OOC: Can Mithrokk figure out which of the cave openings (based on his knowledge of such dwellings) is likely to be akin to a hall for receiving guests? He figures the party is here on official business and will have to announce themselves.
The well-trodden footpath leads to one of the cave openings (G9), if the party chooses to take that route. Otherwise, they'll have to climb to another cave entrance.
OOC: But Mithrokk is friendly to all types, nerds included 😊
OOC: Can Mithrokk figure out which of the cave openings (based on his knowledge of such dwellings) is likely to be akin to a hall for receiving guests? He figures the party is here on official business and will have to announce themselves. If not, he will want to suggest heading towards the most accessible cave opening (the one that leads to G9).
OOC: Probably the one with the well-trod footpath. Does the party head that way, out in the open for gnomish crossbows to pincushion and ... er ... nothing.
OOC: Lathalas can advise re: protocol, given his noble background. Can he suggest how and when the party should announce their presence?
OOC: Lathalas will also have a look around for any signs of trouble. Wondering if the orc war party got to the gnomes first. This place seems quiet ... too quiet.
OOC: You were told to show the seal on the scroll to the gnomes.
The party follows the footpath to the cave. Mist from the waterfall dampens the area, but traveling the footpath poses no difficulties for your group. As you enter the cave, you notice a ten-foot ledge to the south, manned by two gnomes holding loaded crossbows. One says some words in Gnomish, while the other shouts in Common, "Who goes there?
OOC: Lathalas's noble background gives him a certain poise and self-possession that is an advantage in social situations. In a case such as this, Lathalas believes it is best to have one of his underlings announce his presence.
OOC: Okay, I checked. None of youse speaks Gnomish. How do you respond to the challenge? Give me what you say, then make a Deception, Intimidation, or Persuasion check based on what you're up to. These gnomes look trigger-happy.

OOC: whoa! Lath can advise on protocol but has no desire to reveal his nobility.
OOC: Also ... do we have the names of the 1) wizards who hired us and 2) people we are to deliver the scrolls to? It would help us announce who we are and what we are doing here.
OOC: No signs of danger (apart from the gnomes pointing crossbows at us.) Orc aren't giving these gnomes any trouble?
"We have been sent here by the Honorable Townmaster Harbin Wester to get a package from you and deliver the same to him in Phandalin. The Townmaster has told us to seek an audience with King Gnerkli and King Korboz."
"We also are here to deliver this..(Rastaris takes out the sealed scroll)... to you. This comes from Silverymoon and is of great importance."
Rastaris shows the sealed scroll to the guards.
"Please let us enter Gnomengarde." (Rastaris says this with head bowed)
Both gnomes aim their crossbows at Rastaris, the obvious deceit in his words putting them on edge.
OOC - Anyone else want to try?
OOC - You were hired by agents of the wizards while in Silverymoon. They didn't identify themselves to you. You're supposed to show the seal on the scrolls.
OOC: Hope all is well at home.

OOC: Thanks for the map!
Farnakees is disappointed.. Hmmm.... Caves, no doors, no chance to get a hang of that "Leeeroy Jerkins" thing...
OOC: Hope everything is good.
To the DM: So if we follow the path we arrive at the cave G9.
Rastaris sees the caves and takes a deep breath. His experiences in caves have not been good.
"Shall we stay on the path?"
"It looks like it leads to that cave (G9)."
"Since there is a path, this must be where visitors usually pass."
The well-trodden footpath leads to one of the cave openings (G9), if the party chooses to take that route. Otherwise, they'll have to climb to another cave entrance.
"Mithrokk, we will need to rely on you because of the friendship between the dwarves and gnomes. You are familiar with their ways."
To the Party: If there are no objections - let's pass the road (in this case the path) most traveled by.
OOC - What ancient friendship between dwarves and gnomes? Dwarves are jocks and gnomes are the nerds they give daily wedgies too.
OOC: But Mithrokk is friendly to all types, nerds included 😊

OOC: Farnakees chuckles at the double entendres
Farnakees asks Mithrokk: "Will you be able to wedgie us in?"
OOC: Probably the one with the well-trod footpath. Does the party head that way, out in the open for gnomish crossbows to pincushion and ... er ... nothing.
Since Mithrokk seems to know the way - marching order is
Mithrokk
Lathalas
Alianna
Rastaris
Farnakees
To the DM: Did the wizards tell us who we are delivering the scroll to?

Persuasion Check : 4
OOC: Well, time for plan B

"Behold!" Farnakees bellows. "The seal on the scroll!!!! Show then, Rastaris...." Intimidation 17 + 2 = 3
