Balassar and Sally, there are very few horses for sale in the city at the moment. Almost all have been taken to support the war effort. After a day, you find two for sale - one is black, elderly but still strong-looking, and the other, plain brown, has an injury which the seller is confident will heal, but means they won't be able to do any work for at least another week. The black horse is selling for 120 gold, and the injured brown for 150 gold.
Alton, you get a map for 25 gold pieces. You can't say for sure how accurate it will be. A keg of ale costs 3 gold at the moment.
You can get non-precious stones, suitable for costume jewelry, in most any colour, though nothing larger. So it depends on what Balassar is trying to get.
Balassar just sighs looking over the horses "Well take this horse. Hope you're ready for some adventure." he says pointing to the older black one. He will also pick up 28 stones of varying color. After collecting the items he will just look at Sally "Anything else you want to do quickly before we head out?"
All of that took a full day, and you would have rested overnight at Balassar's home I assume? Would Sally and Celica have done that, or preferred to stay elsewhere?
Balassar, you get your horse, and your stones. The horse's name is Shoe, though you are free to change it if you wish?

"Yes, actually. I wonder if I can get any nice smelling oils around here..." She thinks to herself, looking about the shopping district for any apothecary establishments
Sally, the Pentamarket has many such stalls, or so you think having seen them, passed by from time to time, and smelled the wonderful smells of far away places as you passed. Now that you come to search with purpose, there don't seem to be as many as you remembered, or perhaps some of the less well established street vendors have moved on. You do manage to find one stall, with a bored teenage halfling who appears to be covering while their parents is taking a break. She looks at you with the forced politeness of someone who has two strikes already and doesn't want a third, and says, "Can I help you?". Various oils sit in jars and tubes on the wheeled stall, and the smell is pleasant, though a little overpowering and mixed up when you get too close.
Balassar just stands back with the horse and stones watching Sally purchase the oils. He was a little confused as to why she wanted them, but then again he was a dragonborn standing in the road with stones and a horse. He just remains quiet looking around as she conducts her purchase.
With your new purchases of varying utility, you come to the end of your shopping.
Celica and Sally, you find yourselves invited - somewhat firmly - to spend the night in the house of Balassar's family. His sister Surina apologises profusely for her brother's boorish and uncouth behaviour in failing to invite you, and his father Tarhun sits back and seems just to enjoy the performance and the company. You eat a large, well-prepared meal in this house attached to a smithy, and can see that Balassar's family, though from humble origins, seems to be prospering at the moment. You sleep in a comfortable, though not luxurious guest room, while Balassar and Alton are lodged in the main family room.
The morning comes. You head to the large city gate at the south of the city, as exit and entry through the other gates is restricted at this time of war. There seems to be little interest in checking who is leaving the city, and the guards barely acknowledge you as you walk on by. The morning is damp, with occasional drizzle and a cool, if not quite cold temperature. You know the road to take to Feltyr, and there are not so many travellers on the road that you can see, aside from Crownsguard and mercenary patrols which are frequent. They too pay you little heed.
So, you have a cart with two horses, and the four of you. Who's driving? Who's keeping watch? And what's everyone else doing? It will be a day of travel or more, though the roads are pretty good this close to the big city and you wouldn't normally expect trouble.
Balassar just spends the night talking with his family and enjoying the time before he has to leave again. As the morning comes Balassar just wakes up and begins to get the horses and the wagons ready after breakfast. On his way to get them he stops and picks up some flowers, as he drives the wagon around he looks at the rest of them “I gotta stop somewhere before we officially leave, but its on the way out.”
With that he just dismounts to hug his family goodbye “We’ll be back soon.” He says smiling as he just mounts the wagon grabbing the reins. When everyone else is in he will drive to a graveyard and just dismount “I’ll be back in a moment, just gotta say bye to someone.” he says with a faint smile. After a few minutes pass he returns and just takes his position again driving them out of the city.
Celica, excited to take on a new adventure with a new crew, will take the reins if no one else wants to do so. When Belassar makes his stop for his family and then the graveyard, she is clearly quite curious but does not ask any questions. She'd learn in due time.
"Now, it's been a little while since I've worked with horses, but rest assured I'm the best horseback rider in my family. How different could this be? These horses are just bigger. And tougher. It'll be fine! All aboard the Celica Express!"
After breakfast, Alton thanks Balassar's family for their hospitality and gathers us all his things before hopping into the back of the cart. He watches Balassar walk off into the graveyard, his curiosity peaked, but does not follow him. While waiting for his return, Alton pulls out a lute that looks worn and well traveled and begins to tune it. Once out of the city gates, he will strike up a traveling tune to help pass the miles. "Do ya need a break from modern livin'? Do ya long to shed your weary load? If your nerves are raw, and your brain is fried. Just grab a friend and take a ride. Together upon the open road..."
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Be excellent to each other, and roll for initiative dudes!
You start on your way. Balassar drives, Alton sings, Celia I'm guessing sits in the cart and observes Balassar's skill or lack therefore with the horses, and Sally keeps an eye on the surrounding countryside.
You start your journey, through the farmlands of the Marrow Valley. It feels like late autumn, with the weather remaining cool, even turning chilly as the morning goes on. You pass through a few villages on the road, and see relatively few people out and about.
Balassar, give me an Animal Handling or Land Vehicles proficiency check.
Alton, your song is catchy and your improvised tune sounds good to your ears, and to your companions' as well. You feel like this one might have potential, though you'll need to work on it a bit before it's ready for performance in the taverns of Zadash.
Balassar, you have some experience driving, and don't find it hard to control the horses; the newcomer seems to work well and be compatible, and there's some decent teamwork at play. You make solid progress.
Sally relaxes in the cart and lets her senses wander out like she has done so many times before on road trips. She let her eyes catch on to random movements, her ears cling on to the strangest sounds.
Perception: 15
Cant access my character sheet for some reason, says error 403, so I made a straight roll
Celica hums along with Alton's song and writes in her journal while the cart trundles along. At some point she catches Balassar's eye and shuts the book closed with a wink. "Hey, no peeking! Keep your eyes on the road!"
It's a +3 for Sally on Perception, for a total of 18. You keep excellent watch, and avoid being distracted by Alton's singing, Celica's humming or Balassar's driving.
After the bustle of the big city, it's very different being out in the countryside again. This is lush farmland, even wealthy, though at this time of year the fields are bare and the preparations for winter - and spring - are underway. You seem to have the road to yourselves for most of the morning, while around midday you start to come up against travellers headed to Zadash and no doubt keen to get there by nightfall. There's a pair of halfling travellers who might be woodsmen; there's a group of three caravans led by a dwarf with an unusually high-pitched voice and a foul mouth to go with it; there's a mercenary patrol, a single Crownsguard leading what might be a half dozen humans, half-elves and gnomes in dirty leather armour - this last group looks you up and down but doesn't take it any further. None of these groups seem keen to interact with you, and you pass by quietly along the road.
Evening comes, and the horses are beginning to tire. You have the option to continue on, and might reach your destination around midnight perhaps, but that would be a strange choice - you don't have any time pressure that you're aware of. So you stop, and make camp.
Give me a watch order please: first watch, second watch and third watch.
Everyone taking a turn on watch, give me a Perception check.
If you have any conversations that continue through the day or at camp, feel free to play them out. :)

As they set up camp, Alton draws a rough circle that is 10 feet in diameter around where they will be sleeping. "I can take the first watch. I've got something that will help with keeping us safe as we sleep, anything in this circle should be safe."
When Alton takes up his watch, he will sit in the center of the circle he drew taking 10 minutes to ritual cast Leomund’s Tiny Hut. He will have the interior dark and change the outside color to match the surrounding area so that the dome looks like a small hill.

After a bit of teasing with the halfling teenager, Sally acquires a pleasant smoky smelling oil. She is mostly quiet at Balassar's and the graveyard.
On the road, she keeps an eye on their surroundings, occasionally marveling at Celica's ability to not crash the cart.
