, we have not come off best in a few fights with these giants. And if the Rod is not picking up any adamantine, it's probably going to be a different kind of giant, not more of the Duke fire brethren."
Looking around is there any way they could bring the ship in close to the city without being seen or do they need to set down a good distance from the city?

The airship is in Everlund, on it's way to meet you in Luskan. You are walking on the High Road from Neverwinter to Luskan.
Lyngheid is listening but highly concious that each lost minute is another probable crushed child or parent.
" Well, then make us quieter my scaled friend!", Lyngheid puffed as she continued on, but slowing a little to let the sneakier folks get ahead.
Is everyone dashing to the city gates in the distance, or going stealthily? Edit: You are about a minute from the gates at a mad dash pace. Passive perception isn't picking up any danger on the way there.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Baeshra will nod to Lyngheid and cast pass without trace and rush with the others then move more quietly and listen carefully when they get to the gate.
The party races to the gates, and then slows down to take stock of the surroundings. The fog is limiting visibility beyond about 60 feet, but you don't detect any giants in the immediate vicinity. Baeshra, you see a pair of halflings sneaking towards the gate from just down the road, it seems like they are trying to make their escape.
Just a half block into the city from the gates you see signs of trouble. There are a few crumpled bodies in the streets, lamp posts knocked over and broken and empty casks of aleline the street as well.
Everyone make a Stealth Check (Nyx already did) and add 10 from Baeshra's spell.
( Sounds like our only option unless someone knows a friendly wizard in town. Lyngheid buys 5 days of rations.)

Lyngheid ventures that they should find shelter.

Someone roll a d20 for this day.

Baeshra would have suggested Lyngheid send a magical message to the airship crew to have them meet us in Luskan.

She begins charging down the road in the direction indicated.

With no immediate threats apparent, Umbriel will dash with Lyngheid to the gates, then be cautious about going in until he assesses the situation.
Nyx will dash towards the gates with the others, trying to take cover as best she can.
OCC: Sorry I even read that part about the airship.
