Rinzak nods, thinking to himself for a moment as he gently strokes his mustache, however his pondering is cut short as soon as the words Mind Flayer are said. The Githrezai's head snaps around to lock on to Fen, approaching Fen slowly with a complex look in his eyes. As he is about to speak however, the elf clarifies that he only saw the aftermath, giving a sarcastic scoff and shaking his head as he says quietly "Of course....it was foolish to get so worked up. The few who witness and survive a Mind Flayer attack are driven to madness or worse." Turning his attention back to Volo, a bit intrigued that he had apparently wrote guides of some sort.
Rinzak inhales sharply at the different mispronunciation, but just exhales slowly and mutters to himself in his language for a moment before clearing his throat "It is no bother. I have only been on the Prime Material plane for three months." After Volo concludes his tale, since Rinzak knows nothing of the man besides this tale and what the odd elf has claimed, he asks "Have you provided an accomplishment for your people worthy of recognition?" No judgement in his voice, just a question as to measure how much this person should be respected among humans.
"Well, besides my multiple adventurer's guides, I can say that I helped do a few other important things," He explains, "I don't mean to brag, but I did play a role in reviving the goddess of magic. I've also journeyed through nearly every realm of the world, through the Nine Hells, and befriended many across the nations."

Hecate's interest is caught by one of Volos comments in particular.
"You say you were in the process of writing a book on ghosts? You wouldn't happen to have any notes with you, I suppose?"
"Yes, I was writing a book." He says, with his pointer finger to his temple, "'Volo's Guide to Specters and Spirits' too bad that I never got the loan. Too bad. It's fine, though, I've moved onto other projects."
He seems wrapped up in the memory of it so much that he forgets your question.

Fen responds to Carlin "I was actually tied up by bandits midway between here and the Gate when Mindflayers attacked the city, though that is a story for another time [OOC, the former happened as part of campaign history, the latter as part of rolled backstory, so it is not just me trying to make my backstory prematurely epic]. I have seen the destruction they left throughout the Gate first hand when I've been back to visit though."
Fen also listens in for details of the ghoststory/quest that Volo is sharing.
(Yes, Baldur's Gate was attacked by Mind Flayers just over a year ago.)

((The shapeshifter feature of changelings doesn’t apply to clothes and gear. I want to see if Ramath noticed that the talkative half-elf girl and Fen here are wearing the exact same thing. I updated the spoiler.))
Ventheris gives a slight smile, "You should check the Mere of Dead Men up north of here. Tales of many ghosts up there if you can get through the undead to get near the center... though I may have met one near the edge... its still a little unclear to me..."
Rinzak lifts an eyebrow at the claim of having visited multiple worlds "Then of course you would know the capital of the Githzerai which I hail from then?" The Githzerai had often got used to hearing many of those on the Prime Material plane boasting of accomplishments. To the point it was rather difficult at times to tell the truth from a lie, so something this prominent should be easy for one who has traveled the planes. There was almost a twinkle of hope in Rinzak's eye as he awaited the answer, truly wishing to have finally met someone of true merit on this plane.
(OOC: As a player I know Volo would know, but Rinzak doesn't. And if you as the DM don't know it's in my backstory thingy ;P)
”Life after death... that is strange indeed,” Zook says in response to Carlin’s statement. “It is perhaps one of the greatest mysteries, at least it is to my very small mind. I cannot for the life of me understand what kind of power can return life, or partial life, as it were, to someone who has passed from this world. I will admit that the whole subject gives me the willies. I am a curious fellow, but I think that I would be very unnerved to see a ghost with my own eyes. Honestly, it’s something I would really rather avoid, if I can help it.”
"Master Volo, please, if you have a good ghost story, then by all means tell it! My fear of ghosts would in no way deter me from wanting to hear about them and perhaps learn a little more about how and why they exist."

Ramath looks at Fen’s current appearance.
I assume it would be a contest of deception vs perception: 13
If that passes:
Ramath absent-mindedly points to Fen and says “Fen and Nef same.”
If that doesn’t pass, you can decide what he notices.
Only for IorithMagnus:
What are you looking for, exactly?

No probs, roll was just a response to above.
"I have made it my life's work." Hecate says simply. " Though, of course, I am only interested in the true ones."
Ventheris gives a slight smile, "You should check the Mere of Dead Men up north of here. Tales of many ghosts up there if you can get through the undead to get near the center... though I may have met one near the edge... its still a little unclear to me..."
"I find it rather interesting that people can live on even after death," Carlin says, "It seems... strange."
Elra Skylash - Human Cleric | Vanzaren Tanidoni - Half Elf Wizard
Mindartis Liadon - Eladrin Barbarian | Naivara Siannodel - Half Elf Ranger
Arrila Evenwood - Half Elf Paladin | Callaphe of Setessa - Human Rogue
Katernin Nemetsk - Aasimar Cleric | Melody - Tiefling Bard
Hecate pulls out her dog-eared notebook and scribbles something down. "The Mere of Dead Men... My thanks, friend."
