Does Ithelion know if, say, throwing a rock or dead rat on it will set it off?
You don’t know what the trigger is. You know glyphs have a maximum range of about 10 feet but it’s a guess on what activates it, whether touch, proximity, or something else.
Ithelion, you go towards the northside door of this long passage, and as you move to open it, Krom casts Thaumaturgy. Suddenly, the door starts swinging open and shut wildly - it is not locked. You peer into the room between it opening and shutting wildly, and you are able to see 1 and 6skeletons coming to un-life.
Roll initiative!

Ithelion lets out a startled scream but moves into the doorway, rotates slightly to the left and casts Burning Hands, she then gives int to her instinct, and flees back down the corridor towards Krom and the rest of the group, screaming "Skeletons, lots of them...and something else!"
She moves to the doorway and faces in a direction to maximize her targets (15' cone), then flees. (( Archers don't get AOO I hope?!?? ))
Burning Hands Damage 11 (DEX Save 13 for half damage)
Ithelion, as you spread your hands and finish casting your spell, you don't notice any bows on the skeletons you saw and you only saw skeletons. A cone-shape of burning radiates forth and catches S2, S3, S4, S5, and S7. Dex saves: S2 - 4S3 - 16S4 - 3S5 - 3S7 - 17.
You move back to Krom and the others. Daemyar is still near the dead rat he killed. Garnet, you're up!

Garnet, it is not a ranged spell. It enacts on the first melee hit on a creature. You can do this if you want but you’ll have to wade into the room, choose a target, and smite it.
(hmm... yeah that sounds like a bad idea can I do something else instead?)
Of course. You can still cast it but it won’t activate until you hit someone. It’s a bonus action as well, so you still have your movement and regular action.

@garnet - you move to just within reach of the skeleton (just below S7). unfortunately, your swing doesn't have the impact you wanted and the skeleton's armor deflects your blow - a miss!
S3 - moves now towards Garnet, who has entered the small room. It will shamble over and in doing so, takes 1 fire damage from ithelion's earlier blast, and swing its shortsword at the genasi: Attack: 13Damage: 8. **a miss on the genasi!**
Daemyar, you're up! Followed by Skeletons 1,6, and 7.
Daemyar will try to hide behind the wall next to the door before popping out just long enough to fire an arrow at Skeleton 4

@daemyar - the skeleton doesn't notice you so sneak attack applies here this time, but now the skeletons know you're here. You pop off an arrow attack at S4 - already swaying a bit from Ithelion's spell - and propels it into death once more.
S1 moves towards Garnet but can't really get an attack on her, so it goes through the door and attacks Daemyar with its short sword. Garnet- however, if you want you can take an attack of opportunity to stab at it. Attack:11Damage:6 ***a hit on the hobgoblin!***
S6 and S7 will both attack Garnet, since they are right in front of them. Moaning in agony, the will both swing their short swords at her. S6: Attack: 18Damage:3S7: Attack:7Damage:5 ***both attacks miss Garnet!***
