Rufus chimes in, "A city of dark elves. A city." Rufus allows his statement to sink in before he continues. "I believe we should let this one go. We are not able to resolve this issue."
"We should at least warn the town here that they are up against Shaërn Kerithrion - the council of the Dark Elven city. I wonder why would they need the ore and if they are about to start the new war..."
"We don't know that we can't handle it Rufus. You're assuming that it's the whole city and not just a small band making this trouble. We should find out more before we make a decision."

(( Alrighty, your currently just outside Tegris, which is too small to appear on the map but is basically on the northern bank just before the fork in the river heading east from Chalice. So theres a fair distance from Darkwood...but not quite enough for comfort...though you know that Stonebridge has occasionally bouts of kidnapping when the Dark Elves need more dwarf slaves for the silver mines beneath Dark Wood....but this is far enough out that perhaps its not the city itself...))
“I think we need more information before we return to tell anyone anything.” Brocc says with a shrug. “Let us continue, but maybe with a bit more care and respect for those we are hunting.”
"There would be no way to tell where the trail leads if we go to high ground." Brocc points out. "We could easily lose the tracks, and have to circle back to here, spending much more time in this area than we might wish." He nods to the path ahead. "Let us just be as careful as we can manage..." He says, then would be ready to move ahead. He casts guidance on whomever is scouting ahead for them.
Lindales nose led the way definetely picking up elven and canine scents now, along with fungus....and...beetles?
The gully narrowed even more and became a rocky cleft deep into a hillside, as the group approached they could hear voices from within and a light clink of chain moving from somewhere in the darkness ahead of them...
Brocc holds up a hand, calling a halt. He waves the grup back from the darkenss ahead, to a point where they can talk without drawing attention. "Seems we found the hideout..." He says in a soft voice. "Do we go straight in, use magic, of some kind, to disguise us, or do something else?"
"I don't think we should run in without knowing more..." Hatch said, looking around. "Perhaps we should draw them out to us? If we could set a few simple traps, get our more range and magic combatants up in the trees with high ground..." Hatch was looking around. "Assuming that this is their hideout then they shouldn't be in a hurry. If we work just a little down range quietly we can dig some small hole traps, sharpen some wooden spikes, maybe use a rope to make some snare traps. Just keep a lookout so they don't find us. But when we're ready we need a way to draw them to us."
(I have no clue how trap making and such plans work in D&D so forgive me if this is all unworkable or gamebreaking in any way)
Lindale returned in her half-elven form and joined discussion: "We are not going without checking first. Remember how it ended up in last cave? There were strange smells along the tracks - I'll check it out and will be right back."
This time it was a Giant Wolf Spider - nature blessed the creatures with so many perks, one would wonder why other creature were created at all. She climbed to the ceiling of the cave and carefully moved inside.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hatch and the others move back to make plans.
( Attempts to build traps will be Survival checks...theres not much in the way of materials here really.)

Lindale crept along the ceiling of the cave entrance....she moved in a few metres and looked around her multiple eyes piercing the darkness.
The cave opened up and she saw two cloaked and hooded lithe figures leaning against the wall watching the entrance, on long chains fixed to the wall were two savage beasts, bigger than a wolf, with powerful limbs, razor-sharp metallic teeth, and shiny pointed scales, which rise up like hackles when they get angry.
Careful and silent like a shadow Lindale moves deeper, still clinging to the ceiling.
Within the cave
Lindale crept through the cave and down a sloping tunnel that plunged into the earth, ahead she could hear whispering voices and she saw about half a dozen gray skinned elves with bright green eyes dressed in soft dark cloaks and festooned with silver decorations. They were loading buckets of silver ore into containers strapped to the side of a gigantic stag beetle.
Lindale saw enough. Doing her best to stay quiet and unnoticeable, she turned around and (still by the ceiling, of course) run back to the group. What she saw could not be conveyed in signs, so, she dropped her spider form and explaind everything in words - the beasts, the elves, the loading. "No doubts, the tunnel is going further, may be straight to the city. Probably, if we wait until they are done loading, we can follow. Though, they could keep those beasts at the entrance always on alert."
"And why would we wish to follow them?" Brocc asked with a frown. "We would be only a few against the entire city." He glances to the others. "We might be able to take out these inside now, but will that do much for the long-term raiding of the miners?" He sighs. "I think this is above our head, we are not going to make much difference attacking a raiding party if the entire city is behind them..."

"So, onwards March?" Hatch asked, tiring of waiting.
Lindale nodded but before everyone moved, transformed into a wolf again, adding sense of smell to her tracking abilities.

None of them seem to have noticed her yet.
